Alpha 9 Progress

December 29th, 2013

We are hard at work on alpha 9 for a few months now, which will introduce a whole pile of new features and changes to the game that will reshape the game from current builds with features that have been suggested by the community (multiplayer, classes, new view & new graphics, goal based gameplay, new crafting system and a whole pile of other features), details can be found here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/227720/discussions/0/846963710989952580/ and a screenshot of progress here: https://twitter.com/Farmergnome/status/411164973537042432/photo/1

Due to the scale of this update we are expecting this to take a few more months to be ready for consumption, I will be updating the alpha 9 thread in the link above with all progress as it moves forward and my twitter ( @farmergnome ) with screenshots and visual progress.

After this update we will be back to our update a month schedule. Thanks for your patience guys and girls!

About the Game

Shipwrecked on a tropical island, you must use your wits and the natural environment to survive, craft, explore - and eventually, find your way home. Under the Ocean is currently in early alpha.

Craft
Under the Ocean features a flexible, physics based crafting system. Hundreds of items interact in strange and unexpected ways. Attach a sharp rock to the end of some driftwood to make a spear. Then a glow worm for lighting, or dip the tip in poison berries - or both! Build traps to ensnare prey, windmills to generate power, a lakeside cabin, and eventually, a raft to make your way home.

Explore
Islands in Under the Ocean are randomly generated, giving you a new experience each time you travel. Elements mix and match in interesting ways. If you're on a boar infested island, you'd better have washed up armed! Islands can have different size, shape, terrain, lighting, weather, starting equipment, tools, weapons, animals, plants, backstories, hazards and more.

Contribute
Under the Ocean is still in Alpha, so by purchasing today, you’re getting in on the ground floor. This of course means bugs and rough edges; but it’s also a chance to meaningfully support the development of the game, and help shape its future. Vote on new features at http://www.underthegarden.com

This game has a load of cool features you can build you can craft eat drink cook there is so many features!
The graphics are great and you'll get your money's worth if you do buy this! But if your unsure wait until it has a sale.
This game may seem dead but no this game is just got bugs that need squashing and so many other things like working on multiplayer (what they said they could try to get into alpha 9. I enjoyed many things in this game i started with just a blunt axe but once i started getting used to the controls and crafting i finally started to really have fun with this game.

It is highly recommended to try this game its really worth the price!

Overall il give this a 8/10 because it has so many features but no tutorials (manual etc) to tell you how to get started also there isnt loads of recipes or very big islands and just barely any food! But this game is awesome and has potential! But for alpha this is really great also im happy with this game if it had a manual this would be 9-9/1/2

For a game in alpha, under the ocean is quite good. Its building system is the greatest i've seen in any game, and has more needs/ailments than I can possibly comprehend. The only problem with under the ocean is that it has nothing really in the way of tutorials.

It's a very beautiful game, with a great concept. But, it gives you little direction once you get to land in the beginning of the game. I hoped for a more survival/creation expirience but as of right now there's not much to do. It's alright, sort of relaxing to play but gets old quickly.

don't listen to the negative reviews, they dont understand that just because the dev hasn't updated its progress ON STEAM in 6 months or so, they have a roadmap in-game that is updated every so often, this game is packed with a lot of interesting features, its basically what you always wanted out of a survival game, if you jump of a decently high cliff, you could sprain an ankle or even break a leg, if you stand next to a fire too long you get burned and you can get sick from eating raw food, if you wanna catch a fish, you have to throw spears in the ocean to catch em, the devs put so much effort into making this game, it's unbelievable, i would've payed a lot more than 10 bucks for this game, although it is very fun, it has its quirks, that is why it is in EARLY access and if you cant see that, you shouldn't buy any early access game because you'll just complain about how many glitches the game has. 8/10
