Before you begin to associate this game with the common traits of the current simulation genre (with things such as farming simulator etc), throw those assumptions away. This is a true simulator. It is utterly fantastic at what it does. The difference in driving a truck without any trailer and driving one with a trailer threw me off at first - I could feel the weight difference in the turning, in the steering and the acceleration. It's left me with a weird feeling that I would want to be a truck driver.
The leveling system is fast enough to feel progress but slow enough to give length to the game as well. Setting yourself goals is a very fun exercise, and completing your bigger goals feels incredibly rewarding. From starting up to running a large business with several employees is very rewarding in its own right, and after a while you can simply drive and appreciate the simulation for its accuracy.
This is not to say the game doesn't have its fair share of flaws. Sometimes you'll feel that the variety of cargo is a little small, especially at the start when the things you're highly leveled in are going to be the only things you want to carry on a trailer to get the most money. The AI can be a little frustrating and the controls with a physical controler (such as the 360 pad) aren't exactly great. But, if you can get into a game with good depth and very good simulated physics and driving, I'm sure you'll love ETS2.
But be warned - your friends will look at you a bit weirdly when you say you're enjoying driving a virtual truck across Europe.
