First off absolutely love this game the visuals are good (if you know what to turn off!)
My only critisism is that the multiplayer STILL DOES NOT WORK
I dont know what the problem is but the ip address connections do not work
There is still no cross platform compatabilty (as far as I can tell)
This is really sad because version 1.3 had multiplayer that actually worked! I know crazy right!
Beamdog all I can say is FIX IT ASAP

Base game and Siege of Dragonspear still great though

If you want to play with 3 or more of your friends, don't get it. Won't let them all load in. Tried with 5 and two or three would aways disconnect right after we finished creating our characters.

I played the original Baldur's Gate when if first came out years ago. When the Enhanced Edition came out I was hesitant about picking it up since I've "been there, done that" with the original.

One day it came on sale and I said, "what the heck."

It's the same insanely fun game - yet different. The new characters you can bring to the party, the UI changes, the graphical tweaks all make this a refreshing update. It's not worth the price of admission, however, unless you can set aside any zealotry you might harbor for the original. As I said, it's the same game - but it is different. Hardcore purists will be outraged, perhaps.

Overall, I am very pleased that Beamdog brought this classic back to us. The original was an insane amount of fun and they didn't screw that up. Maybe I'm not as overly passionate about my classic originals as others, but I still enjoy this game.

There are not enough D20 ruleset games to be had.

Pros:

* Same Baldur's Gate
* "Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes! RAAAAARGH!"
* "Heyya, it's me. Imoen."
* "My hotel's as clean as an Elven ar*e."
* Fighter/Mage is still powerful

Cons:

* The journal is terrible (at least in the update I'm running)
* Dynaheir is still useless
* Fighter/Mage is still powerful
* Some may find the graphics dated (and they are - the game first came to us in 1997)

I havent played the original version of Balders Gate so I couldn't say whether or not EE makes the game significantly better than the original or whether the 2.0 update is the worst travesty in the history of gaming. However from the perspective of someone thats new to the series and hasnt played many CRPG's I can say the game is alot of fun, and significantly more enjoyable when using the NPC project mod.

The combat is similar to PoE although so far there seem to be less abilities to use (early game), the graphics look fine unless you attempt to zoom in for a close up and the storyline and diagloge is excellent (although I am using mods). The games currently on sale for £6 which I believe is incredible value for money considering the supposed length of the game.

This game tells a story. If you enjoy reading and can think outside of the box then check it out. Otherwise this game isn't for you. The worst thing about it is that it ends.

Was strictly a console guy until I found this a few years back. It started me down the rabbit hole of PC gaming and led me to Steam itself. Have played this over a few times. Well worth the time!

I've played multiple versions of this game, from the original through the mobile versions. This is by far the most accessible and enjoyable of the versions I've played despite having not completed this version at the time of writing, 100% would recommend.

Hey it's Baldur's Gate all over again, but with enhancements that make it not-so-clunky to play in 2016. Same old storyline but with all of the added enhancements, characters, mods, etc. that make this the "standard" for computer D&D gaming. A far better experience than the original. Highly Recommended - 9/10 - bonus points for nostalgia.

This used to be one of the greatest RPGs of all time, but the new developer Beamdog has been a terrible steward of this iconic franchise.

Beamdog has made numerous unnecessary updates to the user interface and has introduced so many new bugs that the game is almost unplayable. I bought the Steam copy of this game for a nostalgic RPG we had played almost two decades ago. Instead we have struggled through numerous crashes, terrible input lag, UI bugs, items duplicating and disappearing among other issues. There are more patches coming out, but so far they have done nothing to alleviate the major issues we've encountered. Reviewing the bug report forums it seems most of these bugs are well known and have persisted for a long time.

In it's current state the game is no longer worth buying from Steam. Do yourself a favor and find a copy of the game that is prior to version 2.0.

If you have an ounce of D&D nerddom in you, buy this. Get it on sale if you can, but its worth the $20 retail too.

The game is very buggy and frequently freezes and crashes. Stick to the original version on GOG.

An RPG classic, updated with lots of ease of use and convenience tweaks, customization options, and improved modding support. (Yeah, I'm not a fan of the new 2.0 character sheet, either, but now the interface is very easily moddable, so you can change it if you want!) Story-wise it's not as developed as BG2; there's a lot of just wandering around having random encounters in the wilderness, and there's not much interaction with your party members. However, I actually prefer low-level 2nd edition D&D combat to high-level "mage chess," and there's an active modding community with plenty of ways to add NPC interaction and other enhancements to your game.

The biggest downside is that Steam makes you install updates before playing, which will break any mods you have installed and wreak havoc with your savegames using those mods. You have to backup your old modded game and launch it outside of Steam in order to keep playing. I don't know if this will get fixed in the future, but it's an important consideration if you're thinking about whether to buy BGEE from Steam or GOG.

This game put to shame so many of today so called RPG's.
If you are an RPG fan, you've got to play this marvelous game and it's sequel BG2.
Do yourself a favor and play it without a walkthrough\guide.

The UI and multiplayer in this game are completely broken and bugged to all hell, even after 3 of their latest patches. UI disappears, various functions randomly stop working among other things.

Singlehandedly one of the greatest CRPGs ever made. If you have any care for Dungeons and Dragons then you need to play this game. Its based off of D&D 2nd edition rules and very faithfully creates that feeling of playing Pen and Paper Dungeons and Dragons. The story is very well written and the character customization is pretty spot on with what you expect from D&D. I'd love to see more playable races such as Gnolls, Kobolds, Tieflings, and half-dragons (or dragonborn), but that isn't required to make this a good game. The controls may take a little getting used to as the game uses a real time turn based which means pausing the battles will be common and frequent.
