I didn't expect much from this game but it still managed to disappoint me utterly. I don't even know where to start. The gameplay
is horrible. You basically have 3 ways of destroying the opponent and none of them is fulfilling in the long run. You either press B (on an XBOX controller) to shoot a rocket when the square mark on your opponent turns red and hope it hits. It usually doesn't so then you enter the dogfight mode
. This means pressing RB+LB which puts you just right behind your opponent and then you again have to wait for a circle mark to become red and press B to fire missiles. Sometimes when you're in the dogfight mode a script activates and you can see a cam shot of your opponent exploding, which gets boring really fast. The last way to kill an opponent is to do a turn around on him when he tries to rocket you from behind. In that instance you wait for two arrows to cover each other and- guess what- press RB+LB to appear behind the enemy in the dogfight mode again. The whole game is basically a big, repetetive, boring QTE event.Flying
itself is really disappointing. It feels nothing like a plane and every plane model flies exactly the same, despite different stats. The controls are unprecise. Also, I have to mention the camera work- it's just atrocious. The FOV is way too low which makes you see nothing apart from your own machine and after some time spent in the dogfight mode I started feeling dizzy.
You can also fly helicopters- don't get too pumped, though. It comes down to pressing LT when your crosshair is set on a land target and then pressing RT to shoot it- the end. It also induces the most camera problems
- cockpit view is the only way to play (it's an opposite story with planes- the cockpit view is utterly useless). The story
is forgettable (blah blah Russians blah blah betrayal blah blah Murica).
Initially I wanted to praise the soundtrack
but it becomes repetetive fairly quickly, especially that it plays one chosen track during each mission and hearing it over and over again during missions that can last over 30 minutes makes you sick pretty fast. I'd also like to mention this game features the worst French accent in the history of gaming
but it's not a big deal- the voice acting is decent overall.
I'm also under impression that the game tries to artificially prolong your gametime
, usually by excessive time pressure, at least in higher levels of difficulty.
Unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy this game for more than initial 30 minutes- and I've raged through my playtime all the way. It's cheap but I wouldn't recommend buying it. Heck, I wouldn't even recommend playing it for free.
If you're looking for a pleasant, semi-challenging game featuring planes (including jets) try War Thunder. It's free and it doesn't try to be something it shouldn't be
