AP_3141 is now live!

It's that time again, ladies and gentlemen! Time for an update. But not just any update! An update with a lot of fixes and features.

We'd also like to tell you a little bit about ourselves. Who's Alligator Pit, really? What's changed since the last time we introduced ourselves to the community? Read more about it here, on our latest official blogpost!

Talking about community contributors, we'd also like to showcase our brand new achievement icons! Check them out on Steam! They were made by this guy, check out his other stuff!

Also, we created a brand new documentation website for information about dedicated servers, scripting, and more! Check it out at http://docs.samrev.com/. This documentation can be contributed to on Github as well, so feel free to submit any pull requests if you have anything to add.

  • Added a new mutator: Enemies Replacer. This randomly replaces enemies in any level with random special character types.
  • Added a Pitch property to SoundHolder entities.
  • Added a default dedicated server controller addon: the Combative Creature Cutter, also known as CCC. You can add admins, kick people, or invoke votekicks. (More documentation about this soon!)
  • Updated the Bromscript scripting engine.
  • Added new (old) variants of Elementals: Earth and Wind.
  • Added some more customization options to Grunt and Firecracker.
  • Fixed lasergun/tommygun slowdown bug.
  • Fixed windowed mode resolutions not always showing the right values in menu.
  • Fixed "Stats not saved: error 3".
  • Fixed stats for Ziggurrat never uploading to Steam leaderboards.
  • Fixed stats shown in menus always being singleplayer. This also shows deathmatch stats now!
  • Fixed stats not always saving correctly when playing multiplayer.
  • Fixed the way secondary fire, Netricsa, and Use controls were conflicting with each other. They are now all separate controls. This also avoids confusion.
  • Fixed a bunch of minor level issues.
  • Fixed a bunch of minor networking issues.
  • Fixed a bunch of minor graphical issues.
  • Fixed a bunch of crashes.
  • Fixed a few survival exploits.
  • Lots of internal code changes that will allow us to roll out fixes even faster!

To me, its the best version of the TFE and TSE games and the other extra things are nice too.

I just hope they manage to fix the water collison in the future (and adding the other promised contents/features as well)

some thoughts about the game for ppl who dont know anything about SS series

its more like a "kill the sam simulator" its not a fun game like doom/quake
Game is challenging u with different enemies, enemy counts and spawn rates in closed arenas or big open areas.
AI has pathing issue(stuck in walls), hence why the high count and empty level design.
very hard game, and sadly to much content is locked behind exploring and for higher difficulties (serious sam games have one of the worst difficulty scaling model)

TFE:
simple, but effective gameplay and level design. Its not rare to feel bad about the dull level design and pacing, especially on lower difficulties
u have all the weapons u need and all weapons work different, however i am not fan of rocket spamming in fps games
terrible pacing on lower difficulties

TSE:
introduction of:
-power ups
-new weapons: sniper rifle, chainsaw, flamethrower and serious bomb
-platforming
-better level design and more variety with 3 "theme"
-new enemies

TFE is the real one, once u know how to play

Awful port of the first two Serious Sam games, but you get the original SS:TFE and TSE if you buy this. Cheapest way to acquire the original games so I have to recommend it for that alone.

I havn't really played much of this but I've played alot of the originals. Basically, this is Serious Sam so there isn't a reason not to buy it. I did have a bit of an issue with split screen if anyone could help with that.

*DISCLAIMER: I know that I had a negative review but, that thing was very old and I was angry with the game for no particular reason. I was pretty much a noob back then but now I decided to write an ACTUAL review for this game.*

This game is pretty much awesome; I love going around destroying every thing I see in front of me and this is one of the best games in my library so far. I do recommend this game despite the fact that it might not be 100% bug free but fun is fun and nothing can stop me from playing this game. Thank you for your time. This game is simply enough A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!

Ok, I'm old compared to the bulk of gamers these days but at early FPS games I was a god and could own anyone. This game rekindled my love of those halcion days again.

It's fast, interesting model wise (classic Serious Sam in 1080p for gods sake) and most importantly it's amazingly good FUN.

It's FPS gaming Nirvana.

Look, I'll spell this out. If you enjoy FPS you'll enjoy this. Forget the world around you, immerse yourself in it's full on universe, revel in the all time great punchlines, the varied hordes, the FEEL.

The FEEL is the best part. Not emotionally but physically. The enemy hordes react properly to being shot. There are no did I hit that moments, you hit something it reacts like its been properly hit. It's a visceral, almost tactile, experience and can't be explained until you play it, it just feels RIGHT.

If it's wrong to love a virtual shotgun then arrest me, I'm guilty m'lud :)

Treat yourself to a guilty pleasure, just go and get this now. It's old school but it's PROUD of it in every possible good and meaningful way. It's not just some newbie knob knocking up a half baked low res platformer that would have sucked even back in the 80's or a cash grab by a talentless tosser using stock items on an engine that should never have seen the light of day.

This is the REAL DEAL and it's awesome.

It's an EAG, so given the community/developers it'll only get better and it's @@@@ing awesome already.

10/10 would kill and kill and kill again.

Keep up the great work guys. Despite some minor if frustrating update errors (don't kill peoples save games) this is a stone cold WINNER !!

Many thanks for this, you've made me very happy, very happy indeed.

Product received for free
Although this game is still currently being worked on, it is still pretty fun. What's neat is that it gives you the first and second classic encounters free if you haven't already purchased them before, so its like you're getting a buy one get three oppertunity. I look forward to Aligator pit and Croteam's final and official release of this game.

This is a long review so if you just want a brief summary of why I recommend Serious Sam Classics: Revolution then skip to Results and read from there.

Alligator Pit manufactures the original in all new light with dazzling new interface and cleaned up visuals. Serious Sam Classics: Revolution revitalizes the classic games taking on similar ideas as the HD remakes by creating a game with cleaner performance.

Serious Sam: Revolution includes the first and second encounters, which means instead of paying $34.00 for both the First and Second Encounter you can get them both for $9.99 (without being on sale). Although, what you are probably wondering is what else is included in Serious Sam Classics: Reovlution? To name a few better graphical options, steam support, new campaigns, new bosses, improved UI, level editors, and much more.

Campaign:
The First Encounter:
For those who already own the first encounter you should probably skip this. This campaign includes thirteen main story levels and two secret levels. All of the levels take place in Egypt and are about the story of how Serious Sam began his quest to save humanity from Metals domination. The original campaign offers hours of gameplay as the levels are incredibly large and filled with secrets. The levels are composed of fighting mass hordes of enemies, solving puzzles, and completing objectives. During the campaign you will fight three bosses: Highlander Aludran Reptiloid, Lava Golem, and Ugh-Zan III. The brilliant group fights and epic boss fights keep you on your toes constantly engaged in a changing environment.

The Second Encounter:
For those who already own the second encounter you should probably skip this. This campaign includes twelve levels (no secret levels), but it also includes the entire campaign from Serious Sam The First Encounter. The campaign is divided across three kingdoms: Mayans, Persia, and medieval Poland. Similar to the First Encounter the second encounter is incredibly long, the levels are large and filled with secrets. The Second Encounter creates even more puzzles, crazier secrets, and throws more enemies at you than imaginable. Not only will you be engaged in all the mysteries abound, but the campaign also provides four bosses: Kukulkan, The Wing God, Exotech Larva, Mordekai the Summoner, and The Ram-God. The Ram-God is from Legend of the Beast DLC, which I assume is going to be implemented into Serious Sam Classis: Revolution.

Bright Island:
I have no information on this campaign, as it is not available in the early access beta.

Space Crusader (Possible Additional Campaign):
This campaign will include the following levels: Water Planet, Lava Planet, Green Planet, Ice Planet, Tropic Planet, and Rock Planet. Although none of this is mentioned, there are hints that this is being implemented based on the screenshots. The screenshots show that they may finally implement the scrapped levels and weapons from the Original Serious Sam. One of the weapons in the screenshots is the Ghost Buster (it looks like it shoots electricity) which was never implemented in the original campaign. it looks like this weapon is being used on the Rock Planet, which is one of the many various planets that was never included in the Serious Sam Campaign. The original campaign would have been over double the size if they finished developing most of the levels they had planned, but for various reasons they were cut. This makes me hope that this edition is finally fulfilling the original dream for Serious Sam and bringing the campaign in its full glory.

Graphical Additions:
The actual quality of the textures is the same as you would see in the HD remakes, although what Serious Sam Classics: Revolution offers is more than just a HD texture experience. It provides modern day graphical elements including: lens flares, fog, object bending, object translucency, smoother particle animation, haze, high resolution reflections, better portal animations, cleaner lighting, higher shading controls, and more. You can see all of these in action by checking out the Technology Test, which provides you with clean visuals of how these will be seen when implemented into the new campaign.

Steam Functionality:
Finally Serious Sam will have access to the workshop, and proper steam servers. The game is supposed to offer up to 42-player multiplayer and even support split screen. The game will come with a level editor, so if they don’t come out with space crusader or sky city someone will. Review Update Serious Sam Classics Revolution has been out now for almost two-half weeks, since then there has been a bundle of added content to the workshop. These include remodeling of textures, multiplayer maps, and even a custom campaign. SSCR has a lot of to offer, and if the community support continues in this fashion this will be an amazing addition to the series.

Results:
At this current point Serious Sam Classic: Revolution is not complete, but lets be honest Croteam and Devlover Digital completed Serious Sam HD in a timely manner; I am sure that you will not be waiting forever, unlike some Early Access Games. This game has a lot of potential with its new graphics engine, level editor, providing the original campaigns, better menu UI, cleaner animations, steam support, and so much more. I would buy this game at full price, but on sale it’s like you are robbing Croteam.

Pros:
+Great new OpenGL shaders and 64-bit support to create a much cleaner and graphic intensive game.
+Steam workshop support
+Steam servers for multiplayer (supports up to 42 players)
+Includes Serious Sam First and Second Encounter
+New Survival Mode
+Already mention of new Bright Island Campaign
+A level editor, so you can go crazy and make your own Serious Adventures
+Loads of enemies and bosses
+Lots of guns to choose from
+Already downloaded my first custom campaign, thanks Workshop support!

Cons:
-Its early access
