Local co-op confirmed for No Time remake

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share some great news. We've been going back and forth on it, but eventually agreed - local co-op is super fun, and No Time To Explain's remake is getting it!

Local co-op

We were able to beat the game start to finish last friday during the livestream (we livestream every friday at 4pm CET at http://twitch.tv/tinybuild )

You spawn with up to 4 players, and play the levels together. Whoever gets to the portal first - scores a point. It is fun insanity with beams going everywhere.

In levels where you have insta-respawn disabled (mostly levels with breakable blocks), multiplayer works in the same way - everyone gets one chance, and if the last person dies, the level resets.

Bosses will now have lives

The remake will have lives for boss fights. You can respawn up to 3 times before the levels restart.

This adds actual challenge to the bosses, and makes the game more interesting. Now you actually have to master the beam and dodge incoming attacks.

New music

MrFuby did a fantastic job at reimagining the soundtrack, and the main game will get some new tracks. The full OST will also get updated.

ETA

Right now the game's 90% done - we are missing the flier and runner levels, which are coming in shortly.

What remains after that is integration with Steam, specifically - the level editor. That hasn't been redone yet, and I believe it's a crucial part of the game.

Expect a Steam release early next year

No Time To Explain at EGX London! Plus updates.

The latest version of No Time To Explain's upcoming remake will be playable at EGX London this weekend in the Rezzed area!

Stop by, say hi, play the game :)

Controller support!

It will be controller-enabled and gives you an idea of how we want all versions to control. Putting it simply, you control it with just the dual-sticks.

Left stick to run around. Click to jump.

Right stick to beam yourself around. Click to use shotgun guy's/alternate guys' abilities.

Reworked visuals!

The game has some reworked visuals. It took some effort to transform everything from Flash to Unity, but we're nearly there.

Things like the crab boss fight having physics-enabled flame bombs, lots of snow particles, really nice fog particles in the spaceship levels.

The game also runs at a solid.... 250fps? At least on my machine.

Reworked soundtrack

MrFuby has been busy reworking the soundtrack and came up with some insanely good songs. Some are completely original, some are remastered versions of previous songs.

Current status of the game

- As of right now, all standard levels are done. Standard levels are the ones with the "normal" beam guy character.

- Shotgun guy levels are done.

- 1st boss (Crab fight) is done

- 2nd boss (Shark) is done

Everything up until the 2nd boss is demo'd at EGX.

We still need to do all the other bosses, the special characters, the two scripted levels (flight and runner). The good news is that the engine is now done, and it even supports multiplayer.

See you at EGX!

The gameplay is fun and varied, weapons sfx make them feel powerful, the setting is hilarious, the software itself is trash, the work overall shows extreme lack of polish.

If you dont mind you may get it and try to play it despite its bugs and issues. I dont recommend it at full price despite how cheap it is.

This game deserved better programming. Issues include very low-low fps, hiccups (garbage collector i guess), freezes (not at critical points though), some gameplay issues that can be forgiven but include checkpoints that respawn you at impossible positions, collision issues (hitbox and navigation), bad audio options (some sounds are not affected by volume controls for instance), some menu options dont save between sessions, they even get reset during execution, some cutscenes can't be skipped. Regarding obvious lack of polish, for example, one achievement requires beating a time limit displayed on screen, the time limit is wrong, wrong total count of level secrets (i.e. it says 2, it's actually 3), etc, There are even images that dont belong being displayed on top of the game scene and cutscenes, taking space and looking ugly in general (are the devs blind?).

Game difficulty is mixed, but easy overall. Plenty of hits just stun you, but the rest kill you in one hit, yet you have infinite continues and the game keeps checkpoints dynamically so you never have to replay more than a couple of seconds. This means most of the game is easy... yet in a few areas of the game you will have to complete the entire level in one go, just because (diabetes world, mole boss, aura of fire evil clone are some areas you will have to step up your game).

Plays with speakers on full volume. *Door opens, mother walks in. Clone loudly exclaims "MY RIBS ARE IN MY EYES!" *pauses game and swings chair around.

Mother:
"What is this?"

Me:
"There’s no time to explain!" *jumps out of chair and dances out onto the street, proudly spamming the mic. button.

I decided to buy this Newgrounds flash port and give it a try when it was showcased at PAX Prime and when it got the recommendation of Markiplier.

After slightly above 10 minutes of gameplay, it became pretty obvious that this game is a complete piece of trash and I've got no interest in subjecting myself to anymore of this half-baked and unpolished game. Here are some pros and cons...

Pros:
•There is a tinge of humour which actually made me chuckle once or twice.

•The cartoonish art style is pretty good.

•Weapons seem powerful with the FX that the game inplements.

•The soundtrack is decent.

Cons:
•The game lacks polishing with bugs and crashes popping up ever so often.

•Extremely low FPS despite my build having more than enough VRAM and processing power which is stated in the -requirements.

•Freezes ever so often and "graphic intensive" parts, especially boss fights.

•The only penalty for dying is a 2 second respawn delay which in some cases will respawn you in a solid object, forcing you to restart the level.

•Horrible hitbox detection on enemies, destroyable blocks and such.

•A +/- resolution changer which DOES NOT have any effect on the horrible FPS... Wait seriously?

•Some achievement do not have the correct requirements stated on them.

•All the levels are trial and error.

•Most if not all of the artwork is reused, creating a very repeated atmosphere which is not at all enjoyable.

•Controls are mediocre at best. The "laser jetpack" at the first few levels completely killed it for me.

•Completely out of place images above the height limit etc. Devs, are you actually blind or simply decided not to give a s**t?

•The pointer is not locked in the game, so windowed mode players beware. You'll find yourself having to alt-tab back into the game more than you would when switching tabs of porn and schoolwork when your parents are home.

All in all, I do not recommend this game if it's price stays anything above 1 USD.That's around the amount of $ you make selling the card drops. It's a F2P game that somehow managed to get a $4 pricetag slapped on it. Do not buy unless you like fighting with the lag/controls instead of playing with the actual game.

No Time to Explain is a game that grew from being a flash game in Newgrounds, to a full fledged game on Steam.

This is one of those games that will bring you on a two-hour crazy ride, or make you throw it across the room and forget about it after an additional two hours of retrying.

Since the beginning of the game, I was brought into one of the most absurd world and storyline, which kept me guessing and wanting more, like a hungry hobo at a hotdog eating contest.

The whole game was a huge epic rollercoaster ride with very lax rules and penalty in terms of dying, which made the game absolutely great for casually, as it is a casual game. Though there are several issues that turn the entire Sunday picnic into every picnicker's nightmare: A hellish ant infestation. I am unaware whether the creator ever received note from other players, but the game has an odd difficulty curve like none other.

As I have mentioned before about the game being a casual one, to which, did play as so for a while, until I reached the mutant stage. Before the aforementioned stage, I did perfectly well with all of the stages, and could pass through them in a decent timeframe, as the difficulty curve was proper. The game introduced new mechanics and obstacles slowly as you went through, for there is always a buffer stage where you can spend the time to get used to said things before it decides to throw a curve ball at you. Batting those curve balls made you feel good. Really good.

Once I arrived at the mutant stage, one particular area, which I have uploaded a screen shot of, I could not get through for the life of me. That very stage took nearly half of my total game time to complete.
Look, there is a reason why play-testing exists; if there is a particular area that does not seem too friendly to the keyboard-mouse-eye coordination challenged people like me, and that such area has an apparent longer average completion time, there is probably something wrong with the design.

I am pretty sure that something went wrong during the making of that level. I became so frustrated with that stage that I had to challenge it on seperate occasions in order to not be overwhelmed by the accumulating heat in my kettle of anger and explode.

Everything else in my opinion is perfectly fine, despite the awkward controls (though I do understand this is part of the challenge itself), this game gave me a great 2.6 hours of gameplay. The point mentioned above, I am willing to ignore, as it only makes up a small chip of a gorgeous jewel, and I would recommend it to any who appreciates its whackiness and absurdity.

TL;DR:
This game is insane, and I absolutely love it. Buy it.

No Time to Explain

Awesome game, its has been updated with new levels and content.
Fun story with many worlds to play in.
it looks like Super Meat Boy, but it focus on mouse control rather than keyboard only.
BUT THIS GAME IS VERY BUGY AND RUNS IN CUTSCENES ON 8 FPS.
I hope this game will be patched.

Oh, and it's got spontaneous bouts of lag to boot.

No Time to Explain is a awesome, very creative and unique platformer experience. NTE will make you laugh til your sides hurt with its witty dialogue throughout. Dont let all the hilarious whacky stuff in the game throw you off, NTE is challenging and sometimes it makes you want to pull your hair out. Take my word for it, if you do not own this game give it a try, it is well worth the money. :) :)

Surprisingly fun, all things considered. I played the original No Time to Explain flash game when it was still fresh, and honestly found it to be pretty boring. And truth be told, I'm very critical of games on Steam that seem like they'd be better suited to Kongregate or my phone (Snuggle Truck, I'm looking at you). All that said, I really enjoyed this much more fleshed out version of No Time to Explain, and it gets a pass from me as a game that fits right in in my Steam library.

When No Time begins, you're minding your own business, dancing like a dork in your living room. When without warning, a version of you from the future appears, states the game's title, and is promptly grabbed by the giant, mutant crab that smashes through the side of your house. Future you drops his... rectangle thing. This gun (as it turns out) shoots a blue beam which delivers enough thrust to propel you when wielded properly, and just happens to be the core mechanic of the game. You run out across the hills, jumping through portals to different times and dimensions, defeat the crab, and rescue your future self. And the game is underway.

The thrust gun takes a little getting used to. I've heard complaints about the physics behind it, but honestly I never had much trouble controlling it. Just gotta point in the right direction, and remember to jump and thrust at the sameish time for maximum lift. You'll get the hang of it, soon enough.

The overall difficulty of the game jumps around. There are some parts which are rather frustrating, but luckily you can start over right where you just were most of the time. Respawning is weird in this game. Typically you reappear standing on the last safe surface you were on before you died. This can make some boss fights laughably easy as you stand in place dying repeatedly but instantly respawning in the same exact place as you fire your gun continuously at the weak point. At times, though, you can die in ways which will restart the level. This typically happens on the more puzzle-oriented stages, or when you stay on fire or sizzling with acid for too long. Stage-reset deaths are featured in certain boss fights, as well, so you'd better figure out the tricks to staying alive if you hope to make it through.

The thing I love most about No Time is that it's constantly trying to reinvent its gameplay. Sometimes this just involves a new mechanic, like catching yourself on fire to burn down barriers, or flying along blasting dinosaurs in a shoot 'em up segment. Sometimes it involves completely replacing that central thrust gun mechanic. In one memorable bit, your thrust gun is replaced with a powerful shotgun. In another, you have no gun and must use psychic powers to fling yourself along. My favorite part is the "video games are art" dimension, and I'll leave it to you to wonder what that's all about.

The humor is decent enough. The game is weird, the plot manic, and the characters lovably un-self-aware. There are a great number of hats to collect across probably most of the game's levels, ranging from basic, to silly, to bizarre, to completely nonsensical. These are usually more than just a simple hat, often transforming your head entirely. Hats offer no gameplay advantage, but the variety is such that I'm always excited to see what a new one turns out to be. Some are pretty well hidden, or tough to get to, too. So they offer decent replayability, if you decide you gotta catch 'em all.

I had fun. At the time of this writing, though, the game is actually really glitchy. I encountered numerous glitches on my way through. None game-breaking, but some strange visual errors and general choppiness cropped up now and then. As I hear it, this is because the devs are in the process of updating the game and transferring it to a new engine. This update will be free to anyone who already owns this version of the game, which is nice. So it's up to you whether you want to grab it cheap now and have the new version when it comes out, or just wait and get the update. But I do recommend one of the above.

I find the KB&M config annoying for this game. I like the puzzels and challenges, but when my mouse gets too far from the guy, I almost always shoot in the wrong direction.

Using one stick for shooting and the other for movement would be way easier to manage, using a trigger for firing and the other shoulder buttons for jumping or dancing, IDK

It would make this game much nicer on my wrists.

IDK what people are saying about lag, I run it fine, little lag at the first scene, every time, but no issues once I am up n going. (other than cramped wrists after a bit...

This is a cut n paste of my opinion posted in the discussion forum for this game. I can say I would mention this title to Mega Man fans more than anyone, and my only real complaint is the lack of controller support, I enjoy the rest of the game and would likely play more of it, if I could be comfortable.
