About This Software

"The World’s Best Budgeting Program" – The Internet

With a cult following the world round, You Need A Budget (YNAB), helps you take total control of your money. The results are life-changing and include breaking the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle, paying down debt, and saving more money faster – not to mention a good night’s sleep.

You’ve Never Budgeted Like This Before

The You Need A Budget software is clean and beautiful. Where other software packages suffer from years of feature creep, YNAB offers you exactly what you need: a simple, straightforward system to manage your money. But what makes it so powerful are YNAB’s Four Rules:

  • Rule 1: Give Every Dollar A Job
  • Rule 2: Save for a Rainy Day
  • Rule 3: Roll with the Punches
  • Rule 4: Learn to Live on Last Month’s Income

Show Your Money Who’s Boss

YNAB has a high-touch customer support team, a library of video tutorials, and offers free, live daily classes. With YNAB there is no reason why you can’t get rid of your debt, save for the future and finally insert that thing you've been wanting to do but you've been just too lazy to save for. No more excuses.

I used to use this software last year, It was totally worth it when I was going through college and help me see where my money was going. When they switched to the New YNAB on the internet, it made things much easier. 10/10 for both, but they will quit doing updates on the desktop version at the end of the year

I bought this on sale. Don't remember how much but for sure between $15-$30 It's great and does everything I need. As for the subcription based YNAB, you don't have to upgrade or buy that one if you don't want to. You can continue to use YNAB 4, the desktop client. The only downside to that is that you won't be receiving anymore updates. You will still receive technical support though. I see nothing wrong with YNAB 4 and if I didn't have it already, I would definitely buy it before it's gone since i'm not interested in paying yearly for an app. I plan to use YNAB 4 for the rest of my life, unless they come out with another one time purchase app.

"We’ll officially support YNAB 4 through 2016 (which means we’ll fix critical bugs and make sure the apps work well), and unofficially, for as long as possible. And you can always write in with questions!"

This Application is Amazing. It has helped me from living from paycheck to paycheck to saving up for the next month. Most people Negging this application are mad a bout the subscription fee on the new YNAB. However the only difference that matters between the two is whether you want to have to manually import your transactions from desktop to mobile. It hasnt bothered me yet so I plan to use it for the next 4 years or until i can afford to do the subscription.

If you want to get out of the paycheck to paycheck cycle this is the app for you.

If they were going into a subscription model then it should have been a seperate entity and not claiming to replace YNAB 4. In the way of supporting the developer's I get going into a subscription model to keep it monetarily viable to support. Yet, with so many programs and utilities going into an annual fee these days it seems completely backwards to add yet Another annual fee for a program designed to try to manage and Save money. I fear that the desktop YNAB 4 will become less then viable going forward and cannot trust it will be supported as promised when the mentioned NEW YNAB desktop app becomes available. I will continue to use it, but cannot recommend buying it now.

Don´t buy this software... The creators decided to move away from a pc software to a web-based solution with subscription fees....

In my opinion, this is a step into the false direction..

Lots of people are talking about the new model that YNAB are moving to. This is fine. However, ignore them. This software will remain and it is still packed to the brim with useful features. It seems to be getting updates too.

I do not use it to 'budget' per se, but it allows me to keep tabs on my business expenditure. I don't know what I would do without it.

The old software version is great, but the new online subscription.. not so much. It is not that the online is bad per se. It is because a budget is a private matter, not something you want to entrust to a company that could theoretically be hacked at any time. From a business perspective it is downright hazardous.. dangerous even. And to think what would happen if that data were to be corrupt due to a hacker is unthinkable. I'm talking bankruptcy.. or worse.

By moving away from the offline client offering.. they send a clear and resounding message, that they don't care about companies. They want to focus only on the average joes home economy (note: I don't care how safe they claim their online offering is. I have to assume is possible to hack.. one way or another) Which is fine by itself, because if they don't made enough money from that other group? Fine! But even though you for the most part would be safer from damage in that sense, it still means there is a danger. Especially if you are a home business.

I cannot in good conscience recommend the new online subscription offering. I can however recommend the old offline client. Even though it will recieve no further updates. And this recommendation is for this windows old client version only.

Used this program for quite some time and have been perfectly happy with it.

Even when it got ditched in favour of a subscription model I was still pleased, it still did what I needed.

Now though, ever since a small update a few days ago it's removed the ability to import QIF files properly as it kicks up an invalid date area every time I upload. So now instead of uploading a downloaded file from my bank, i.e. really simple process. I can only manually type in every transaction which considering the time it takes, makes this software pretty much trash - if that was what I wanted to do I'd be using an excel sheet. One of the major benefits of the tool just gone.

Edit: Clarify the issue with QIFs.

They're moving away from this. The creators are looking to charge a subscription fee for a web-based system. Instead of purchasing desktop software once, they want to charge the cost of desktop software every year and provide a website.

No thanks. I won't be using their subscription, and I recommend you don't either.

You're paying the same cost yearly , instead of buying it. Just not worth it and not going to support money grab.

This program changed my life.

[+] Easy to use. Incentivizes money management. Helped me eliminate all debt, manage several accounts and save tons of money.

[-] Won\'t be supported for much longer. There\'s now a subscription-based version of the program which I am not too keen on using.
