Update 3.1 RC6 & Shootmania Platform

In this update for 3.1 RC6 update, we have some changes:

- Matchmaking is having 3 major updates: Map vote, rematch and progressive amount of players. If the two first are obvious, the last is about launching a match of Battle or Siege as soon as there is 4 people on the lobby and send the new people arriving on the lobby quickly to complete the match. It's made also for custom modes that would like to host matchmaking while having a big number of member per team. The detailed changelog for the game modes scripts is available here or here.

- Ladders of Storm, Elite and Siege will have some change of speed and number of players that can be on top. If it was possible to have 100 Echelon 9 on the Monday morning, it will now be only 20. So, it means that players will lose much more LPs on Monday first, and then on each match lost since you lose an amount that is related to how much points can be won in average in a match. In consequences, you will also see 200 players in Echelon 8 instead of 10000 and etc. Keep in mind that when you lose LPs on Monday morning, you are losing no rank at all: it's just a way to normalize the number of LPs and the maximum. Otherwise, the maximum would always climb and require to change the amount of LP you win accordingly.

- Gameplay of Elite is now going to use the new one, with mainly the stamina management and walljump power as main changes. I know it can disturb the incredibly high level of skill we can see nowadays, but now that the EPL finals are done and that the ESWC is announced, I would like to take the opportunity to make the same gameplay with the others modes, such as Battle or Siege, that they are using it since the previous releases.

- The "link" plug-in. This plug ins are like the buddy or settings plug in of the system bar. The "link" plug-in is a way to quick access to the links of a title pack (home <=> manialink, news <=> maniaflash, facebook page) etc. It will be a way to also provide an easy way to share the title; and more especially now that it's in demo. We may do a "help" plug in to provide "information, tips and others" but later. Maniaplanet is designed as a 2.0 system, and this link plug-in is dedicated to it. To configure it, it's the same links than in the store of today.

- Players are not allowed anymore to add their own Bink videos to Maniaplanet. And we have added limitations to prevent this. Meanwhile, we are going to upgrade the support of WebM as a powerful replacement, including the ability to encode directly or have a better compression ratio/picture quality. We have spent just some days on this new integration and it will take us some more to bring some more feature to this support. However, we have other priorities at the moment and it can take a while. I am sorry for this happening and be sure we would have like to be otherwise.

- The importer is updated and with it, the import of fonts is activated. The documentation is also available.

- Arrow rollback. In fact, the arrow we look for is more a long range, big blow radius weapon. It has been used like a short range splash bomb. I think that these changes are more for Power Up! and that we better deliver a good splash bomb in addition to fix the arrow. Arrow would need to have more ammunition by default would we like to make "then rain of arrows effect" so we will see this later. Sorry for the ones that found the new arrow better and for the ones who lack the previous one since the changes.

- The source of Shootmania Platform are being released as a sample. The mode will also be free until the end of September, with unlimited demo time and number of maps. The goal is to welcome players that would like just to test without fighting. A mini site and video has been done to more easily share the super setup of it.

- The custom weapon will have a closer way to work as default ones: waterproof by default, shooter points, sounds, notices, +1 with RemovePlayerArmor (~ same as AddPlayerArmor) and manage a Custom volume.

- Item Editor has some fixes when launched from the map editor. And the PropertyList : fix absolute/relative location of data

- The MediaTracker options for crosshair/ghost names; keep playing on respawn, tiggers that can overlap (but trigger only one clip) and the free camera save position \o/

ShootMania Storm is a pretty good game. It's different from most modern shooter, because it's kinda skillbased. The problem is, that the servers are very empty. In combination with the missing ranking-system, most games end in nothing else then trying to accomplish an objectiv alone, while your teammates have no clue what to do, and just try to shoot the enemy, and them forgetting, that there's a mission to do.
I'd say, it's worth the try, even if you only try the demo. But don't expect to find a game, that you want to play too long.

If you want a very basic arena shooter, ShootMania Storm is for you. Literally, you only have one weapon tops and your reflexes to protect you. The modding is also a nice touch. It's very simple to do, allowing you to create arenas in minutes. It's not the most complex arena shooter, but if you don't want to think when you're shooting, this is for you. Just note that the servers are a bit empty at the moment, but it's fun nonetheless.

ShootMania Storm is a fun, yet small version of Halo, but i would not get this game to play online only. If you can, get it for you and a friend as a gift for the holiday season.

Okay but this is up there with the most underrated games I know of. A solid FPS with simple yet unique gameplay mechanics that don't come off as gimmicky at all. Slides, grappling hooks, jump pads, teleporters, and perhaps best of all, it's community fuelled thanks to the fantastic easy-as-hell-to-use built-in map editor.

There's also no gore what so ever, it feels a lot like a sci-fi laser-tag game in that "killing" your opponent gracefully teleports them back to the finish rather than tearing them apart or dropping them to the floor. It feels very much like a sport or tournament and that's fairly refreshing to be honest!

Recommend this game to lovers of classic FPS games like Quake or Unreal Tournament, those who love to design maps and environments, or those who feel like they need something different in the FPS genre.

Great game! It made it to one of my favorites.

I really like this fast-paced shooter.
It's very simple and does not have many weapons (only 2 basic ones), but exactly this is what makes this game so interesting.
You know how everything works after a very short time and you may find it very hard. The real fun starts if you get better and better with all the mechanics though.
You can see yourself progessing and you always learn new ways on how to do something.
On top of that the game delivers many different game modes (many are custom designed) which provide enough variety.

The only negative thing to say is that there are not so many people playing this game.
So I'll hope you gonna join the community.
If you played quake or a similar game before you probably gonna like it ^^

Good game. Only thing it needs is to have more players... FROM A PLACE WHERE I CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY SAY!
That's the only fault. But otherwise, there is good gameplay, classic shootouts, and neat arenas. Keep up the good work!

A great game that ivoles high speed (not so much the bullets) shoot 'er' up action packed jump around game that constantly makes you want to get revenge and be top on the leaderboards. if you are one of those people that keeps running out of games to play (like me) this is the game for you! the menu may take a hour or 2 to understand though... BUT THATS FINE!

Shootmania Storm is a solid and very polished shooter which has been let down by screwy marketing and a screwy menu interface.

While the menu interface has been somewhat improved I feel it could still be simplified in regards to howa player can easily tell which servers are actually populated. This should be able to be done on a single screen instead of having to switch between gametypes.

As for the gameplay itself the game is superb. Simple fast twitch based combat with a lot of depth in regards to reading your oppenent, staying alert and you own movement. It takes practice.

The main weapon feels a lot like the disc-launcher from the Tribes series or the rocket launcher from Quake.

Seeing it on sale for 5 bucks is great to see and I hope a lot of people buy it and populate the servers.

This game was absolutely amazing, but once it was realeased.. nobody plays it.
It's a ghost town, and I had to ask for a refund.
There were nobody playing on the American servers, only EU.

this was a great game but now it seems to have just died.

Great gameplay! Reason I stopped playing is that not many American's play. I end up playign with 200 ping foreigners, which isn't very appealing.
Game only has multiplayer so the community is a big deal. To large European community, I understand why it should be 20$.
If these developers knew anything about how a game gets marketed in America, (they did a good job for Europeans) it could've gone further in the American scene.

Only worth when on sale.

This is what Tron battles would look like if they were set in an earth-like environment. The game is visually appealing, perfectly balanced towards a competitive play.
Nadeo has been doing fixes, visual updates, client renewal since beta, but the game never matched the popularity they were expecting. Players give different explanations and interpretations for it.
Don't expect to jump into a massively multiplayer FPS. The community is not that big. But it is definitely worth giving it a try if you enjoyed quake-like game.
