Public beta of Euro Truck Simulator 2 update 1.14 is available

At last, we are happy to announce that we are ready to start public beta test of update 1.14 for Euro Truck Simulator 2.

If you are willing to help, make sure to backup your existing player profile, and feel free to switch to the public_beta branch of Euro Truck Simulator 2 which you will find on Steam. Please use our forum to give us feedback and comments. Although we have tested the update vigorously over several internal builds in the past weeks, practice shows that during an open beta period usually even more problems are discovered and fixed. We strive to make the game updates as polished as possible. Thanks for your support and help!

Here is the short changelog of the 1.14 update. Full update notes can be found in our Steam hub.

  • Liftable axles
  • Speed limit shown on dashboard GPS
  • Truck browser shows all upgrades and their level requirements
  • Increased damage for overturned vehicles
  • Higher penalties for damaged cargo (both xp and money)
  • Camera rotation based on steering and blinkers
  • Traffic improvement
Steam and online services
  • Steam Rich Presence: job information in "View more info" in the Steam friends list (example)
  • Screenshot images contain additional metadata (game state, vehicle, camera)
  • Upload your World of Trucks profile truck from the in-game Screenshot Manager
  • New truck: DAF XF Euro 6
  • Added three new 6-wheeled chassis for (almost) all trucks
  • Substantial data fixes in most chassis
  • New cargo definition structure
  • Per-sector weather climate profiles
  • Goto console command now accepts city names or their fragments (eg "goto aber" teleports camera to Aberdeen)

1.14 update news and across the desert in American Truck Simulator

Euro Truck Simulator 2 team is working hard on finalizing of ETS2 1.14 update. Stabilization of this large update had been our focus for several weeks already.

The development team's long-term assignment is very challenging. We are not just "patching" the game with bug fixes two full years after its release. We are committed to bringing you significant improvements every couple of months. That's why we prefer to call new game version releases "updates" rather than "patches".

For every update release, we need to hit a moment in time when we have a stable and as much as possible bug-free combination of game data and source code. Our team may work on 10+ major features in parallel, yet for a given game update we usually decide that just two or three of them are already mature enough for publishing. The rest needs to stay hidden from public eyes until it's ready. However, the priorities of finalizing, bug fixing, and polishing of the particular features picked for an update and working on "future stuff" in parallel are quite contradictory and really hard to follow at the same time and within the same asset database and game source code. To release an update, ideally everything should be in the "freeze" mode to minimize the danger of introducing new bugs. But "freeze" is the enemy of progress - we cannot stop working on "future stuff" for too long if we want to see good progress on major features or optimizations that often require half a year or more of dedicated time.

We still haven't found an ideal solution to this problem of trying to focus both on short term incremental improvements and on long term "big picture" evolution. It may be frustrating for the dev team at times, and it may also be frustrating for you, the players, as you have to wait longer for game updates. But we are doing what we can, and we hope that the string of future updates and releases coming from SCS Software's labs will justify a little bit of frustration. ;)

So anyway, we feel that we are very close to releasing the public beta of 1.14 update for ETS2! We will do it with the help of Steam's back-end just as during the previous public betas. The feedback loop from a public beta is really very useful in the final stages before an official release. We'd rather not promise any particular release dates, but the ambition is "days" rather than "weeks".

In case you have missed the new ETS2 update 1.14 features we had mentioned here in the announcements earlier, they include tag-lift truck axles and finally the new DAF Euro 6 truck.

Meanwhile, the American Truck Simulator team is never ceasing to work. There is grumbling that we don't pay enough attention to their project in the announcements. So let us wrap up the long and heavy rant post with a couple of screenshots of American desert setting from American Truck Simulator to cheer you up on the weekend...

“There are titles in the simulation market which can be sold on the novelty factor alone, but tend to be disappointing games. Euro Truck Simulator 2 is not one of them, it is strangely cathartic, engaging and relaxing.”

My girlfriend didn't get why I loved this game.

Said I was a loser and a weirdo.

So I built my transport company into a million dollar empire just to show her what I'm capable of.

I haven't heard from her for a while.

just gonna put this here first so people don't need to read it all: I give this game 4 out of 5.

coming from games in my youth like, football manager, etc. This game sort of felt like, the more and more I got into it, the more it was a "manager" kinda game.
Your goals is to obtain garages and trucks, pretty much owning everything, this doesn't fit my definition of a simulator and that might be because I see a simulator being more of a simulation of how it would be to drive around in a truck and do trucker stuff, do not get me wrong this was still good fun as it also reminded me of manager games where I simply just wanted to own everything.

that being said, when I bought the game I was expecting a simulator kinda of game but it was not at least it was not for me that is, hence why I wont give it 5 out 5 but 4 out 5 however that doesnt mean I found this game to be bad.

Some stuff i did not like:
Some lights fx in paris did not work at all, probably was like that in some other cities aswell.
(had to wait forever untill I realized I would not get a ticket if I had just crossed it anyway)

the "you are driving in the wrong lane" ticket "100 euro" was also weird because you could alone on the road and no one near you and still get that ticket made no sense to me how anyone would know that.

i believe i saw some signs being off like usually at some detours u will get a recommended speed "dangerous to go faster than 40" sign but the sign was just a regular dont driver more than 40.

the whole map I agree the surroundings were amazing and very nicely done but come on.. the same detours ... the same bridges (i even think I saw at one point a airplane landing on a detour above me..) the whole thing just felt like driving the same path over and over which kinda made me a bit sad because once I did get into the "manager" role and where I wanted to have it all, every job just became so tedious because, I had seen it all before, the roads, the detours.. not to mention the "cities" themselves.. just looked like a copy paste.

my first instinct when I owned my first garage without any debt, was to make the days go faster and to begin with I would just sleep all the time untill it told me I could not sleep anymore.
I figured out a way to make the days go really fast and that was to buy another garage and just quick travel back and fourth apparently it cost me 0 money to travel I found that odd because nor did I lose gas or money it and my day went faster so my income got in "faster" i am not sure if that is intended but I did that a few times between Liverpool-> Rostock = 100k euro profit over night and then from Rostock -> Liverpool = another 100k euro profit.

things I would love to see in ETS3 :

- genuine map overall (google maps)
- actually cities doesn't need to be detailed I know how much work goes into it but something more decent or at least something that resembles the actual city you are in.
- driving license for the truck something like when I was younger I played Gran Turismo back on my ps1 i think and you would had to take driving licenses to the appropriate cars, you coud do the same with the amount of weight you gonna transport not sure how it really works but I guess you get the idea.
- actually simulate a truckers life, daily bills, food etc (there were non what so ever besides the "sleep")
- and keep the manager kinda thing alive it was really fun trying to own every garage in England.

NOTE: do not think I only played 13 hours clearly it hasn't counted my offline hours.

At I laughed, I mocked the virtual truckers. I mean, who wants to sit around and drive a virtual truck? me
Now however, I laugh, and mock those who don't sit around and drive a virtual truck. Get it, and be sucked into a never ending obsession of delivering cargo all over Europe.

Not a game I normally would play, yet somehow I am playing it, and it's stupidly, mystifyingly, inexplicably good. Well, I *can* explain it, actually -- the developers clearly care about the quality of their product enough to pack it full of crazy detail in pretty much every aspect of the game. The environments are ridiculously beautiful, the weather patterns are a joy to see in action, the trucks are shiny and gorgeous (and customizable), the driving is challenging *and* fun, and there's also a business management game built into all of that. Pretty cool.

So yeah.

More fun than you'd expect.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 Review!

Well where to Start with this game!

I've played this game since day one, even before it hit the steam release with over 1000 hours. The game itself unmodded provides great entertainment if you enjoy to just relax at your computer and just drive. If you're wanting a great simulation aspect, this game can deliver on many levels and provide simulation like the real thing!

Speaking of modding, this game provides a massive range of modding features to improve and drastically extend your gameplay, I personally play a modded game most of the time, as I've expereince most of the game and what it offers in the unmodded version, but to this day mods still make the game very fresh and new to play!

Overall I would recommend this game to anyone that enjoys driving games, with a very open aspect to modding. The graphics are beautiful and are very eye appealing, but another good thing is that the specs aren't too high to play the game!

Do you like trucks? Have you ever wanted to transport stuff around Europe? Well, lucky for you (unless you're from somewhere other than Europe, but I don't really care), ETS2 has all the trucks you'd want to drive around in! The reskins of DLC are cool too! However, there is quite a big flaw in this game. Once you buy a paint job, you cannot keep it, meaning you must pay for it again. 8/10

Driving trucks around Europe seems pretty boring, right? Wrong.

ETS2 has become somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me, being someone who loves driving. The game offers up a solid rendition of a scaled-down version of most of Europe to roam while mastering the skill of hauling tons upon tons of cargo. The game engine is powered by a fairly accurate physics engine and detailed graphics, and achieves an overall feeling of realism that is on par with some of the best. Think of it almost like a "Free Drive" racing game, except you have to follow the rules of the road, and trucks provide more of a challenge to drive.

There are several real-world trucks with seemingly endless customization options, and a diverse pool of trailers and cargo types to avoid repetition between deliveries. Completing deliveries rewards you with experience points and cash, which both add progression in the form of unlocking new trucks, cargo and customization options, and being able to grow your business by buying more trucks and garages, and by hiring drivers.

All in all, ETS2 is a pretty relaxing way to kill some time, and an extremely detailed simulation.

This game is suprisingly good for a simulation.

Could the graphics be better? Yes. The cabs are highly detailed though with working gauges and lights. Outside scenery is a little lacking then you come across something that blows you away. A boat in the harbor, a lighthouse, an old manor.

Could the AI drivers be less annoying? Yes but then it would loose some of it's charm.

Picking the right loads and delivering them on time without racking up a ton of fines/damage is a real challange.

Going from left hand drive to right hand drive countries will keep you on your toes.

Being able to stream European radio is a huge plus to the immersion and really interesting. Tons of stations to choose from. Want to stream your own music? Go ahead the Dev's included a way to do that as well.

Overall good game for those that like trucks and trucking.

I have bought ETS2 through another site, so my playtime is not accurate. This will be a review from my own perspective. My opinion is not a subject to approval. In this review, I will use 10 different categories, each having 10 points. At the end of the review, I will sum these points up.

In Euro Truck Simulator 2, you control a truck driver, who slowly climbs up the career path and eventually runs a huge company, OR goes bankrupt in the process. You can customize your truck, give your driver a name, and so on. Anything you would want to customize in a truck simulator, is there. The game is very fun and playable in general. It's a great game if you want to relax after or before work/school. You can also level up in various fields!

Gameplay score - 10/10

The game features very realistic truck sounds, and I have no complaints about those. You can hear the rain, thunderstorm, etc. But the biggest flaw I noticed is that I don't hear the AI cars/trucks passing by. It might be a problem with either my sound card or settings, but if I am wrong, I will update my review when I figure out how it really is.

Sound score - 9/10

As a game developer myself, I do understand that if the point of the game is functionality, then of course graphics must be put to second, or latter place. Therefore, the graphics and animations for ETS2 are as good as they should be for a truck simulator. I'd really give 11 points here if it only was not against my rules!

Graphics score - 10/10

My first hours were of course quite difficult to understand the controls. But what helped the the most are the manual and the online ETS2 guide. Thanks to those, I learned the controls and how to play this game really quickly. The developers put their thought into this and for that, I salute them. I don't remember if there was a tutorial, I think there was... I'll check when I get back home.

Difficulty score - 10/10

There is a huge variety of landscape, trucks, A.I. cars/trucks, buildings, and everything I would expect this game to have. There are lots of upgrades to choose from. The developers did a great job on that part. The only bad thing which stands out to me the most is probably the people walking on the streets of the cities. Yeah. There are none. But hey, it's a driving game, and maybe the developers decided not to include pedestrians in order to either optimize the game, or invest more time on more important things like trucks/landscape.

Variety score - 9.5/10

I haven't really played any other truck simulators in the past, so I'll just put a full 10 here.

Originality score - 10/10

The economic/business management part of this game, however could be improved much more. There's really not much you can micromanage. You can't negotiate with your employees about salary, you can't promote them(only level them up). You can't enter how much you really want to take from the bank. There are no competitors, even if you see the actual A.I. trucks driving on the road. However, the economic part of the game is still playable, I'm not saying it's not. It's just that tycoon-maniacs like me might find this as a huge flaw.

Economy score - 5/10

The AI in this game is really well developed. It, however, still behaves strangely sometimes - the cars sometimes don't follow the road rules, sometimes they glitch out. But overall, the AI just about right.

A.I. score - 8/10

Like i stated before, the controls are well-accessible, and are easly to learn and customize. You can even use a wheel with pedals, pretty much what all driving games offer, right? Perfect controls.

Controls score - 10/10

Price vs. Quality
The game is 20 euros. It is too low. Should be 40, or 50! Buy it before it raises! You will not regret it!

Price vs. Quality score - 10/10

Overall score - 91.5/100

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a truck driving simulator, it contains some European cities and roads. You can work for an employer or your own truck, recruit drivers and buy new trucks or upgrade your trucks using money earned by completing deliveries, which involve picking up a load then driving to it's destination and parking the trailer. There is also a multiplayer mod, so you can start a convoy with other drivers and develop your own trucking company. I would recommend the game to anyone who likes trucks or driving games, there are also DLCs which give you new cities, loads and truck customization.

Perfect truck simulator.
(With a direction and an Oculus Rift had been top for best experience / reality).
SCS Software create a simulator bus also (Other simulators bus of other developers are not very good).

After 7 hours playing this game, i was about ready to give up my career as a European Truck Simulator 2.

But then something magical happened.
I inadvertently pressed the 'R' key whilst driving, and discovered radio.

Radio Gothic from the Czech Republic saved me.
Blaring songs about god knows what in some bork bork language reinvigorated my will to drive trucks in Europe.

Thank you based Radio Gothic/10
