Update 1.2 - "First Step" is Live!

Hey Guys and Girls,

It`s such an amazing feeling to continue work on Kingdom Wars 1. The team and I are looking forward to fulfilling all the promises we made with regards to Kingdom Wars future, and albeit delayed by a few months, we hope that today`s update will be a great first step in that direction.

Today we take another swing at releasing update 1.2. Following the problems with the original patch we broke it down into two parts, and done a lot of of additional debugging and polishing.
We have taken all the precautions to make sure nothing gets broken, and if it does, nobody will loose any progress (at most 60 minutes of progress will be lost if worst comes to worst)

This Part 1 will include 90% of changes from our original update 1.2, however we will not be forcing players to update (can keep on playing on older patch), and it will now include few core fixes, like: better performance, no multiplayer lag, steam overlay and store working for everyone, stability and crash fixes.

Updated on the new update 1.3 could be found here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/227180/discussions/0/358415206080453946/

After we have finally updated to 1.3 we`ll easily be able to patch the game in the future, and our priorities will continue to be getting Kingdom Wars stable but free by early-mid summer, followed by release the Lords and Vassals expansion. From that point on we`ll be working on copying various cool features to KW1 - from pathfinding and turn times to Russian localization, and smooth & stable multiplayer games.

And so presenting 1.2 "First Step"

-Fixed crash in the Orc regions view
-The Bank is now global shared between player towns
-Fixed but with Bank losing player units on game reload
-Fixed vast majority of out of sync bugs
-Fixed World Map bug with armies stuck in the mountains
-Fixed several visual glitches on the world map
-List of player online updates much better now
-New items in the Store: Small Treasure, and Epic Treasure
-Fixed various bug with workers not dropping off resources
-Player referral window is back
-Quest, Siege, and PvP rewards reduced by 30%
-Crown exchange price changed to 2500
-All the crown costs of buildings, either eliminated, or made much lower.
-Updated social options in the main menu
-Limit of 32 horse carts per army
-Fixed workers that wouldn't gather or quit gathering.
-Fixed sale pricing resulting in very low or negative prices

And here`s a small preview of what will be included in Part 2, in May.

-Eliminated almost all multiplayer lag
-Fixed Steam Overlay not working on Windows 10 and 8.1
-Fixed launch crash for some players after Windows 10 upgrade
-Fixed Market transactions not working for some players
-Fixed majority of bugs with losing units or armies due to connection issues
-New way to treat players losing connecting to server

Resuming work - Update 1.2 next week

Dear Players,

After vacation week for our core team, we are back to work on Update 1.2, and after resolving a few issues - we are now working on good way to release 1.2 next week. You know... without any of these tiny... town erasing bugs.

The plan right now is to update in several patches. We`ll release a small start-up patch 1.2A on Tuesday, and then follow up by releasing several mini updates B, and C later in the week.

The big part of the update 1.2 C will come on Thursday/Friday as a Beta update, that players will be able to opt-in to try over the weekend. If everything goes well there we`ll complete the patching progress by the following Monday.

Once we finally complete upgrading the game to 1.2 things will go much better down the road, as updating Kingdom Wars will be a breeze compared to hell we are going through with 1.2

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the patch. I do have to mention that this time around e`ll be taking all the precautions, to make sure nobody will loose any progress due to patching.

About This Game

Kingdom Wars is a free to play 3D MMORTS with real-time siege combat, without the pay to win element so common in the genre. Having evolved from Dawn of Fantasy: Kingdom Wars this strategy game offers lively online world, where players gather resources, construct majestic towns, and impregnable strongholds, direct citizens, complete quests in the service of mighty nobles and fiendish rogues, and eventually manage a global empire. All within an online realm that grows, works, lives, and breathes even when you log off. All this in glorious 3d world with stunning level of detail and epic scale - with vibrant towns and thousand strong armies. And of-course let’s not forget the glorious siege battles all in real-time! Developed by Reverie World Studios, Kingdom Wars is the result of several years of hard work by a new Toronto based studio, with members all over the world.

Features

Innovative MMORTS Approach
  • Wage war with neighboring regions or complete countless hours of quests as you unveil the dark secrets of Terria while managing a persistent kingdom and economy with thousands of other players. Socialize, trade, forge alliances and - best of all - battle against other players across the world, defeat their armies, and burn their towns!
Not Pay to Win
  • With Kingdom Wars free to play release our goal was to create a game of skill, not bigger wallets. We have followed player suggestions and tried to avoid the common pay2win traps. In Kingdom Wars majority of micro-transaction only effect cosmetic changes or unlock bonus content, that does not effect game progress and player interaction. All the other options are limited to one time use, to prevent anyone gaining unfair advantage.
Multiple Games Modes
  • Two additional singleplayer modes - including open-ended Campaign mode, and content-packed single-player Skirmish mode with both Lay Siege and Castle Defense maps - guaranteed to satisfy players of various tastes and gameplay styles.
Stunning Siege Combat
  • User-friendly Siege-oriented gameplay adds a whole new dimension to the battlefield as you ram the enemy gate, scale the walls, and place automated defensive systems, such as: stone tippers, boiling oil, and wall-mounted catapults.
Three Distinct Races & Styles of Gameplay
  • Kingdom Wars features three distinct civilizations: Elves, Orcs and Men, presenting a unique approach to these iconic races with three distinct styles of gameplay. Each race is complete with its own lore, language, world region and terrain, dozens of distinct units and buildings, hundreds of unique technologies, and each even has a different approach to economy and building style.
Fully 3D Dynamic World Map
  • Travel the MMORTS world using a beautifully-designed 3D World Map featuring scale replicas of all the NPC strongholds, quest areas, and the player's homeland.
Original Base Building Approach
  • Each player’s Stronghold features hundreds of buildings that look and behave like a City-Simulation game, but without any micro-management, giving the player more time to spend on the battlefield. In addition each race offers a different approach to building strongholds.
Complex Economic Model with Corpse Looting
  • Combines the complexity of nearly a dozen gathering possibilities, different for each race, with automated simplicity, allowing players the options to micromanage their economy, or leave it to run itself in times of war.
Realistic Weather and Season Change
  • The gaming world comes alive as you build and battle during winter or summer months, as you push your armies through heavy rain or snow storms. Your economy significantly changes from summer to winter, when different strategic options are available during different times of day and severe weather makes certain units useless.

This game overall i believe to be good the reasons why is its a very good strategy game although i believe alot more work couldve gone into it making it better. My second reason for this opinion is that the game has so many possiabillties for troops allies and enemies its quite amazing although again i feel as if more couldve been done i wish you could bring more troops into certain combat situations for example and i really hate the whole crowns system for building as well as paying to play other cities without deleting your old one.

A great idea for a game, but badly marketed.

1) F2P does not give you access to single-player.
Despite that the game is advertised on Steam as being single-player, when you first start the game you will notice that there is no option for single-player (only online multi-player). In order to get access to single-player you have to go through the menus to an "Enter Code" screen that is used to unlock single-player as Premium content. Single-player is not included for free.

2) F2P allows you only one free city.
There are a maximum of 24 slots available for different cities you can have on your account. You get only your first city slot for free. You have to pay for the other 23 city slots. With the game having 3 races and several city creation options, if you don't want to buy city slots, then you literally have to create one city, play it until you get bored, then delete it to create another one in order to try something new. I'm not sure what exactly will happen to your city slots should the game's online servers shut down.

I am not against paying for purely cosmetic items in F2P games and I understand the need for the developers to make money. However, the F2P model used in KW is limiting and a hindrance in allowing players to experience the full aspect of the game, rather than just being a minor annoyance typically found in other F2P titles for which you pay to get rid of. So while the game is not "Pay to Win" in terms of player advantage, the "free" aspect essentially makes the game into a MP demo to get you to buy city slots. AFAIK, real money payment is the only option to unlock city slots as you cannot grind to unlock them.

Furthermore, the game's mediocre graphics, akward troop movements, and bugs make it difficult to appreciate this title, let alone spending ~$5 x 23 = $115 for all city slots.

For me, this is a really good game idea ruined by mediocre graphics, bugs, and a convenience pay-wall.

While the game may not be P2W, it is in every sense what you would expect in terms of micro-transactions from a F2P title. IMO, the game is more suited to a reasonably-priced one-time purchase (+DLC) everything-accessible business model than F2P, i.e., KW2.

Ultimately, though, since the game is "free", there is no reason not to try it for yourself and make your own decision.

I am really enjoying this mmorts's style, it's quite unique... It's like Age of Empires... in an open world... with active quests in a more realistic trade/commerce environment.

!!!CONGRATS!!! I finnaly foud a game that is like clash of clans, and a great job for the people who made this good game.

IT IS REALLY !!!FFFFFFFFFFFFRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

You can buy crowns or like currency that gives you the elite items

Let me state this game keeps on improving. They are coming out with a add-on in 2015. With this awesome game there is a second one called kingdom wars 2 and they are both improving both of these games all the time. They care for what you say when your on fourms theres no hackers, which means its more fun to most of us.

I will reccomend this game because its great to me and hopefully the 3 expansions will make the game better than it is. Also i was looking at the comments i heard that there is lag, but theres not unless you have a bad connection, bad internet, or your computer needs some upgrades.

The only bad part about the game is the crown system, i have heard rumers that there going to remove them for units but not the buildings them selfs. Because if they took it away people would have a army of max ranked dragons, minotaurs, hydras, and dwarf tools, which all makes you (over powered)=>OP <=(over powered) like 3,000 army power, which is way to OP. This is the reason the game is getting more populated over the years.

I hope this review was helpful to you

This game doesn't just mix a variety of genres. It interconnects them while wrapping it all with an MMO layer. I am having a blast so far.

Note: It plays wonderfully on a GT630 with 2GB RAM
