Review: Dragon's Prophet

-Being able to tame a dragon and fight along side it is amazing.
-The combat system in this game is pretty good.
-The graphics are okay
-The comunity is generally pretty chill
-Skills are unique
-Large amount of dragon types within the world
-Leveling isn't overly difficult if you do all your sidequests, but you will need to grind for some of them
-Character customization is pretty decent if not at times confusing
-You can buy almost anything from the market place without having to actually pay if you play enough

-The pvp is not as good as it should be
-If you're not in a large guild good luck getting a party together for raid dungeons.
-There isnt much of a player base
-There's bugs galore for a lot of things but they get fixed within the next patch.
-Reskinned models everywhere.
-You need a team eventually

Overall, this game is one of the better ones ive played even with this list of cons, its still fun.
I'd give it a 8/10

I'm not really sure whether to recommend this game or not. It feels like it'll be very good - once it's finished. However, as it stands now, it's not great. The combat has a combo system, but it's hard to understand and devolves into "click both mouse buttons repeatedly". And this may just be me, but the production quality feels horrible, from the jerky animations to the cutscenes that look like they were made in Windows Movie Maker ( The dragon-taming is fun, if rage-inducing, and there are a lot of dragons out there. Exploration feels a bit weird, as even though you can fly with most dragons, the world is rather 2D and there's not much you can find up above the ground. The storyline feels pretty good, though I've never been a good judge of that kind of thing. All in all, get it if you don't need to worry about hard drive space, play it, and see if you like it. Otherwise, wait for a few more updates.

This game has a unique style of game play that actually lets you interact with the dragons to where you can tame them. Also they allow you to hatch new dragons from eggs you can find throughout the world and buy from the market.

Don't get me wrong. I don't hate Dragon's Prophet, in fact, I like almost everything about this game. There are tons of dragons, how could I not like it? The character creation is fantastic, graphic are okay, and the fighting is pretty dang cool.
The only real problem I have with this game is that it is difficult to play without spending Station Cash (which I've assumed is real money). It is still a fun game, but in my opinion, needing to spend money for so many little things (in a free to play game) really kills something essential in Dragon's Prophet. It was difficult to really lose myself in the game with the constant reminder that they wanted me to spend money. If you're willing to pay for it though then maybe you'll like the game more than I did.

Not recommending this game for one sole reason. That being that I love this game but it IS Pay to play.

Sure, you can download, and play, but the limitations you are presented with right off the installation will cause you to spend more cash than a full blown AAA RPG, because those limitations are painful. You must buy bag slots, bank slots, even pet slots. You require items bought from the ingame store to adjust your pet's skills or deal with being screwed by RNG. The store bought cosmetic items give stat bonuses aswell, so they are not strictly cosmetic. You can buy dragons and pretty much everything you need from the ingame store if you're willing to throw down cash. Best of all? None of it is account wide. It is all restricted to the character you bought these things with, so if you wish to start a new character, be prepared to spend just as much cash as you did the other.

This game has some great elements as far as gameplay goes. The combat play is something I've been looking for in an mmorpg but having a difficult time finding, and that just makes me truly upset how cash demanding this game is. I would much prefer a monthly fee and have all those store bought features already unlocked.

although there are a lot of problems with this game, my main one being if you spend money on a character to unlock things that should be bought with in game currency it only applies to ONE character, i have put over 100 hours in on this game and will put hundreds more into it. 8/10.

This is a pretty terribly-done "free-to-play", with paywalls shoved in your face at every turn shortly after you finish the starting missions. If you want a better experience playing this game, try the European version. Most of the microtransactions are still there, but they're not as noticeable and they certainly don't constantly pressure you to buy the cash shop currency like this rendition does.

Also there's none of the stupidly-cringey "#SuperMetal" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the Euro version.

This game is a big step foward for dragon games. however the rest of the game is not to interesting. Ive played a decent amount of mmos and i can say that this one is overly simple and yet confusing at the same time. tracking where quests are is a pain and the classes are generic and boring. but like I said the capturing and riding dragons is awesome. im mixed on this game and cant speak for other people so your best bet is to try your self!

The following are my personal impressions of the game Dragon's Prophet.

I'll start with eye candy. There's plenty of it. The wonderful character models are a cross between TERA and GW2 with tons of customization options. NPCs vary in style enough so that you really don't see the same person with a different name/skin/outfit on every corner. The dragons vary as much as the character models! You've got dragons that crawl, stride, fly, swim...and it's fun trying to catch the rares if not frustrating and terribly time consuming. Environments are colorful and vast and detailed enough that they don't seem like an afterthought. You know, as if all the resources went into making the players and dragons and nothing went into the world in which said players would interact in. Framerates seem solid and you can get comparable visuals on a nvidia 460m and a 680GTX.

Gameplay follows the ever popular action style as seen in TERA and NWN. No TAB targeting here. It's aim your in-game avatar at a mob and press the attack to...well, inflict harm on said mob. While you can simple hack-n-slash, the combination system is worth learning. Combat is easy to learn making this game so easy a caveman could play it. Character leveling is not a grindfest (at first). QUests are plentiful and there are mulitple events in every zone that award experience points as well as the seemingly pre-requisite ten daily quests. All in all, players are kept fairly busy. Skills and stats can be increased as players level up. Some skills branch in two directions so a player has to make a choice how they want to build their character. For instance, do I specialize in one-hand/shield slash-n-bash or two-handed dismemberments? There are only a few classes, but they seem to provide enough variety to keep it interesting. You really get a sense of epicness though. It's satisfying to see your puny human single handedly take down a dungeon boss dragon.

The audio is fine. Sound effects, music (love the character selection screen theme) and ambient are clear, crisp and with individual volume controls, easy to customize to one's liking.

Now, what I didn't like so much. While early leveling seems easy, post 60 seems to slow down significantly. I've asked in game if this is normal and the majority of responses seem to support that. The constant grinding and repeats of dailies is why I burned out. However, to be fair and thorough, I am primarily a solo player, so those that thrive on groups, guild drama and PUGs may have an entirely different experience. Also, I have yet to play an MMO other than RoM (who is closely associated with this game) to provide multiple start locations. This may be due to only the obligatory human as the only selectable race. Cash shop. So far, most of what I've seen are questing aids and cosmetic. No "enchant your gear with +5DMG for $5" stuff. Sure, there are rare dragons sold, but so far nothing that makes me think "Pay2Win" over "Free2Pay" (yes, purposely left out the'l') The system seems more like NWN than RoM.

Overall, I love the game. I find it a good balance between simple gameplay, RPG elements and visuals. I'd recommend it to anyone (mind the game rating), it's free after all.

While it lacks the polish of some of the more established MMORPG's, it certainly has its own charm. The combat system is quite a bit more fluid than that of Guild Wars 2 and Tera Online; remarkably similar to Wildstar Online. The idea of a constant Dragon companion that can be tamed and trained adds to the fun. You will have to decide whether to spend your funds on your own character, your housing, or the dragon. The main draw-back is a quasi-p2w system with exp boosters and more that can be bought for money. At the end of the day, as a free-to-play game; the company needs to earn money. Graphics are decent but can't compare to Tera. Voice-acting is horrible and lip-synch is almost non-existent. The story is lack-lustre at best.

Overall I'd say a solid 7.5/10

Let me start off by saying that this game is far from perfect. Even in its public release, [at the time of writing this] the game is still rigged with bugs and performance issues that might turnoff some people. I know... because it already turned some of my friends off early on when they were playing the beginning stages of the game with me. Sad really.

Another thing that must be said is that this MMO feels catered to true fans of the genre. I know many of you will bash me when I say that the typical "Loot X, Kill Y" quests are ok for this game to have, but I think it all depends on the individual's exposure to the genre. Played RPGs for 10 years straight? Then I think for the most part, you've seen all there is to questing... [fetch, escort, group, raid, etc] until something truly groundbreaking happens. Yes, it is true that the developers did not truly innovate something new within the genre, but as far as a fun game goes, this game has a lot of potential. It still may not be polished the way we want it to be, but I have faith. Let's break this game down a bit.

- Active Action-Based Combat System:

As mentioned before, depending on your exposure to the MMO genre, your reaction to this game will vary. For the most part, within the genre, I only played World of Warcraft SINCE RELEASE. As much as I still occasionally enjoy logging in, I was about ready for something new. I can not tell you the joy I experienced when I played with this combat system within an MMO game.

Taking hints from other MMOs like Tera, in this Action-Based combat system, Dragon's Prophet uses auto-target and combo systems to give you fast-action gameplay. With an emphasis on precision, skill, and wide range of tactical options, Dragon's Prophet's engaging battles set it apart from other traditional MMOs. Combat is fluid, you can attack multiple targets at once with a single click, chain your attacks and skills into devastating combos, etc. Oh... did I mention that you can also DOUBLE-JUMP!? You can also attack from your jump! You can also dodge and run towards or away from danger!

THIS IS WHAT THE GAME IS ABOUT! The world is shaped by dragon-kind, with over 300 different dragons that roam the land in search of riders. You can fight, capture, train, and ride them in order to unlock their unique skills and abilities. Think of vanilla WoW hunters. You see a dragon you like, try to capture it, and use it as a mount, gatherer, fighter, wingman, w/e. People like to refer to the Dragon system to Pokemon and I'll have to agree. No two dragons are the same. If you capture 2 Lockjaws, they both will have different stats, skills, and spells that you're allowed to hotkey. It is through dragons that you define your experience with this game. Play the melee Guardian class but still want to heal? Then go hunt several dragons and hope they come with healing spells and there you go! That is the driving force behind this game.

Think of it like this for those who've played an MMO where you needed to be a certain level to acquire a certain skill. You think to yourself, "Oh man, when I hit this level I get 'Spell X'! I can't wait to try it!" As a result, you end up playing more so you can reach that goal.

With Dragons' factors such as appearance, skills, effectiveness, and included stats, those should inspire the player to keep hunting for exactly what they want.

- PvP and Housing [Personal and Guild]:
The Frontier System within Dragon’s Prophet allows players to compete against each other in a persistent conflict over the archipelago of Sky Islands above the world of Auratia. It allows guilds to come together and form Alliances, which can attack the islands of an enemy and claim it for themselves. Once an island has been captured, it is up to the Alliance to defend the island from potential adversaries.

The Frontier System is comprised of three main sub-systems: Citadel System [The attack and defense of an island], Highlord System [The governing and maintenance of an island], and Housing System [The player housing located on the individual islands].

- In-game transactions:
Let me try to make this very clear. This game is NOT PAY-TO-WIN... I would rather call it PFC [PAY-FOR-CONVENIENCE]. There is nothing that I have noticed within the marketplace that gives you any extra power over one another, and TECHNICALLY, 99.9% of this game is accessible Free-To-Play.

HOWEVER, even though this is a F2P title, the game does not hesitate to make you notice that paying for SC [Station Cash] is a viable option. Do you want more slots to hold more Dragons? Expect to pay. More bank slots? Expect to pay. More bag space? Expect to pay. I don't know how else to word this without it sounding like endless ranting, so I'll just end it here.

All in all, this game is just yet another typical MMO that [what I feel] provides a fresh and unique experience for those who want to try a new MMO who have played WoW or it's "clones". You get everything you expect to see: Incentives for players, Guilds, PvP, PvE, interactive combat, quests, events, holiday events, orchestral music... whatever a MMO offers, expect to see it here.

As of now, I am very interested in this game and I hope it grows more as the old Mount Collector I was in WoW is starting to sprout back up again. I hope I see you online a hope my review was helpful. Please feel free to respond if you need anything else. I know this was a long review, and I'm bound to have missed something here/there, but I still hope I've provided some useful information for you.

Ok, so this is my first review so bear with me on this.

-The idea that the creators were going for in this game was something I've always wanted see happen, taming and fighting alongside dragons is amazing.
-The combat system in this game is pretty good.
-The graphics are great if your computer can handle them.
-The comunity is generally pretty chill.
-Skills are unique.
-Models are nicely done for the most part.
-Leveling isn't overly difficult if you do all your sidequests, but you will need to grind for some of them.
-Character customization is pretty decent.
-You can buy almost anything from the market place without having to actually pay if you play enough.

-The game also has its downsides as well, the PvP system is hard to even consider good.
-The game is basically PvE oriented.
-If you're not in a large guild good luck getting a party together for raid dungeons.
-The population of this game is tiny compared to other MMO's
-There's bugs galore for a lot of things but they get fixed within the next patch.
-Reskinned models everywhere.
-Renamed armor pieces await you around every corner.
-There is a slight pay to win factor in the game but that's expected of any SOE game.
-You can only solo play for so long.
-The Patch Notes are translated horribly (Runewaker is stationed in Taiwan so all the patch notes are translated to english)
-The first 2 beginning zones are no longer open.

Overall, this game has its ups and downs but I enjoy playing it and I don't regret putting all this time into it.
I'd give it a 7.9/10

Dragon's Prophet...I won't beat about the bush, this has to be THE BEST MMO I have ever played, hands down.

Take Guild Wars, add the depth of WoW, but the combat system of neverwinter and TERA, the creature battling content of Pokemon, and the exploration of a console platformer, and Dragon's Prophet is basically what you get.

Dragon's Prophet doesn't nesecarily break the MMO mold, but it does manage to get every possible apsect of the MMO perfectly right.

The combat is a refreshing change of pace from the dismal, mindless grind of WoW. It's basically like Vindictus and TERA had a scaly baby. Since you're actually DOING something while in combat, merely killing mobs is enjoyable.
(And unlike TERA, Dragon's Prophet doesn't restrict your movement speed in combat, which is nice.)

Dragon's Prophet also features a more fluid questing system. Sure, there are your traditional MMO style quests, but there are also public events. (Basically skirmishes that break out from time to time in certain places.)
The game also features "surprise" quests that pop up as you journey through the world, which really contributes to making this game feel alive. (Things like rescuing travelers from bandits or doom dragons, helping wandering doctors to save a patient, picking up a rare dragon's egg, ect.) Not to mention some quests are activated by finding secret hidden things, exploring the world carefully is well rewarded.
To my great surpirse, Dragon's Prophet actually rewards exploration quite a bit, which is both odd and wonderful for an MMO.

And of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the dragons. Dragons can be captured, trained, battled, ridden, hatched from eggs, I meant it when I said it was like Pokemon with dragons.
And yes, you are totally free to fly your dragons wherever you want. No invisible walls. Flying is a pure joy in this game.
It also makes travelling a breeze.

And did I meantion you can have a house in this game? Yes. A FLIPPIN' HOUSE!
Or an apartment, or a secret tower, or a mansion...and you can decorate the whole thing.
THE WHOLE THING. With furnature...furnature you build with recipes you find in the world.
And the house isn't just pretty to look at, you can store stuff, hatch's basically a house.

Add that to terretory war PVP, and GvG combat, and there probably isn't a single thing you could add to this game.
(Except perhaps more dragons.)

The story isn't nesecarily a triumph of RPG lore...the devs clearly spent almost all of their time worried about the gameplay.

Finally, I can tell the burning question on your mind. "Is it really F2P?" Yes, as a matter of fact, it is totally Free to play.
In fact, this has to be the LEAST Pay 2 Win game I have ever played.
This game features a detailed character creation system, which is entirely free.
With the exception of a few costumes, EVERYTHING in this game can be obtained without spending a single cent.
The only things this game will attempt to charge you for is extra inventory space, dragon slots, and certain costumes.
Convenience is what this game sells in its cash shop, not power or "win."
However, in addition to all that, Dragon's Prophet also features Dragon Insignias, tokens that can be obtained from daily quests which can BE USED TO PURCHASE VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING IN THE CASH SHOP.
That's right, if you don't want to pay money for something in the cash shop, you have two options.
Truly, no one has any right to call this game "pay 2 win" or "money greedy" because this game even lets you get the stuff in the cash shop by just collecting tokens.

Bear in mind, this game only recently came out of closed beta, so optimization is still a little iffy.
However, so long as you make sure you use the 64 bit version of the game, crashing and glitching is kept at a minimum.
Except for a small memory leak, the game has very few problems aside from being a little bulkier then it should be.
(Something the devs merely have yet to fix.)
Glitches that do appear are fixed with reasonable expedience. This game may have been buggy in beta, but most of those bugs stayed in beta. DP isn't finished quite yet, but technical hiccups are minimal.
Seriously though, use the 64-bit version. The 32-bit version is another matter entirely...YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

To sum it all up, Dragon's Prophet is a criminally overlooked, heinously underrated game that deserves the lavish praise most MMOs don't. If you're looking for a game that is truly free to play, a pure joy merely TO PLAY, with content so deep you could DROWN in it, with FREAKING DRAGONS, then this is the MMO for you.

If you don't set your expectations to high. This game can be enjoyable. For some mindless self indulgent fun. Just don't go spending real world money. Dragon capturing is fun, but better once you get high enough lvl to capture the unique dragons. And combat is enjoyable as well. The combat combos may take a min to get used to. But they introduce them at a nice pace.

Alot of content has been removed since the open beta. Going from three starting areas, to one. Prolly blame that on low game population. "Sony Online Entertainment" - SOE seems to not be putting a hole lot of effort into this game them selves. They seem to just simply pay for the right, so they can milk the in game transactions for their own benefits.

There is the vocal minority that seems to complain about game performance. I do have a slight issue with it my self. mechanically, the game is fun. But graphically, the performance seems to drop a lot. If you're lucky enough to play the graphics on high, its a gorgeous game.

The other issue i had with the game is the number of random number generated mechanics that is in this game. If you want the perfect build. be ready to spend real world moneys. Even then, that wont be enough.

Apparently a lot of players have migrated to the EU client. Since they do more in supporting the game then SOE does here in the US.

In conclusion....

If you just want something to pass the time, or maybe try something new. Experiment something new with a group of friends go for it.

But if your looking for real in depth game. This might not be the one for you. I will admit, I haven't gotten to the "end game" content. So I don't know where the game goes. But I am sure there will be plenty of grinding if you're into that.

"A Dragon riding based mmo....enough said".....The frist review i wrote was not excatly one you would wanna read if you wanted to know about about the game so i figure I would do it right this time. Dragons Prophet is a free to play mmorpg. Its combat is more skilled based then most mmos out there, with rolling and blocking, heavy attacks and combos. It allows players to feel as if you are reallty fighting an enemy with the classic mmo skills assigned to the number keys. But what makes this game VERY cool and one of a kind is the dragons scattered around the world for you to find, capture and level up. Dragons ranging from " Chicken" looking ones to the big bad ♥♥♥ dragons we have all known to love. But no game is perfect. The lack of races and only 3 classes will make you not feel as special as WOW or guild wars. But the EXTREME amout of customization you can do to your player you can make some very one of a kind people, ( to the point of makig a female have breasts that look like trafic cones ) and the odd demented freak if you wanted. The combat can get choppy and skip frames every now and again. The biggest issue i have with it is the random crashes that NEED to be fixed. .It of course being a free to play game will leave you with limitations...... Potions you need to capure some rare and high level dragons you have to buy with real cash, and all the other stuff that comes tagged along with a free to play game.(I should add if you work hard in game you can work around all that stuff but it will be a time killer). But eh they have to make money. The guild system is one of the best i have ever seen in a mmo of any kind. Giving the guild its own houses, and special guild hall area that players can drop in and out of and call the rarest of all dragons( with specail fluts) to try and capture . Word of advice join a guild as soon as you can!

But all in all Dragons prophet is one game you should at least check out if you have not already. Well worh the free price tag. If you can manage to download it with out any issues you will enjoy it. P.S if you get into the game and enjoy it, a word of warning you will become crazed with trying to capture or call the rarest of all dragons known as " Ancient Dragons" to the point that will will most likey cave and buy one for $10. You have been warned

Hi fellow RPG'rs
I like this game for it's Arena, weekly Tournament, Auction House and great buncha people.
Unlike so many MMORPG's out there, this isn't populated with spammers and idiots :-D
Oh, and I forgot... I love flying around on my dragon. It doesn't get old for me.
It has P2W tendancies but, as everyone is friendly, it doesn't matter, when you are having a blast for free also.
It is definitely worth playing to level 30 at least once, if you like this type of game. You will have a good idea if it is "for you" or not and have no need for SOE game cash to get there. ...or through the entire game if you wish.

The game seems pretty great, being an MMO with unique things like taming/riding dragons, even as early as you can. Fast paced combat, smooth movement and pretty high body configurations.

Things that i personally found funny, is that when making a female character, you are able customize the chest/waist area alot more than any other areas of the body, like what i mean is, theres about like 10 things you can edit on the chest alone, as well as the buttox. Another thing, was AI i can seem to confuse easily, like hiding behind things or whatever, and it ends up making the AI stand completely still, and i can whack away at them but they cant get at me. (Could be different for you, but me persoanlly have run into that plentiful of times.)

To me, i think the only downfall to this game, is the capeability of doing things. For example, you have an extremely small space for just about anything, and most of it is only cash shop bought, sadly enough. But, the good side to that, is that its mostly all very dirt cheap, which i found reasonable, and i myself, being dirt poor find that these prices are quite reachable.
