What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“When we started developing Heroes & Generals it was with the intention of creating a game for the gamers as much as for ourselves. The games we have been creating in the past (back in the IO Interactive days) have all been shrouded in secrecy until they were released and therefore always carried a number of things that players did not like but we were unable to change. Because it is the players that in the end plays the game we think they should have greater influence on the development.

Since the very early days of the project in 2011 (pre-alpha stage), we invited players in to play the game and have involved our community in the making of Heroes & Generals and listened to the feedback from them. So it's a natural extension of the way we develop Heroes & Generals, to also include the Steam Community, by going Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're approaching the end of our Open Beta/Early Access phase, but it's still too soon for us to put a date on when we'll launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We're still tweaking, fixing bugs and adding new features to Heroes & Generals, and even though we feel that the game is now fun and quite stable, we still wish to get all things 'just right' before we call it 'launched'.

We do not plan to do a full server reset when the game launches.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We're in the end of our Open Beta phase, preparing for launch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Heroes & Generals is Free2Play. We wish to create a healthy, solid and well-balanced game and community, where you can get a great experience playing the game, no matter how much money you spend! There is already an in-game economy in place, where you earn in-game credits and warfunds for being active in the game, by playing FPS-missions and/or handling Assault Teams.

You can also buy gold, which you can use to buy practically everything, usually it give you the option of buying stuff ‘early’, so you don’t need to grind that much. We also offer a Veteran Membership to accommodate wishes of having an all-inclusive package, where you earn xp, ribbon-xp, in-game credits and warfunds at an increased rate etc.

Prices are regularly being tweaked now in Open Beta/Early Access and we will most likely still tweak prices at and after launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We encourage the players to participate in discussions in our forum: http://forum.heroesandgenerals.com/

When you write feedback about the game, remember to try and explain your reasons. Constructive criticism will help us build a better game for you.”

New Scopes coming for all factions in Walker update!

Among all the other awesome new weapons, vehicle tweaks, etc. we must not forget that the Walker update ALSO brings a solid handful of new scopes to the game.

We know the gameplay with scoped rifles is loved by a lot of players, so this is something we have wanted to expand for a while. BUT this said, the different classes still have their different purposes on the battlefield, and we think it is much more fun if these differences are expanded by for example not giving everybody access to all scopes, but limiting the high end scopes to the recon class.

To help you compare the different scopes we placed a soldier with all the different scopes and took a look at the same point to show you the differences in magnification between the different scopes. This information is also written next to the scope when you equip them so you don’t have to remember it.

One thing that looks common among the different scopes, and even across factions is the scope reticle. Only a limited number of ‘standard’ reticles were used and even in American and Soviet scopes the reticle would be called “German #1″ if it was of that type. Below is a quick overview of the different types

So with this out of the way let us take a more detailed look at which scopes are available for which rifles and who has access to these combinations!

We have grouped the scopes of the same type together to keep the image from being gigantic.
  • Gewehr 43 with ZF-4 (T-Post)
  • Kar98K with ZF-39 (German#1)
  • Kar98K with ZF-39 (T-Post)
  • StG44 with ZF-4 (T-Post)
  • Gewehr 43 with ZF-4 (T-Post)
  • FG42 with ZF-4 (T-Post)
  • Gewehr 43 with ZF-4 (T-Post)
  • Gewehr 43 with ZF-4 (German#1)
  • Kar98K with ZF-39 (German#1)
  • Kar98K with ZF-39 (Fine Cross)
  • Kar98K with Zielacht (Fine Cross)
  • Kar98K with Zielacht (German#4)
  • M1/M2 with M84 (T-Post)
  • M1903 with M84 (T-Post)
  • M1903 with M84 (German#1)
  • Garand with M84 (T-Post)
  • Garand with M84 (T-Post)
  • M1 Carbine with M84 (T-Post)
  • Garand with M84 (T-Post)
  • Garand with M84 (German#1)
  • M1903 with M84 (T-Post)
  • M1903 with M84 (Fine Cross)
  • M1903 with Unertl (Fine Cross)
  • M1903 with Unertl (Fine Duplex)
  • SVT-40 with PU (T-Post)
  • MN1891 with PU (German#1)
  • MN1891 with PU (T-Post)
  • SVT-40 with PU (T-Post)
  • SVT-40 with PU (German#1)
  • MN1891 with PU (German#1)
  • MN1891 with PU (Fine Cross)
  • MN1891 with Zielacht (Fine Cross)
  • MN1891 with Zielacht (German#4)
You might notice that the Soviet Zielacht looks identical to the German. This is because the Soviet Union imported a lot of German high-powered scopes in the 1930s as they did not have any of their own design that they felt were as good. On a similar note the German ZF-4 is actually a German copy of the Soviet PU scope.

NB: Those players with existing scoped weapons will have them converted to the new setup, how and when you unlock all these awesome scopes will be detailed in a blog post coming soon!

I used to love this game. I used to tell buddies about this game to come try it, hell, I even almost got my girlfriend to play with me not too long ago. I was actually really excited about this game's future.

But this last update I just cannot recommend the game anymore.

Before this last patch I used to put up with the moon gravity, the subpar optimization, and the borderline 'P2w' concept, because I liked the devs and I paid a little to support them here and there.

But with the latest 'T' build, they nerfed the ♥♥♥♥ out of XP ribbons and grinding for something like the next tier of tanks is almost impossible... Unless you pull out the credit card.

Want that Easy Eight? $10, or dedicate hundreds of hours to get it. To get ONE tank out of all the career choices, all the tanks, and ALL of the factions you might want to play.

Want that fancy Pershing? Or Tiger? Or IS-2? $20 bucks or grind even MORE!

This just isn't a good business model, I understand F2P games need support and funding to keep going, and I was doing just that before the change. But to change your business scheme after you've racked up a decent playerbase is pretty lame in my eyes. Not to mention that these guys hardly even mention anything in the patchnotes about the ribbon nerfs... They just nonchalantly tell us to ♥♥♥♥ off and if we don't like it, well tough sh*t.

I was as loyal as they get to Reto and the game, check my hours. But I'm done until fixes are made, and I'm sure as hell not supporting actions like that.

Heroes & Generals
has tremendous potential. The idea of combining FPS and strategy in WWII is very ambitious, but I believe that it is doable. As it stands, however, I am not able to enjoy this game. Unbalanced and set to Pay2Win creation of the Danish studies strongly rejected me. As already mentioned, the game is free and you yourself test your patience - what if you like it. But I'm going back to Battlefield.

Not recommended ATM!
My first(edit:2nd) review. Sad, but its a bad one. Simply go to the forum, particularly this http://forum.heroesandgenerals.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=41266 page, and see for yourself.
I played, enjoyed, figured out how i want to play this game, and set my goals on unlocking sertain weapons, by grinding xp. But it will take you literally hundreds of hrs to unlock all the best weapons you desire(not to mention the vehicles).
Since the last update, the one being discussed in the link provided, the xp gain got nerfed by approx 70-80%. So those hours of grinding i mentioned, almost doubled.
Old players(veterans) of this game, speak of good old days,(previous patches, almost a year ago) when xp was flowing and unlocks were coming in steady. New players are facing a nightmare of a grind, unless you are in to it(want a s niper rifle-grind for >300hrs, gl). Play it and see for yourself.

Don't even bother installing unless you're looking for a WWII game you can use to kill 1-3 hours. It was hard enough to grind before, even more so after the recent ribbon XP nerf. Weapons are "balanced" through maintenance costs. You can barely even make enough credits in a game to cover repair costs. An antipersonnel mine starts with 24 uses and ends with a 28k credit refill (1000 credits a use). You can earn roughly 1000-5000 credits per match depending on your performance. Bullets, weapon mods, vehicles, chastity belt - anything that you use needs to be repaired every game and it will constantly screw you over. The dev team is also incompentent and has cornered the playerbase with huge grindwalls. The gameplay itself is fun at first, but only until you get tired of getting ♥♥♥♥ on by 10 German tankers and 1 shotting scoped BA rifles. Gameplay is the only thing it has going for it, and that goes stale after rank 3, where you're anally ravaged by end-game enemy tankers and recon. Oh, and you get like 10 weapons (probably less, I haven't counted) to choose from per faction. Most of which you can't even unlock because you need to grind a ribbon for quite literally hundreds of hours.

It's P2W garbage; Reto has been running it into the ground and it's not going to get better. Avoid at all costs unless you're a NEET who doesn't mind grinding hours upon hours and don't want to waste your autismbux on a new FPS game.

This game would be amazing if you could progress before dying of age. It can be fun, but the grind is just too much to make it enjoyable.
