Update 1.7: Devil's Due

Open World

  • Devil’s Tusk which will include a content refresh to match the content model implemented in Coral Forest and Sertao.
  • The level cap has increased to 45.
  • Devil’s Tusk World Event
  • Tensions have escalated in Devil’s Tusk. The Accord has deployed scientists and soldiers around the zone looking for information from this area which housed a pre-Melding weapons research facility. The Chosen and Ophanim are harassing Accord personnel and it’s the ARES Initiative’s job to defend the scientists. This world event works in three phases
  • During the first phase, pilots will find Accord personnel either captured by Chosen or Ophanim (depending whose territory they are found within), or at outposts that need to be defended. These events are scattered throughout the zone. Once a certain amount of events are complete, the second phase will begin.
  • While in the second phase, the Accord will send dropships into the zone in several different specific locations to evacuate the scientists. ARES pilots should defend these sites and evacuate as many scientists as they possibly can before the third phase begins.
  • The U.A.S. Vanguard moves in closer to the Chosen Prison and the Chosen launch an all-out attack on the Accord. There are three sites along the coast of Devil’s Tusk that house Anti-Aircraft guns which ARES Pilots will need to use to take down the Chosen ships attacking the Vanguard. At the same time, a small team of ARES Pilots will need to use dropship transports to infiltrate the Chosen Prison and evacuate the Accord personnel held prisoner there before the Chosen take out the Vanguard. 
  • Note that for 1.7 we have made a change to damage resistances and there will no longer be enemies with damage type resistances. Enemies will still have vulnerabilities to certain damage types. The purpose of this change is to ensure the effect of damage types in combat is a net positive. Players should still be able to maximize their combat effectiveness by selecting the proper weapon damage type against specific enemies, at the same time players are not penalized to use weapons they enjoy.
  • New instanced mission: Homecoming, including Challenge and Hardcore versions.
  • Serkan has driven us out of Blackwater during the Razor’s Edge mission and is continuing his plans to assault the Accord and steal their arcporting technology. Mason, Kara, Fuller, and 35 pursue Serkan in an opportunity to take down the Razorwind leader.
  • A familiar threat, Baneclaw, has returned and has been tuned for platoons of 10 players. Baneclaw is meant to be a level 45 instanced boss fight.
  • Damocles – Assault Prototype Sticky Launcher
  • Fires a projectile which sticks to surfaces and soft targets. After a short duration, the projectile explodes, dealing Melding damage in an area of effect.
  • Plague Doctor – Biotech Prototype Needler
  • Fires projectiles which poison targets on hit, dealing Melding damage over time. If the target dies while poisoned, they will drop a health pack.
  • Omega Perseid – Dreadnaught Prototype AutoBlaster
  • Fires multiple projectiles in a wide spread. This weapon deals high damage at close range.
  • Shadowlance – Recon Prototype Lancer
  • Fires a bolt which penetrates targets and bounces off surfaces.
  • Distant Memory – Engineer Prototype Remote Mine Layer
  • Fires projectiles that stick to surfaces. The alternate fire detonates the mines, dealing Melding damage in an area of effect, or repairing friendly deployables.
  • Abyssal Reach Grenade - Auxiliary Weapon
  • Throw a grenade that triggers on impact, releasing a mist of Melding energy that drags enemies towards itself. After a short duration, the grenade explodes, dealing Melding damage and knocking enemies back.
  • Hardcore campaign level and loot raised to 45

  • Jericho level raised to 45
  • Jericho now rewards Module Credits per round, with increases in Module Credit gains every five rounds.

  • When walking through Copa or other heavy areas in 1.6, especially on higher settings, frame rates are very inconsistent, especially when you turn around quickly. This should now be improved.
  • Minor hitches when walking around should be fixed.
  • The 5-second-hitches should be completely gone. We've addressed some threading issue that could cause starvation of threads.
  • In 1.6, the appearance of UI like tutorial tips or the inventory can cause major hitches up to a few seconds. This should be fixed in 1.7. Textures are loaded in the background.
  • Textures should stream in much more quickly now. The system has been completely redone. You shouldn't notice tiles streaming anymore if you have a decent internet connection, even if you are using a HDD, not an SSD.
  • The view distance of NPCs in towns should be much higher
  • NPCs shouldn't stream in late anymore; you shouldn't be shot by invisible mobs.
  • Better recovery from device reset (changing window size, going fullscreen). Before, textures went black for a while before the game can reload them. Now it should look less broken.
  • Character levels of detail (LODs) are more stable now. Before, you could get into situations where LODs would switch even if you stand still.
  • Improved static geometry storage and streaming. This reduces install size by about 1.6 GB, memory usage by about 70 MB and improves load time. With this and other fixes, problems with out of memory crashes should be improved, albeit possibly not completely fixed.
  • Bought back the radar options from 1.3 (terrain gamma, rotation, zoom etc.) except square radar which would have been hard to get back. In addition, there’s a Combat Zoom option now that zooms the radar in when you are engaged in combat. If you are driving a vehicle at a reasonable speed, the radar will not zoom in, so it won’t affect your navigation.
  • Chat may be viewed from replays and spectator mode
  • Players that have 10 or more Elite Points to spend will skip interface animations.
  • Elite Points can now be spent if a player is not at maximum level and has Elite Points to spend.

Believe it or not, at one point this game was built around arena PVP gameplay that everyone described (lovingly) as TF2 With jetpacks, an active tournament scene and likely the best Arena based PVP i've ever enjoyed in a game.

Then one day they just turned PVP off.

Imagine making TF2 with Jetpacks, and then ending up with a Korean loot grinding MMO solely based around PVE.

It was like playing a game with alzheimer's, it couldn't remember what it was or why people were playing it.

Bugs and other crap everywhere.

This game used to be good back in beta but has slowly diminished into thin air, the development seems to be at an all time low and i currently dont even recommend touching it. There are some game breaking bugs that prevent progression such as the "Crash Down" main mission you're meant to do.
The controls feel fine the movement feels rather solid but at the moment the game has had a lot of the content taken out of it like crafting and thumping, rendering your old materials useless if you've still kept them.

I used to play this game pretty regularily but now i'd say avoid it. It's broken and beyond repair...

Played a while ago, atempted to come back... without success. Multiple login issues, Migration wont work (kick me out every try I do), tryed to re-install, and now I get some really messed up issues. looked around the forum, so many issues around with authentification/login ect... feel overwelm, decided to simply quit and go to another game.

If you're like me and keep waiting for a FPS MMO, this game was perfect. Sadly it's dying, and the lack of support hardly makes up for the free to play price. The number of times you'll come across broken, bugged, or just plain missing content while trying to work through the game are enough to take the fun out, and the list keeps growing. Server outages and login errors are more and more common, and the game just "misplaced" my 42 level character. If you're new to the game like I was, you'll find that most of the google search results are from defunct forums, leaving you to guess at most features/missions.

Despite all the frustrations (and let's not downplay that) I still think that if R5 maintained even a minimal support staff this game could be fun. But in it's current state I can't recommend Firefall as anything but an aggravating endeavor, and the hospice care support means things will only get worse.

They really ♥♥♥♥ed it up when they removed crafting. Completely remove it. "It will be back, but better, in... 1.8 or 1.9 or so".

Yeah, right. At the speed this thing is progressing (1.7 came in April, and nothing since then), we'll get some kind of (♥♥♥♥♥♥, I expect) crafting back in 2017. If we're lucky.

So, my interest died.

Crafting, and especially thumping, was so rewarding. You could just start, and other players (there were other players!) would just join. And vice-versa: you could join anyone who had deployed a thumper, defend it against attacking wildlife, and get a reward too. I loved this form of ad-hoc, sponaneous, low- or even no-barrier teaming. I wish more games would adopt such mechanics.

All that is gone. And will likely (says my inner pessimist) never return.

Other than that you have hardly anything to do.

Just echo'ing what everyone else is saying - Firefall used to be an awesome game, but was 'killed' off in my opinion by the developers taking tyhe game in a direction that was not needed

I played this game for thousands of hours (yes, thousands) completely geared every single character in the game to its max.....then out of nowhere they change the entire system and the literal 1000's of hours I've spent all went away. they compensated me for all my loss with gear for a single character that is obtainable within a day...the game just isn't fun anymore, despite the fact they made my time investment in the game worthless. all of the classes are completely different. this game was going downhill fast after they took out PvP queue (for no reason) and switched to openworld pvp only...where you can divebomb with a hand glider and still get sniped out of the sky by aimbotters that are outside of the max view range

(I have a lot more time logged into the actual client than steam)

this used to be good game.
But company went broke, and tried to get money back by doing some huge game changes..
That went so terrible wrong, last thing we heard is that they want to make the game to consoles as well.

Crafting is gone, was the one really good thing in the game. Now its just grinding for nothing..
People are leaving, inluding me, did this months ago.

MMO without crafting, and items gone missing, andbugs that make the game give you really bad mood.
Have no idea how things could turn out so bad for the company, i know we all spewed tons of money into it. dont believe i was the only one :)

Two years ago this game was marvelous, a large and vibrant open world with interesting missions and an awesome community. That community has been stabbed in the back, entire sections of the game have ceased to work (The first mission after the tutorial for instance), veterans of the game have lost almost if not all of their high levelled battleframes/rigs. With players being unable to partake in the 'story' missions the playerbase has hit rock bottom. Until a later date then the devs and The9 can pull their collective thumbs out of their collective asses there is no point playing this once great game unless you want to witness the death of an MMO

For someone who actually funded the game nearly from the satart I have to say I am severely dissapointed, this started as a great premise, trurned into a work in progress quirky fun game that showed serious potential, then fell appart at the seams. Now it seems that the team working on this game have gone the way of the Dodo Birds and disappeared from the face of the planet; the game is now seriously broken all the way to the main missions glitching (Devils Tusk Broken so that on trying to enter the main mission the game crashes out completely resetting the mission at start). Crafting, special abilities, and more have been so completely reqorked that the original players that put serious time and even money into the crafting part of this game LOST EVERYTHING because they actually REMOVED the crafting system. Seriously, who ever heard of a game that starts with crafting and then removes it completely???? Oh wait, now you can buy the needed upgrades, and that takes time to grind out more, or you can pay for it with moeny in the way of Red Beans, or can you, event that has so many issues it has simply become not worth using. And as mentioned, I was one of the original Funders when the game first launched, buying the best package they offered even before launch, now I feel cheated, left out in the cold, and completely ignored just like the rest of the community that still exists (all 3 or 4 of them that I might see in an hour when trying to play at times) Seriousy, how can something so good go so bad, it is like that super hot girlfirend you got married to just to find out she was actually criminally insane, dangerous and a serial Divorcer looking for the quick cash cow just to cut and run to the next chump that falls for her huge Chimmey Chunga's. No not bitter over this not at all, make sure you get a prenuptual before investinmg ANY time or heaven forbid Money into this title as it stands right now.

I used to play this game back when it was still listed as BETA and I loved how it all worked. Key word here "LOVED". As much as I am open to changes within games I agree with those who had been around before 1.6, I don't much like this change to the game. I used to recomend the game to many but now... That's not going to happen again any time soon unless I see improvment. Sorry to all new players coming here but you missed out on when it was good.

if you like squad and guild based games, this is it. Not only that but the A1 Hauler troop tansport for a complete crew mission taking it to a new level. I love this game.

This game is a prime example of robocrafts future. RIP firefall, and good Riddance. Maybe next time listen to your community. Robocraft devs, if you are reading this, enjoy the prophecy and your future. RIP to you too.

I feel horrible saying this, but all of the other reviews couldn't be more correct. You're going to hear a lot of the same stuff from me compared to all of the other reviews.

Firefall used to be one of the best games I had ever played

It had levels
It had loot
It accommodated so many play styles
It had so many different paths
It even had a full-blown story with side missions
Best of all, this was all free

Then, update 1.6 hit. Like a truck.

Everything that I knew,everything that I had learned, it was all useless.

They added these weird, more advanced levels
They completely reworked every single frame (class) in the game, so everything played differently
They temporarily removed, then reworked the crafting system
They compeltely changed the leveling system, so that you had to stick with a class all the way to half level, so once you chose, you were stuck with it

I can't express how disappointed I am from this change, and all of the other Firefall vets/Pre-1.6'ers know what I mean

If you're considering this game now, I'm sorry to say that you're too late

RIP Firefall, it was fun while it lasted

Got this game back in closed beta and bought one of the founders packs long before it got added to steam. Then, I would have recommended it, now, it got utterly destroyed by asians. No, im not racist towards asians, but god they cant make MMO's for ♥♥♥♥. The original company, RED5, sold it and now its your stereotypical asian style mmo complete with grinding the same repetitive missions, once you hit the level cap of 45, you get a new level system with no cap. The got rid of the awesome crafting system to put in the whole "chance upgrading" thing that you have to buy things off the cash shop to increase its success rate. I come back after 6 months and now it has those stupid ♥♥♥ chests you get as a reward and you have to by the key to open in from the cash shop. This game screams "♥♥♥♥ asian cash grab MMO" now.

Its free to play and the story (thats change like 6 times) is fun to go through, the world looks awesome and the sounds are great so i dont thing you;d lose anything playing if you dont have anything else to do, just dont spend money on it or try to sink alot of time into it.

(One of the greatest MMO F2Ps IMHO)

I played since before steam release and It's one of those Free to play that keeps me playing for hours without standing up and taking a break, I still Remember PVP, one of the Best arena based PVP there is, It's sad to see almost no one is playing this game now and it breaks my heart.

The Idea was Simple

a F2P quasi-Open world game where you try to fight Diff types of unique enemies,Do thumping,Collect resources ,Collect cool weapon loot, Push back Invasions, LVL up , do random World Bosses and Upgrade your character, it's fun, simple and addicting, sure it gets boring at some point but What game doesn't?

I really Hope the Devs decides to revive this game, I still love it and I always will but Until Then...Good Bye Fire Fall you had a Great Run.

Firefall has had its ups and downs over the past 4 or 5 years, but it's still hanging in there and has always been fun! I do recommend trying it.

Got on the game, boring tutorial. Unable to play campaign (warcom) for a week since they don't fix it. Bad servers. Enough said.
