About This Game

What happens when DLC practices go too far? An indie developer makes a game that mocks the industry and its foibles, that's what! Defeat the bad guy, save the world and get the girl! But first you'll need to find coins to buy DLC to enable animation, sound and even pausing.

Thankfully this is just satire and all the DLC is purchased with in-game coins. But consider it a cautionary tale for the future...

Key Features:

  • Two full length campaigns: the original award-winning "DLC Quest", and the brand new "Live Freemium or Die"
  • Platforming action! Coins to collect, a princess to save, a bad guy (or two) to defeat. You like that stuff, right?
  • Over 30 different DLC packs, each providing quiet introspection on the state of the gaming industry
  • Over 20 achievements to earn and make you feel reasonably satisfied with yourself
  • Online leaderboards

It's a real nice satire and it's such a surprise to see, what you do in DLC Quest will go over to Live Freemium Or Die.

Welcome to a game that practically describes nowaday's shooters, (COUGH, COUGH INTENSIFIES) Call Of Duty (COUGHS UP LUNG). I think this game makes the buyer learn a lesson about DLC. A lesson just as valueable as a pack of Supply Drops for only $2.99 UDS! It's a fun little game. I think personally, it should be cheaper for the game length, but the lesson it teaches is worth it.

A decent platformer made great by the comedic tone and characters. Pretty short, definitely possible to speedrun, but it's pretty cheap, so, definitely worth your time and money, as it doesn't take much of either

A silly little game about how DLC costs for everything..from moving to jumping in this game. This whole game is a satire about such things in real life..

It is really short game, but fun. I recommend just to have fun with it. Also, for the achievements, this game is quite easy to get them...

Wasn't sure what to expect from a $3 game, but I'm glad I got it. It's just a fun little time-waster with a silly storyline jabbing at the insanity DLC has become in gaming. Just playing through will only take anywhere from a half an hour to an hour depending on how adament you are on collecting ALL the DLC of just one campaign; you know, get everyone in lingerie, kill some zombies, kill a meme--sorry, "comedian". Whatever floats your boat.

Point is, it's fun and I think most people would enjoy it.

A bizarre and quirky little game that makes fun of the dlc fiasco that seems to plague modern gaming. It is a fun 2D platformer with some some highly ironic jokes that might not appeal to everyone, and the actual gameplay is quite repetitive and gets boring quickly. But for the small price tag, and an hour and a half or so of enjoyment, I would still recommend this game.

I love this little game - this smartass little shiv pointed at greedy and broken game publishing.

The game is a fairly simple, rather short little platformer in which you bounce around and gather in-game coins to unlock all of the features and, indeed, downloadable content. (If it need be said - no, you don't have to pay any actual money for any actual DLC.)
The game satirizes many of the general, and some specific (horse armor?), practices arising with this god-awful trend of microtransactions and selling games in bits and pieces.

Every last note and facet of this game is aimed to skewer something about the general current state of video games. My favorite is one of the first DLC you need to unlock - the ability to move to the left. You'll need coins to go about getting the game some animation. One of the "Awardments" wags a finger at your perhaps willingness to lower yourself to anything for a worthless and meaningless digital trinket/pat on the back. The list goes on, but I'd be ruining more funny.

Concerning actual gameplay, there are some simple obstacles and progression milestones that wall you off from areas which, on top of the central mechanic of having to unlock every ability you need to move on, lend the faintest element of a metroidvania play, here. It's nonetheless a light game to tackle, and is not generally difficult. A comfortably paced playthrough, looking for all the coins, and seeking out "Awardments", might run you about two hours.

Graphics and sound are suitably lo-fi, as can be seen.

Obviously, the real joy of playing comes in relishing the developers' thorough distaste for the bad trends and arguably destructive business methods plaguing video games.
It's flippant, witty, surprisingly funny, and comes with only very few moments of regrettable reference or juvenile 'internet humor'. It's also a lot of fun, it's thoroughly creative, and it has a real, smartly delivered point.

Oh, the luxury about which we get to so fervently complain.

It was a fun little game while it lasted, gameplay was very sarcastic and full of jokes. 9/10 would play again.

>stroll into my local GameStop
>looking to pick up a copy of DLC Quest
>grab the game and take it to the charming maiden at the register
>"Pardon me, milady...but could you ring me up? A shame I don't have your number or I'd ring you up instead..."
>she giggles and takes the game, blushing as her fingers brush mine due to my fingerless gloves
>her eyes widen as she reads the game's title
>"Wow, I've never seen anyone buy this before! You must have special taste!"
>I smile and ready a witty response when suddenly a voice rings out from behind
>"Hahaha look at what this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is buying! That's not Call of Duty! What a piece of ♥♥♥♥!"
>I quickly turn around, my cloak billowing behind me, to discern the source of the rude outburst
>generic dudebro caricature with a sports team cap and "the guy that beat you up that one time behind the school in early October" shirt is standing there guffawing
>"Excuse me sir...you may disparage my person if you wish, but it is untoward to swear in front of a lady."
>"♥♥♥♥ you ♥♥♥♥♥♥!"
>I smile quietly and tip my fedora low across my eyes, concealing them
>"As you wish..."
>I quickly swing my cane into his kneecap before he can react
>he bellows and charges forward
>I expertly sidestep him and the cashier screams as he crashes into the counter
>I draw my sword-cane and mutter a quiet oath as I drive it deep into his back
>"...requiescat in pace..."
>As I clean my blade the girl walks out from behind the counter, twirling her hair with her fingers
>"So...maybe you'd like to come over to my place to play that game sometime...?
>"No thanks, milady, it's single player only. Besides..."
>I sheath my sword
>"You're not my type."
>skate away on my Heelys
