About This Game

What happens when DLC practices go too far? An indie developer makes a game that mocks the industry and its foibles, that's what! Defeat the bad guy, save the world and get the girl! But first you'll need to find coins to buy DLC to enable animation, sound and even pausing.

Thankfully this is just satire and all the DLC is purchased with in-game coins. But consider it a cautionary tale for the future...

Key Features:

  • Two full length campaigns: the original award-winning "DLC Quest", and the brand new "Live Freemium or Die"
  • Platforming action! Coins to collect, a princess to save, a bad guy (or two) to defeat. You like that stuff, right?
  • Over 30 different DLC packs, each providing quiet introspection on the state of the gaming industry
  • Over 20 achievements to earn and make you feel reasonably satisfied with yourself
  • Online leaderboards

DLC Quest is a video game that makes fun of microtransactions.

Like this review? Buy the full version to access the reviewer's commentary, fully revealing his thoughts on the game! $59.99.

That joke aside, DLC Quest truly is a game which satirizes the practice of games using downloadable content to rake in the Benjamins, so to speak. Now, if you're wondering, no, this game does not actually use downloadable content in it that requires you to actually pay real life, "earned from your job" money. That would be redundant.

No, rather, DLC Quest has you collect in-game coins to purchase DLC that is required to progress in the game. Some of the "DLC" you collect is the ability to walk in a certain direction, and another one goes as far as to require you to buy it if you want to double-jump. Along your journey to buy them all, you'll encounter several video game references as you stride across this land of imaginary paywalls. It is a hilarious satire game, but as it stands, if you do not get or like the humor, it is pretty much not worth your money if a satire based on the practices of downloadable content are not up to your liking.

But if you are intrigued, great! It is not anything too revolutionary gameplay wise, but hopefully it will give you quite the chuckle then and there, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is invested in the video game community or industry.

A great and charming game that decides to question the norm and make fun of the concept of DLC. The game throws all sorts of refrences and in-jokes at you, just because it feels like it. Unique characters and simple gameplay come together in this satirical indie platformer.
9/10, simply Awe-Full.

A good social commentary on the state of video games these days, whilst also providing comedy and decent gameplay that makes you want to collect all the coins and dlc packs.

Kinda regret buying this one, just watch someone else play it on YouTube or something
its a basic platformer outside of the whole DLC thing and it shows very fast. Not fun after that, gameplay really brings this down.

So this game is great, it has humor in making fun of some of the ridiculus dlc released like skyrim horse armor XD and it's short but worth your money (and Ben thx for the congrats [autoclickers are awsome])

Played on 360 and PC. Both times were fun.
If you enjoy satire and a simple run and jump platformer give this game a shot.
Only takes about 2 hours to complete both campaigns.

I like to thank my friend Rain for giving me the opportunity to play this game.
Thank you my friend ;)

Beside that, game is pretty cool and interesting with good point and satirical comment on todays situation in gaming industry when comes to DLCs, Season Passes, Microtransactions, Gated content and all other deviant publisher machinations which exploit our gamers passion and love for games! This is all represented with solid and intelligent humor throughout the game.

Recommended 7/10 ;)

DLC Quest

"To read this review you need to buy the 'Review-DLC' (haha)" Hm, well... not funny, okay.

Wow, this game is really good. A must-have for satire-lovers. It describes the DLC-ecstasy of many game-publishers (Huhu EA *wave*) in a funny way. Just awesome. Just cause. 3. What? Nah, nevermind. Just BUY THIS GAME!!1!

Greetings...
the monster under YOUR bed,
Tim

I would recommend this game to any gamer who's willing to laugh at the gaming industry and then themselves for spending their time playing this game! Over all a very well contained game that does it's job perfectly, I found myself giggling all the way through at every single cliche in the book. Only down side is i can't believe my Horse betrayed me! 9/10 for what it is. A joke. And a good one at that.

It's pretty amusing, the gameplay is somewhat akin to older flash games, in a satisfying way. It's a good decompress game with some mild replay factor. i think the writing and jokes are pretty good for the most part, was worth the money for me.
