DAMAGE IS BACK ON TRACK!

We're happy to let you know that the latest hotfix for Wreckfest is now out, giving much needed love to our damage system and making it more brutal than ever before in both single player and multiplayer. The update also improves CPU performance and features a nifty workaround for those having issues running the x64 build. Needless to say, we've also put in a host of other minor fixes, details below.

Please find the changelog here:
  • Improved visual damage precision and increased deform strength.
  • Implemented multi-core physics optimizations and other performance improvements.
  • Implemented a temporary x64 build workaround for certain GPUs.
  • Re-enabled automatic controller detection.
  • Fixed positive wheel steering sensitivity curve.
NOTE! Positive steering sensitivity values now have a higher effect.
  • Improved brakes and increased handbrake torque (again).
  • Last Man Standing now ends if second to last car is eliminated by contact timer.
  • Fixed replay mode's glitched 4x fast-forward.
  • Implemented various spectator HUD fixes.
  • Tentative fix for multiple copies of a player joining a lobby after a crash.
  • Enabled wheel release for vehicle damage.
  • Added dedicated limited slip differentials for each vehicle.
  • Improved suspension setups of all vehicles.
  • Tweaked gamepad controller slightly.
  • Improved vehicle cameras.
  • Fixed contact audio with various objects.
  • Added new paint jobs for Euro Coupe 2 and American Muscle 3.
  • Fixed missing surface collisions on Tarmac 1.
  • Improved collision of sand mining equipment found on Sandpit 2.
  • Vehicle props on Sandpit 1 no longer cause massive damage and move around.
  • Improved default reference weather.

Thanks for your support and happy wrecking!

About This Game

Wreckfest is a new demolition derby themed racing game with soft-body damage modeling, sophisticated driving dynamics and in-depth vehicle upgrading, featuring both demolition derbies and more traditional track races. It’s all about fun, breakneck racing and over-the-top crashes.

Expect epic crashes and tight, neck-to-neck fights over the finish line on run-down racing tracks. Expect proper demolition derbies. Expect brand new ways for metal to bend and the signature once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation.

It’s a motorsport, but not just any motorsport. It’s a motorsport with attitude.

Unique Racing Experience

First and foremost, we’re building a FUN racing game with PERSONALITY. It’s all about the stuff that really matters: varied tracks, cool cars, and the defining once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation. If you’re familiar with our previous games, you already know what we’re aiming at: exhilarating racing action with sophisticated physics and damage modeling, only this time we’re upping the ante on almost every front. This is the game we envisioned way back in the early 2000s, only re-imagined for today’s technology and gaming standards.

Awesome Cars

The cars are old, cheap, banged up, patched together, rusty… just awesome! In short, our cars ooze with STYLE. You won’t find anything like them in other racing games. We’ve got variety, as well: everyone loves the old American heavy-hitters from the muscle car era, but we’re not neglecting the fun little European and Asian cars from the long-gone decades either. The best part is that you’ll be taking them apart and building them back up again in your garage; the career is as much about your garage and your project cars as it is about racing.

Exciting Engine

Our in-house ROMU engine is a hell-bent beast that's precision-engineered for high-speed, breakneck racing. We have also already implemented fully deformable soft body car damage, meaning that the cars will react to damage in a very tangible, convincing way. While we're focused on action, motorsport authenticity is not forgotten, either. To that end our engine is simulating vehicle dynamics in a very sophisticated fashion. Rolling resistances, casters and slip angles are definitely not ancient Greek to us, and you as the player will be the one benefiting from our expertise.

EARLY ACCESS FEATURES

The current Early Access release contains four playable cars and a number of tracks, showcasing both white-knuckle track racing and explosive demolition derby action with 24 cars that will give you taste of things to come. During the coming months we’re going to give the game a lot of polish as well as implement many new exciting features, and all Early Access supporters have a unique opportunity to get involved in the development of the title!

We’ve also giving a playable Technology Sneak Peek 2.0 to all our Early Access supporters. The sneak peek features a playground that we use internally to test various features various like car damage and environment destruction. Version 2.0 includes new destructive machinery, more dynamic stuff to blow up, spectacular stunts and an awesome physics cannon that we use to play with our physics engine. With the physics cannon you too will now have a chance to cause mayhem to heart’s content by launching missiles, throwing stuff around and destroying the environment as well as the cars!

  • Online multiplayer with 24 players.
  • Dedicated server support.
  • LAN multiplayer.
  • Seven cars: American Muscle I, II & III, European Hatchback, American Sedan and European Coupe I & II, each with unique handling traits.
  • A number of different performance and handling upgrades, mimicking selected real-world parts.
  • A number of race tracks including Tarmac, Sandpit, Figure 8 and Speedway I & II, featuring both normal and reverse layouts.
  • Four different derby stadiums: Speedbowl, Stadium, Small Stadium and Mud Pit.
  • Various race and derby game modes including Team Deathmatch with up to (!) 24 cars, all with dynamic damage.
  • Soft-body car damage physics system that doesn't need a super computer - even online!
  • Highly configurable support for force-feedback wheels, pedals and H-shifters.
  • Dynamic content that reacts realistically – fences and billboards break down, tires fly around.
  • In-game Photo Mode and Replay with a number of cameras, configurable field-of-view and depth-of-field.
  • BONUS: A playable Technology Sneak Peek 2.0 - Have fun in the physics playground!

UPCOMING FEATURES

Wreckfest is currently in early Pre-Alpha stage, and the Early Access version is going to serve as a basis on which we will continue building the game based on your feedback on what works and what doesn't. Throughout the Early Access phase we're going to gradually add more content and new features to the game, with some of the most important key features planned being:

  • Improved car damage and handling.
  • More cars, each with different stylings and performance.
  • More race tracks and derby stadiums with varying surfaces.
  • More dynamic content on the tracks to drive through and crash into.
  • Highly configurable multiplayer with a variety of modes.
  • Extensive player garage and car upgrading system.
  • In-game classifieds to buy and sell cars and parts.
  • Streamlined and polished user interface.
  • Improved graphics quality and performance.

Please note that all features mentioned here may be altered or removed during the development of the title if deemed necessary.

if you are looking for insanely funny racing with a whole mess of manics and a wide range of racing styles this game rocks !

On the other hand...if you have little sense of humor, insist upon proper racing and feel little desire to make friends with anybody....well maybe this might not be for you

but seriously there are clean racing clubs, dirty racing specialists, demo derby experts and loads of idiots happy to help you get fast....mostly so they can put you into the wall without feeling so guilty...lol

hope to see you out there :)

I bought the game on sale about a year ago and it was a fun game, but there wasn't a lot of variations with the races. Isnce then, there's been a major patch, plus a lot of little ones, that have improves the difficulty of the game and added more variation. You can no longer simply hold the gas down the entire time and braking in tight curves is needed to avoid crashed. Speaking of crashes, the crashing and damage has been upgraded as well and now you can really feel the imact of the crashes. You no longer flip as easily as before the big patch, but it is still possible to roll in the right circumstance.

It is still early access, but I think it is worth the money. I've certainly put in enough hours to enjoy the game.

One last note: If you see any review from June 30th to July 7th or so, ignore it. The physics engine has changed a lot since the June 30th update. Cars are easier to control, crashes have more weight to them, cars are damaged in more extreme ways. In the two weeks since the June 30th major patch, there have been numerous improvements that make the early reviews out of date already.

I don't know why I'm reading so many negative reviews on Wreckfest beacause of its new physics engine. Maybe I am the black sheep but I really enjoy the game with its tendency to simulation. I can agree with reviews saying the game is less spectacular and arcade-feeling, but steering is more accurate (with a gamepad and a Logitech Driving Force GT tested by myself) and races are more exciting in my point of view. I really wish developers will add more track really soon and with more time a career mode and a local split-screen mode (up to 4 players). For the ones who want a funny, good arcade experience, try Flatout Ultimate Carnage! Wreckfest is now going to a sim-looking racing game. Cheers!

Don't try this in its current state, wait for an update or two but keep an eye on it! It was the most enjoyable car game I played in a decade before the last update finally arrived and I have faith in Bugbear to sort it out and deliver something great in the end.

The problems are mostly of technical nature at the moment: the networking is all messed up and the game is inferior to its previous state graphically and performance wise; but these issues can be solved in a couple of updates.

I'm still undecided on the new physics, I really liked the middle ground between sim and arcade racer before the update, now it is much closer to realism. Driving feels good on tarmac, not so much on gravel or mud. Cars are less prone to flip or fly leading to fewer spectacular crashes. Will see how it works out on the long run...

Update after a couple of hotfixes: Now the game is back to playable again in a slightly uglier form (on the low end of things). I feel it is still missing some of the magic from before the last big update. Driving is much more challenging now (especially with a keyboard), still fun but different. I hope they will bring it somewhat closer to how it was before, but things seem to head in the right direction in general.

What the hell happend? This was such an amazing game before the most recent update. I reccomemed the game on the features it had alone, but now... The graphics have been signigently downgraded. Every thing is now dull and muted. The handeling is more realistic but that just takes all the fun out of the game. By far the words thing that came with this update is the new physics system... The devs took every thing that made this game fun and amazing and took it out. They took the wrecks out of WRECKFEST... The cars used to crumple and compleatly fall apart but now they hardly dent. Its like the dammage system from FORZA! Do Not get this game. Even if this update is compleatly taken away. 9 months between updates and this is what we get...
An amazing game absoutly ruined. DO NOT BUY!
