About This Game

Castle Story is a creative voxel-based strategy game in which you can build castles one brick at a time using an army of little characters called Bricktrons.

Your goal will be to explore a vast landscape full of mysteries and dangers, and defend your castle against onslaughts of hostile creatures and possibly other players.

The world of Castle Story takes place on flying islands, high above an infinite ocean. The islands are made of voxels, cubes made of various elements, which means you can dig, carve and build anything you can imagine in the landscape. Digging underground to gather resources, stacking bricks on top of each other to build a wall or even tunnelling through a mountain is all possible and even necessary to keep your Bricktrons safe.

Carefully designing your castle not only requires creativity and imagination, but thanks to pathfinding AI and physics simulations, Castle Story has layers of strategy and depth on top of an otherwise free-form sandbox experience.

Castle Story will be released for Windows & Mac (with possible Linux support once Unity4 is released).

Key Features

  • Build any structure you can imagine! Using 2x1 blocks, create structures that are not only good-looking, but also functional. Your Bricktrons need to be able to navigate your castle to build it and to keep the monsters out!
  • Physics! Watch a tower crumble to the ground realistically when its foundations can no longer support it. The entire world obeys to the laws of physics which means that you need to build cleverly so your castle can withstand attacks from projectiles and explosives.
  • Sandbox! Build a huge sprawling fortress, a single impenetrable bunker or a network of underground tunnels. The choice is yours. Castle Story rewards imagination and ingenuity.
  • Strategy! Command your Bricktrons as they build your castle brick by brick. Manage the way they work, what resources they gather, and the places they explore. Use your resources to build weapons and armor for your Bricktrons and all kinds of upgrades for your castle.
  • Combat! Using shields, swords, bows and lots more, your Bricktrons can defend themselves against the hostile creatures inhabiting the world of Castle Story. Lead your Bricktrons through tough fights, and use your wits to gain an advantage. You can even build catapults to rain destruction on your foes!
  • Magic! The world of Castle Story is permeated with all kinds of magic. Discover resources with magical auras and learn to mix them to create effects. Explore strange places and find mysterious artifacts left behind by unknown civilizations.

I would recommend you buy this game so your grandchildren can enjoy the final version's release, on their deathbeds.

-None of the levels work any more
-In-game menus are broken
-The tutorial doesn't launch
-No multiplayer after years of it being promised
-Years of no meaningful updates

A glorified tech demo, where the tech is broken and nothing happens. I backed this game, and I regret it.

I played this game for about 16 hours. I really liked it, survival was fun and multilpayer was fun. But it seems as though there are no updates, multiplayer needs works. It seems like when the game gets an update it changes nothing.
It is not worth 20 dollars.
At least it isnt like Day One : Garry's Incident

Honestly after a year this game still isn't worth buying. Im not happy with the speed of development.
I have seen faster work from a one man team.

I was very excited for this game. I was actually convinced to buy this game a year ago because a friend had it and wanted to try the multiplayer. We tried forever to get the mutiplayer to work but it never did and the devs eventually locked it and now its been like that for a long time. I never wrote a review about the game because I hoped it would get better. It never did. The game is still plauged with problems and has been in early access for at least a year and a half. That seems like plenty of time to actually get something done, right? Nope. I noticed almost no difference in the game when I played today in comparason to the day I bought it (End of 2013) The only things that seemed different were that they had iron and annoying curruptions that took forever to kill. The game still feels like a buggy mess when I play. Constantly my workers glitch and stop working or listening to commands. Ive seen them complain that they cant reach blocks right in front of them. They bunch up in 2 block wide hallways and I constantly have my guys shot by archers. My warriors dont listen and attacking is annoying because its hard to click on the guy you want to kill. Sometimes guys stand there and die because they glitch out. Some glitches have to be fixed by reloading the save and gets annoying when you have to do it every 30-60 minutes. The game also suffers from screen tearing. My NVEDIA 880M and Intel I7 4710HQ@3.50GHz have trouble running this game because the game refuses to use them to their full power. The highest ive seen my GPU usage go in this game is 40% and the CPU 50%. Mostly the game uses around 10-20% of my GPU and 30-40% of my CPU and my ram hovers around 9GB (Out 0f 32) Since the game refuses to use my gpu or cpu the framrate is terrible. When I get into a game the framerate is great. But it quickly drops and then hits around 1-2 FPS with gpu usage at 1-10% and CPU at 10-20%. I know you have to click the delete key but even then the game hovers around 30-40FPS with 20-30% gpu usage and 30-40% cpu usage. I dont have a cap on frames either. In an attept to fix the screen tearing I lowered the graphics to fastest and went to NVEDIA control panel and turned on VSYNC. Frame rate was still the same even though my GPU was 1-10% and CPU was still 20-30%. On my old computer I had in 2013 (It had a NVEDIA 230M and an I7 cpu with 8GB of ram) the framrate never went below 120FPS and stayed near 200FPS when the game started and I had full GPU and CPU usage. It seems to me that this problem has come recently. The sreen tearing is ugly and basicallyis the final nail in the coffin for this game. Most of the graphical problems arrise when the GPU usage goes down to below 20%. Setting the game to High Priority does not even help. My GPU is not crap either. For some perspective I can run GTA 50FPS with everything at very high except water (High) and shadows (High) with MSAA on and tessalation off. My resolution is 2560X1440p tooso its quite impressive and the game looks great. When playing GTA gpu usage is at 98% and CPU is at 70-90%.

In short the graphical problems come when the GPU is used at its lowest and I could ignore the bugs if it wasent for the horrendus screen tearing and FPS that slowley drops over time. What sucks even more is that when you join a world at wave 10 the framrate starts at 60 and then drops to 10-20 over a period of 2 minutes and its not because there is stone everywhere. I constantly remove the stone by hitting delete.
