About This Game

Castle Story is a creative voxel-based strategy game in which you can build castles one brick at a time using an army of little characters called Bricktrons.

Your goal will be to explore a vast landscape full of mysteries and dangers, and defend your castle against onslaughts of hostile creatures and possibly other players.

The world of Castle Story takes place on flying islands, high above an infinite ocean. The islands are made of voxels, cubes made of various elements, which means you can dig, carve and build anything you can imagine in the landscape. Digging underground to gather resources, stacking bricks on top of each other to build a wall or even tunnelling through a mountain is all possible and even necessary to keep your Bricktrons safe.

Carefully designing your castle not only requires creativity and imagination, but thanks to pathfinding AI and physics simulations, Castle Story has layers of strategy and depth on top of an otherwise free-form sandbox experience.

Castle Story will be released for Windows & Mac (with possible Linux support once Unity4 is released).

Key Features

  • Build any structure you can imagine! Using 2x1 blocks, create structures that are not only good-looking, but also functional. Your Bricktrons need to be able to navigate your castle to build it and to keep the monsters out!
  • Physics! Watch a tower crumble to the ground realistically when its foundations can no longer support it. The entire world obeys to the laws of physics which means that you need to build cleverly so your castle can withstand attacks from projectiles and explosives.
  • Sandbox! Build a huge sprawling fortress, a single impenetrable bunker or a network of underground tunnels. The choice is yours. Castle Story rewards imagination and ingenuity.
  • Strategy! Command your Bricktrons as they build your castle brick by brick. Manage the way they work, what resources they gather, and the places they explore. Use your resources to build weapons and armor for your Bricktrons and all kinds of upgrades for your castle.
  • Combat! Using shields, swords, bows and lots more, your Bricktrons can defend themselves against the hostile creatures inhabiting the world of Castle Story. Lead your Bricktrons through tough fights, and use your wits to gain an advantage. You can even build catapults to rain destruction on your foes!
  • Magic! The world of Castle Story is permeated with all kinds of magic. Discover resources with magical auras and learn to mix them to create effects. Explore strange places and find mysterious artifacts left behind by unknown civilizations.

progress is lacking, dev's seem to have forgot their original intentions for the game. If it ever comes out of beta, don't hold your breath it may be worth getting on sell. Save your self the frustration, and DON'T SUPPORT THESE GUYS IN EARLY ACCESS, unless you like frustration.

This is to this date the FIRST and LAST game that I've ever supported on Kickstarter. It loked amazing---a builder game that had a focus on strategy.

Sad thing is, that it's really gone at a snails pace in over... four years now? It's been in developement that long and there's been so very little content added in. I'd barely call it a game, really. The physics are impressive, however it's just not worth buying on the promises alone... there's very little meat in this sandwhich.

This game has a lot of bugs; however, none are particularly game-breaking and can be easily overlooked.
Sure, it crashes when you shut it off some times, but you lose unsaved data anyway, so it's not like that's a big deal.

Castle Story is a very interesting game: the simple mechanics belie the complex strategy the game is capable of. It's an excellent exersize in resource management, and the end-result once you get good at it is simply breathtaking.

The strategic learning curve is fairly steep: be prepared to lose a few times figuring out what works and what doesn't. If the mechanics weren't so staggeringly simple, I would compare it to Dwarf Fortress.

The price tag is a little steep, but if it goes on sale, even 25%, I would say it's definitely worth a try.

Pros:
You can do awesome buildings
You can build an army
Bricktrons are cute
Developers are really putting effort into the game
The music is very good

Cons:
Little Bugs
Crashes sometimes when exiting the game

Tips:
Save the game each ten minutes

For the developers:
I would like a mode where you build a castle in some time then a wave of corruptrons attack the castle and you must defend the crystal

Sorry for my english i am brazilian

Dev saw I was not happy, then he helped me step by step and now I'm enjoying the game a lot more.
It means a lot to me when the Devs interact with the players and take the time to help out.

I couldnt for the life of me figure out how to create a stockpile, needed to refine and store resources for building, so I pretty much couldnt do anything and the Tutorial was not helpful with this task. Basically all the power in this game comes from holding down the RIGHT mouse button and depending on what or where you are holding the cursor, the options will change. SOMEHOW i missed this but all is well now.

I tried playing this game a few times over the years and struggled with the tutorial and wasnt able to figure out basic game mechanics. Tried it again today hoping to see that it had changed because I was always keen to see where this game would go, but alas. I was stuck in the same rut as previously. I went and wrote a review explaining the faults I saw and decided I'd be back in a few more months to see what has changed.
Well, one of the Devs went saw the review, added me and offered to help, he politely explained step by step what I had missed and now finally I am able to play!

The tools (once you've figured them out) are simple and the options limitless as to what you can build.
Really stoked to have been helped by the Devs and its made all the difference with my attitude towards the game, go sell some of your unused AWP skins and pick this game up, these fat little yellow men are way cuter than your 'worm god stat track' AWP anyway.

Pros:
-Building
-Defending
-Expanding
-Surviving

Cons:
-Not knowing how to get more bricktrons is a problem which wasnt covered in tutorial
-Waiting for the next patch
-Tutorial should be clearer and explain other abilities on game
-Tao being a little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shooting his fellow Bricktron Knights
-Instructions unclear, destroyed crystal
-Passing on work to other workers takes too long
-Pathing has become much of a pain

6/10 but a truly fun and enjoyable game

This game is annoying had a whole article I wrote but it was erased so here is the short version. I have a 8 core amd processor with a 7900 HD sapphire 3 gb graphics card. This game runs choppy...no clue why but its annoying as hell. Then the crickets...WTF why would you put such a constant annoying noise in the game.

Most importantly the little s**t for brains brick heads are as dumb as a Trump supporter. They just get lost and stop working and god forbid their task takes a little effort because they just shut down right away. You need a feature like dungeon keeper or whatever so you can whip them to make them actually work.

Building a castle is impossible and nothing makes sense and I have played quite a few games where you build cities, castles, space stations you name it but only 1 other game comes to mind that is so arguous in building and that other game is super complex, you've made a simple game more complex than necessary.

I am sure over time this will get better but as of right now this game just pisses me off to no end. Really hoped I would have enjoyed it more rather than being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that I have no clue how to delete items (had to google everything to figure this game out) and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that building up is the most annoying thing ever.

This is the first time I have written a review so im going to just start out by talking about the game then I will get into a more pro/con format later in.

I played castle story back when it was just out of the prototype stage and there were many problems. two of the biggest problems were the path finding of the units and the camera's controls, everything else was injoyable. I have taken over 2 year break from this game. After the break I have come back to islands (maps) that are 10x as big as the "first island", two new game modes conquest (capture the point) and invasion (wave survival), a normal camera control system and enemys that you have to defend against. To add on to all that devs are getting ready to launch a multiplayer update where we can share control with friends or battle against one another (but as thats not in yet I will keep that out of my mind for the rest of the review). The game mode conquest is not very injoyable to me but the invasion mode is very challenging but fun so I'm going to focus on invasion. In invasion you start out with a few workers, a knight, an archer and your crystal (homebase) so you stright away get to work setting jobs and delgating how many workers you want doing diffrent jobs such as chopping trees for wood, working the iron mines, working in your querry for stone to make bricks or building your stronghold. Now building is a little unique you have to build your structures one brick at a time (you can click and drag so its not tedious) which means you can end up with a stronghold that can take multiple hits of explosive barrels or one. You can make you stronghold tall or wide its up to you but you do have to make sure you put supports under your structures so that your building doesn't collapse on its self. So I would say that castle story is a game that has seen a lot of growth and is at a stat were its fun to play.

Some pros and cons:

    Pros:
  • very good looking
  • easy to build structures
  • challenging to balance jobs
  • varying sizes of maps
  • terrain deformation/reformation
  • you can build any size or shape structure
  • stress system
  • camera is not unusable like early releases
  • devs are always releasing updates

    Cons:
  • takes large amounts of time to complete structres
  • big map has some framerate issues
  • not all game modes on every map
  • bugs where enemys dont charge your base
  • when builting unless you have two wide paths there may be some pathing issues
  • minor lighting bugs

If you have the money to spare I think castle story is a game you should pick up.

I bought this game in February of 2014, and it has come a long, long way since that time. I remember buying a copy, and buying another copy for a friend of mine, and we both were very impressed with the functionality and gameplay straight off the bat. Early on, it was a little rough around the edges, but seeing as the devs are keeping it updated and adding more and more as time goes on, I have no doubt it will keep getting better and better. The multiplayer is pretty cool, fairly functional with a few small bugs, but I'm going to chalk those up to be the fact that my friend was hosting the server in Michigan and I was connecting from Arizona. The bugs I mentioned were buildings popping in and out of existance, Bricktrons popping in and out of existance (both of these item popping into and out of existance bugs reset after a server restart. Nothing ingame was lost.), and crashes occationally when my friend would stop the server.

As of right now, 05,16,2016, the multiplayer gameplay is a little bland. There's not much to do other than try to make cool castles and watch as bricktrons dig their way into the ground, then eventually seal themselves in their own mines. There is no PVP combat yet with the warriors, but you can still lop arrows at your friend's worker bricktrons when he sends them over to your base to say hello. BUT, the devs Shatojon and Evax livestreamed a new work in progress update teaser with co-op corruptron combat and base building 3 days ago on 05,13,2016. I can't wait until they release it. I will update this review with my thoughts after I have explored the update, but my first impressions from seeing the livestream are very positive. A co-op bricktron combat alongside co-op base building is exactly what I wanted from this game.

Overall, I am very pleased with my $20 investment. Some people tend to say that every hour of playtime should considered to be about a dollar, and if you come up short on hours spent playing, then it's a bad investment. I personally don't think that's a very good idea of how you should look at the picture. I see it as this: if the game is fun, then it's a good investment, if the game is bad, it's a bad investment. You'll never know if it's good or bad until you invest. Don't take my opinion as the gospel, nor should you take anyone else's opinion as the gospel, since we all have different opinions. If the game looks fun to you, invest, if you don't want to, don't. Just don't whine and moan when the game isn't perfect even though it says right above the "Add to cart" button that the game isn't perfect and that it is still in early access. Don't ♥♥♥♥ on the developers who are making this game for a living for not completing the game quick enough. They're taking their time to make the game as perfect as they want it to be, updating it and keeping in contact with the customers. Hell, the developer Shatojon even added me and sent me a message asking my opinion on the game. Has any AAA game developer gone out of their way to actually talk one on one with a customer before? Did Ubisoft go out of their way to ask their consumers' opinions on Assassin's Creed Unity after it was released broken? Nope. The only thing Ubisoft's CEO has said was that ALL Steam users and all PC users are pirates, and that he doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ if the game is broken for us. Would you, the consumer, really rather have a broken game on release and a CEO of the company you're buying the content from telling you to get bent because he's an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, than a game functional in early access and a group of devs who really bust their asses with a game they want people to enjoy? Seriously?

It's been a long time since I knew this game had potential, but Sauropod encountered problem in the first steps of the development. After 200h ingame, I stoped. I came back yesterday, and I have to say: this potential clearly became reality with the last patchs.

There are 4 main modes (for the moment):
-Peace mode: build your own castle (tunnel and bridge) and expand it to a whole map in peace mode. Perfect to practice!!
-Survival mode: try to survive as long as possible to the enemies waves. You'll have to smartly build your castle and defend it with your archers, knights, catapults and traps. (dificulties: easy, normal, hard)
-Conquest mode: build multiple structure and try to expand your kingdom to capture enemie's base without being attacked in your main castle. (dificulties: easy, normal, hard)
-Coop peace mode: build with your friends!

There is also a map editor and a lot of new content upcoming.

Don't care about these old review pointing the bad optimisation, or saying this game is dead. They are wrong, castle story is alive, improving and WAITING FOR YOU SOLDIER! If you like strategic/construction/war game , this one is definitely for you!!!

I brought this game a couple of years ago and it was very buggy and very limited what you actually can do, So i stopped playing for along time but recently i picked it up again and it seems like it improved alot. It seems too have way less bugs the building got way better and the AI doesnt ♥♥♥♥ up as much as it did back then. Still it isnt finished there are still lot of bugs in the game. But if you like building things and blowing them up its alot of fun.

Alright a real review now.

Pros:
Good graphics
I don't know about you but I like the combat.
Good music

cons:
Building a castle isn't as easy as it looks. Well at least for me.
And well, I can't really think of anything else accept some bugs I think are still in the game.

PS. They fixed some big issues that made this game unplayable, and this game is NOT ABANDONED! I don't know why people keep saying that. The devs are still active and working on a release.

This game has had a rocky past. Sparce updates, little progress and bad communications between the company and customers. As Someone who has followed this game for a long time, I can say that i think it is finally worth buying. Sauropod have made a great effort to redeem themselves and get back in with the community. Updates are rolling in and bugs are dissapearing with features being added. There is distance to go before the game is ready but I have so much fun playing it. Invasion mode is addicting and I can spend days playing it. This game has a promising future

I've abandoned this game for 3 years until recently, and i decided to try it out again, see what's changed. Not THAT much has changed, but there are noticeable differences. I abandoned this due to the AI at the time, but now the AI is actually competent and the game is playable now. The game might be slow paced as they have to mine rocks in order to build bricks, but it is quite fun building. There is quite a variety of blocks to choose from, from normal 2x1 to rounded ones and archways. Stairs too. 3 years ago the edit mode (mode to place blocks) was extremely difficult to use and it just wasnt fun to build. But now they've refined it and it is quick and easy to select and place blocks. No snapping in the wrong places anymore. There also are other modes where you get attacked by rock monsters and you have to defend yourself by placing down archers and catapults, which is fun. I mostly like sandbox though. There also is multiplayer, but i havent tried it yet. But from what i've heard, multiplayer is stable. So the end verdict? This game might not be perfect, but it sure is shaping up.

7.8-10

Building a castle is impossible and nothing makes sense and I have played quite a few games where you build cities, castles, space stations you name it but only 1 other game comes to mind that is so arguous in building and that other game is super complex, you've made a simple game more complex than necessary.

I am sure over time this will get better but as of right now this game just pisses me off to no end. Really hoped I would have enjoyed it more rather than being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that I have no clue how to delete items (had to google everything to figure this game out) and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that building up is the most annoying thing ever.

Pros:
You can do awesome buildings
You can build an army
Bricktrons are cute
Developers are really putting effort into the game
The music is very good

Cons:
Little Bugs
Crashes sometimes when exiting the game

Tips:
Save the game each ten minutes

For the developers:
I would like a mode where you build a castle in some time then a wave of corruptrons attack the castle and you must defend the crystal

Sorry for my english i am brazilian
