About This Game

Wreckfest is a new demolition derby themed racing game with soft-body damage modeling, sophisticated driving dynamics and in-depth vehicle upgrading, featuring both demolition derbies and more traditional track races. It’s all about fun, breakneck racing and over-the-top crashes.

Expect epic crashes and tight, neck-to-neck fights over the finish line on run-down racing tracks. Expect proper demolition derbies. Expect brand new ways for metal to bend and the signature once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation.

It’s a motorsport, but not just any motorsport. It’s a motorsport with attitude.

Unique Racing Experience

First and foremost, we’re building a FUN racing game with PERSONALITY. It’s all about the stuff that really matters: varied tracks, cool cars, and the defining once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation. If you’re familiar with our previous games, you already know what we’re aiming at: exhilarating racing action with sophisticated physics and damage modeling, only this time we’re upping the ante on almost every front. This is the game we envisioned way back in the early 2000s, only re-imagined for today’s technology and gaming standards.

Awesome Cars

The cars are old, cheap, banged up, patched together, rusty… just awesome! In short, our cars ooze with STYLE. You won’t find anything like them in other racing games. We’ve got variety, as well: everyone loves the old American heavy-hitters from the muscle car era, but we’re not neglecting the fun little European and Asian cars from the long-gone decades either. The best part is that you’ll be taking them apart and building them back up again in your garage; the career is as much about your garage and your project cars as it is about racing.

Exciting Engine

Our in-house ROMU engine is a hell-bent beast that's precision-engineered for high-speed, breakneck racing. We have also already implemented fully deformable soft body car damage, meaning that the cars will react to damage in a very tangible, convincing way. While we're focused on action, motorsport authenticity is not forgotten, either. To that end our engine is simulating vehicle dynamics in a very sophisticated fashion. Rolling resistances, casters and slip angles are definitely not ancient Greek to us, and you as the player will be the one benefiting from our expertise.

EARLY ACCESS FEATURES

The current Early Access release contains four playable cars and a number of tracks, showcasing both white-knuckle track racing and explosive demolition derby action with 24 cars that will give you taste of things to come. During the coming months we’re going to give the game a lot of polish as well as implement many new exciting features, and all Early Access supporters have a unique opportunity to get involved in the development of the title!

We’ve also giving a playable Technology Sneak Peek 2.0 to all our Early Access supporters. The sneak peek features a playground that we use internally to test various features various like car damage and environment destruction. Version 2.0 includes new destructive machinery, more dynamic stuff to blow up, spectacular stunts and an awesome physics cannon that we use to play with our physics engine. With the physics cannon you too will now have a chance to cause mayhem to heart’s content by launching missiles, throwing stuff around and destroying the environment as well as the cars!

  • Online multiplayer.
  • LAN multiplayer.
  • Five cars: American Muscle I & II, European Hatchback, American Sedan and European Coupe, with unique handling traits.
  • A number of different performance and handling upgrades, replicating selected real-world parts.
  • A number of race tracks including Tarmac, Sandpit, Figure 8 and Speedway, featuring both normal and reverse layouts.
  • Three different derby stadiums: a large stadium, small stadium and a mud pit.
  • Various race and derby game modes including Team Deathmatch with up to (!) 24 cars, all with dynamic damage.
  • Soft-body car damage physics system that doesn't need a super computer - even online!
  • Highly configurable support for force-feedback wheels, pedals and H-shifters.
  • Dynamic content that reacts realistically – fences and billboards break down, tires fly around.
  • In-game Photo Mode and Replay with a number of cameras, configurable field-of-view and depth-of-field.
  • BONUS: A playable Technology Sneak Peek 2.0 - Have fun in the physics playground!

UPCOMING FEATURES

Wreckfest is currently in early Pre-Alpha stage, and the Early Access version is going to serve as a basis on which we will continue building the game based on your feedback on what works and what doesn't. Throughout the Early Access phase we're going to gradually add more content and new features to the game, with some of the most important key features planned being:

  • Improved car damage and handling.
  • More cars, each with different stylings and performance.
  • More race tracks and derby stadiums with varying surfaces.
  • More dynamic content on the tracks to drive through and crash into.
  • Highly configurable multiplayer with a variety of modes.
  • Extensive player garage and car upgrading system.
  • In-game classifieds to buy and sell cars and parts.
  • Streamlined and polished user interface.
  • Improved graphics quality and performance.

Please note that all features mentioned here may be altered or removed during the development of the title if deemed necessary.

Not enough people posting negative reviews about the lack of update.

I don't want to check your weekly blog and see you eating pizza, talking about the lack of coding you did. Almost 6 months and no update? I used to play this game every night, I used to host 24 car servers all night long, I used to enjoy this game.

Time moves by too fast for game dev's to wait 6 months to update a game and expect the following to still be there.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, EVEN ON SALE. I BOUGHT THE DELUXE EDITION IN OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR AND THIS BAD REVIEW IS ALL I HAVE TO SHOW FOR IT.

People need to know, the reason they have not updated is because they have been currently re doing the entire physics engine for the game. They are redoing the entire core of the game itself. Also if you browse their forums, and browse their blog there is many upon many updates. Don't you think they find their own lack of updates disturbing? Thats why they have been teasing new tracks, new cars, and many other things. They havey an entire hallway dedicated to tracks. People just need to give them time because with this new Early access it throws many things in the Game making process off. Instead of making just 1 final build that people will play and update off of that final build. They have to make several final builds, and give those to the early access. They are trying to release a "final game" as their next update. Also if you check their forums, you'd find out why there has been lack of updates. They have cars falling from the sky, they also have things that would make a car halfway through a wall. Guys be Patient, i've seen what is coming (via the forums) and this wait will be worth it.

This physics are already amazing, the cars and the tracks they have can make you playing for hours. Yes, you can only play so much with 5 cars, and i believe 7 tracks.

Just think of it this way, they know the update is taking long. Don't you think they will put more and more things in this next build to make up for it? Also, once they re-do the engine, updates WILL be much more frequent.

Just realize people. The base of the game is what takes the longest in game making.

This is a recommended buy!

Being a fan of the first two FlatOut games I was hesitant to buy this game, since it is Early Access, and I try to avoid this type of games, but in the end my fan part won.
First of all, what is good about it? Car destruction is amazing, it is the most beautiful destruction model I've seen. And even though I have a pretty weak GPU (GTX 650) this game runs pretty smooth (there are some FPS falls once there is a ton of stuff flying around, but the game is playable during those). Controls are nice, graphics are good. But what pleased me the most is the fact that they actually have a tip for you, when creating a server, on how fast your Internet connection should be for a certain amount of players. Thanks a lot for this, Bugbear.
Now, there are some things that are, for a lack of a better word, bad. A lot of features are missing (that is obvious they will be added, since it is Early Access) and not a lot of servers available (again, this is only because it is Early Access, and not too many people have bought it).

In the end, if you want to have a great time on 5-7 tracks with less than 10 cars, I suggest you buy this game. It is really fun, has great optimization and a fun "sneak peak" which allows you to spawn in the middle of a "playground" where you can reduce your car to a 1/10th of its initial size, by smashing it in a lot of fun ways.
If you are sceptical about Early Access and want a game where there are no grey buttons which you can't press since those features aren't out yet, I think it's better for you to stay away from it for a while and check back in a year or so.

If you liked Destruction Derby on the ol' PS you can't go wrong here. Everything you didn't even know you wanted like features and game modes is already richly supplied in this early access release.

And like a heaven sent blessing from the almighty creater herself, multiplayer works flawlessly.
Thanks to dedicated community players hosting games, you can now drink beer and act like redneck NASCAR driver gone wild as you race around a loop track in the comfort of your home. PIT maneuvering the foolish nub driver in front of you. Sending his whole race down in a spiral fall of disasters, leaving his vehicle lifeless and burning on the track. Providing both an obstacle for your enemies, and for yourself as you return after finishing the lap.
Or drive a mini like European car and sip your tea while you win the race like Sir.

Ultimately it's having 20+ real people to race against, the random elements with all the crashing will make this game have extremely high replayability and it's fun to smash things and get smashed in a racing game.

There is a lot more to be said about this game like, how well it is coded, the engine performs and looks great so far ect.

Still early access, still worth the money.
It can only get better from here.

See you on the track- 10/10 GG

So it's got great physics and damage effects.
Only thing I don't like is that the hits don't feel like crashes, they aren't satisfying and in the end makes the game hugely dull.
I like the game for it's potential but, the biggest mistake we've all made is to believe a game will get better.
I'd like to say that it will get heaps of really good refinements but BugBear's a company that made 3 games literally 'exactly' the same.
Decide for yourself.

A neat tech demo with not much to do. No serious campaign and bare bones multiplayer. I raced a couple of times and was bored. Destruction looks cool, but there's no strategy to it, you can't see detailed damage on opponents afaik, and cars turn slowly, so you just go around in circles until you die. In a destruction derby I think handling has to be more arcade-y so you can do cool things, not so slow.

So it's just that, a tech demo. Development is slow as hell, so slow that I don't think they will ever finish it. If you have a couple of hours to kill and want to crash into cars and this is on sale for like 5 bucks, then cool, go for it. Otherwise, don't bother tbh. Wait until (if) they finish it.

Next Car Game: Wreckfest is one of those games that you don't see often now-a-days.
Next Car Game: Wreckfest is the spiritual successor to Destruction Derby 2 for the PlayStation 1 (In my opinion of course)

I've had tons of fun with this game, not only do I feel like the cars have great handling (Even though sometimes they can feel a bit floaty) but the sensation of smashing into other cars in the arenas is amazing. SLAM! POW! BANG!
There's some good challenges in the game as well, winning the tarmac race can be quite difficult and being the last one in the arenas is quite hard to do as well however I do really love the game no matter how bad I am at it.

But, the game is not perfect, long from being it. I mentioned before that the cars might feel floaty at times and the game really hogs all the power from your computer. It's not a game for all computers. (I run it at 55 fps on almost ultra with my GTX 750ti and 45-50 on ultra)

With that said, lets just get to the pros and cons.

Pros:
  • Tons of fun (smashing into cars and half-drifting around corners)
  • Great physics
  • Great damage on cars
  • Sound effects are amazing
  • One of the best car wrecking games out there

In between:
  • Graphics compared to how much power it needs
  • Cars can be floaty from time to time
  • The variety of tracks

Cons:
  • Uses way too much power for what it really is. A game like "The Crew" uses less right now. (The beta version)
  • Computer AI can be a bit douchy from time to time.
  • The variety of cars
  • Not a great racing game (But a god damn good wrecking game)

Notes:
This game is in my opinion the spirital successor to Destruction Derby 2 and Test Drive: Eve of Destruction.
I would recommend you using a controller or a steering wheel. Playing with a keyboard is no fun.
Always have manly liquor near you when you play this game. Minimum requirement is beer.

Players need to understand about the fun of this game is that it is more challenging but also more rewarding to try to actually overtake someone by using more clever racing lines. I mean, just ramming into someone is easy but what is the motivation behind it? You don't actually become better driver by doing it. It's more likely you just ruin your own race when the cars get stuck due to the 'glue effect'. If you want to wreck the cars, there are derby races for it.

In addition, I'd like to point out that the fun in racing isn't only about the results. Racing against someone who drives approximately as fast as you is more rewarding than dominating a race. I once got to race wheel-to-wheel with someone on the Tarmac track for almost two whole laps, and despite finishing second, that was one of the highlights of my online racing career. No stupid ramming, just cars overtaking each other with only minor banging of wheels, with both drivers leaving enough space to keep the racing neat and tidy :)

That is what this game should be about. Wreckfest offers a good framework for clean racing with its driving physics, but also with its damage model: the cars can undergo a few collisions with essentially no loss of speed or drivability.

This is what many racing games such as iRacing lack. They can have better physics but the cars may become undrivable after a small contact. In addition, racing is not bound to tarmac circuits, but takes place on several terrain types, such as mud and sand.

Seeing as the game is on sale I figured I'd finally get around to writing a review for this. As with most of my reviews this is purely based on my experience with the single-player portion of the game.Next Car Game: Wreckfest is an incredibly good racing game and even in early access there's plenty to do. The main selling point of the game is its softbody physics which are pretty much to die for but I'll get into that a bit more later in the review.

+Great graphics on max settings, not sure what it looks like with lower settings
+You can compete with up to 23 other cars
+Racing mode is great fun, on some tracks in particular it becomes less of a race and more of a survival challenge on the longer races which I love
+Demolition Derby is a lot of fun
+The tracks are well thought out and are enjoyable many more times than just once
+Currently five cars with a few customisation options, not sure if there will be more apart from the Deluxe edition car
+An incredibly enjoyable Tech Demo, its good enough to be sold on its own (it isn't of course, you get it for buying the game)
+The previously mentioned soft body physics. They're incredibly realistic and it's so satisfying smashing in to another car and seeing the damage you've done to it. My one complaint about the soft body physics is the fact that it stretches some of the textures sometimes so you can often end up with an incredibly odd looking driver, it really doesn't have any impact on your enjoyment, it just bothers me a bit
+Plenty of different camera views
+Your car can only take so much damage! As different parts of your car stop working your car will get worse and worse until eventually and often inevitably you get wrecked
+Things in the environment get damaged such as walls and skid marks are left on tarmac, especially in a Demolition Derby
+Good value for money

-Feels a tad too easy at times

Verdict:
9

Already a great game I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a full 10, or at the very least 9.5, when everything gets implemented at full release.

The latest update directly from their blog on their official site states they are currently working on a re-polished physics engine and once released they will begin to focus on pushing for more frequent updates. that was posted 2/10/2015 so it IS possible its not abandoned! took only a couple seconds to find this information. Dont only rely on steam comments and news feeds to get you by! As for the game its a really neat game, really shows a lot of promise and I cant wait for future updates to be able to really wreck some havoc. Physics are nice currently, but are lacking. car models are pretty, destruction physics are pretty good too but DAMN, you can really ruin a car. Somewhat odd that it still rolls in that condition. Good game, from a tech demo standpoint. Get it if you are curious to see what the future MIGHT hold for the game, otherwise, wait for a couple more updates. If you have the cash, do it!

NCG Wreckfest is one of the most fun arcade racing games i have played since probably Burnout Paradise back in 2009. this game captures the inner maniac in all of us and is a brilliant successor to the "Flatout" Series. not only is it fun to play with a keyboard, but it is also a challenging-yet-fun game once you plug your G27 or your Gamepad of choice into the USB Slot. overall, i would say that this game is well worth all the $30 that i spent on it, Keep up the good work BUGBEAR!

Brutal rush towards finish, inertion, crashes, damage, flying debris.

I usualy have trouble paying attention during playing casual games, but this seems like an exception, providing constant dopamine influx into my brain.
