No Time To Explain Progress Report

June 3rd, 2014

There's a lot cooking around No Time To Explain.

  • MrFuby is working on remastering the soundtrack at 320kbps

  • This means reworking some of the songs from ground up, using slightly different instruments
  • Will update the current soundtrack and be put into new Unity remake of the game

  • Unity remake is going slow but steady - ETA this year
  • Most of standard levels ported to Unity
  • Enabled local multiplayer support
  • Going to replicate all current levels of NTTE in this build
  • Going to reimagine all scripted levels, including boss fights and the flying/running levels
  • When done, will expand content

Game will have more content, release on Steam replacing the current game; and release on Xbox One

Soundtrack out on Steam + Unity updates

May 1st, 2014

Hi everyone!

Today we released the No Time To Explain soundtrack on Steam.

Get it here

There are 17 tracks in total and they will appear in your No Time to Explain game folder.

Right now the whole dev team at tinyBuild is busy working on reimagining No Time to Explain within Unity. We demo's the first prototype at PAX East and the response was very, very good. Several people came over who beat the game in it's current state and noted how much more fun it is.

The remade version will be a reimagining of No Time To Explain. We will add more content, redo bosses, and more.

  • Controller support
  • Runs at 250fps
  • Real hardware acceleration (via Unity)
  • Reimagined bosses
  • More content!

The game will be called NO MORE TIME TO EXPLAIN and everyone who currently owns the current version will get the updated one :)

- Alex

Good premise, interesting story and gameplay, but just really really badly put together game. You have to move your mouse quickly, often around the edges of the screen, but it doesn't lock the mouse to the window. In full screen mode, if you have multiple monitors, you'll often find yourself clicking outside the game, causing it to minimize. Windowed mode is practically unplayable.

The resolution selector is just a set of -/+ buttons - you have to sit there clicking +, with the screen flashing until you think you've got the right resolution (it doesn't tell you).

The icing on the cake is that while 95% of the levels are fun, 5% of them are incredibly tedious and will probably make you ragequit.

It's a nice concept marred by horrible execution: the game runs in Flash (with all the terrible framerate issues that entails), is poorly optimized, legitimately breaks if you're playing in windowed mode, and even basic mechanics fail to work on occasion. While the writing is genuinely funny, and the gameplay fun in concept, please do not support such shoddy execution with your money.

No Time to Explain started life as a short flash game playing around with the same idea as this title has at the start. For its retail release, however, No Time has been fleshed out to a huge degree, packing a ton more highly diverse levels and a number of challenges, plus lots of completionist items to find. There’s a high degree of variety here, and while between chapters the game can sometimes feel completely different from what players were previously experiencing, it’s all held together by underpinnings of common mechanics. The variety in the levels is what makes No Time to Explain so much fun. Where No Time really excels is in humor. It’s bubbling over with craziness, whether it’s the painful screams of your future self or the themes of the various stages. All that positive outlook aside, my time with No Time was fraught with serious bugs and technical issues. The one that plagued me most was a graphical glitch concerning your aiming cursor for the laser cannon.I hit a second almost-game-breaking bug later in the game during one of the boss fights, where I couldn’t trigger a win condition. That said, No Time is fun and very funny, and often its platform design is intelligent as well as fresh and challenging. At its small price, I’d say that it’s worth the gamble that bugs won’t crop up.

Positives:
+ Great art style
+ Humourous Storyline
+ Challenging levels
+ User Created Content
+ Good Overall Length

Negatives:
- Technical Issues on Windows 7 / 8
- No Gamepad Support
- Framerate issues on higher resolutions
- A few levels are too difficult which can hault player progress
- Bosses seem to be too easy
- No health system, so when you get "damaged" it seems pointless

Overall, a pretty good platformer, that I'd recommend to those who enjoy games of this genre.
Time to Complete the Game: ~2-3 hours
Recommended Price: ~$2.50-5.00
