I simply am not aware of a better pinball simulator. Zen Studios has made a very solid-playing pinball game, and has the best licensing to boot. Sure, it's a bit of a downer that you can't unlock more tables without paying for them, as the number of free tables you get to start with is pretty small. However, the tables are of very high production quality, and CAN be had for relatively cheap if you're patient enough to wait for them to go on sale. Either way, the value is there.

The replay value speaks for itself, and while you may eventually reach your limit for how much pinball you can handle in one sitting, with them CONSTANTLY adding new content you'll likely never get bored of playing Pinball FX2. If you can, hook this up to your big sceen tv at your next party. I guarantee it will be a hit.

Now if only they would go and get the rights to and do remakes of all those old Bally-Midway pinball games from the 70's 80's and 90's...

The Pinball Arcade has real-world simulations of tables. This has the most realistic physics engine ever, with fancy tables as well. I don't have much to say about this table, but what I love about this game the most is the physics engine. It has the most realistic physics and sounds I've ever heard in a pinball game. The pricing is above reasonable, but it's also tables that don't exist in the real world, which is what I'm more interested in with a pinball game. That physics engine keeps me coming back though, and I know it's strange to have that as a selling point, so I'll say this instead: What if Zen Studios and Farsight Studios got together and combined FX2's physics engine with TPA's pinball simulations of all those classic Gottlieb, Bally, Williams and Stern tables?

I won't waste words on explaining how awesome mechanics and graphics this game has.
The reason I'm giving a negative review is simple. There is no in game system of unlocking new tables.
It's plain straight forward, you want fun tables, pay.

If you are a fan of pinball then give this a try.
The free tables are good enough to decide if you like the mechanics or not.
The DLC content is reasonably priced. Like with real life pinballs favourite tables will come down to personal preference.
Most of the tables I've purchased I like. Some table designs are better than others.

I originally purchased this bundled with a bunch of other games. When I first played it I used a keyboard and I just didn't care for it. Then I read some reviews and plugged in a controller with feedback. I immediately returned and bought the full bundle to get more tables. Now I have all but a few tables. I love this game. It's an arcade on my PC. Sure it's not real pinball but this is it's own thing. It's got all of the tricks in it and it tweaks in a way to make the game quite interesting. Dare I say I prefer this to real pinball.

Best pinball on the market. Read the reviews before buying tables because some are much better then others, but the core game is great.

First, I want to say that this is not a pinball simulator. As far as I know, none of the tables are modeled from physical tables, and many of the effects, toys, and ball behavior would be difficult, if not impossible, to replicate on a physical machine. Also, the physics engine seems to be the first to suffer when the program is running slow, which can be annoying.

All that being said, I really love these tables. Each feels very unique, but there's enough carried over from one design to the next that learning one helps improve your skill on many more of them. The graphics and characters are fun, the voice acting is usually quite good, and many of them have a surprisingly nice story flow. Having even just a few tables gives you a really nice set of choices. I have 33 tables, and I would say most feel completely unique from the others. The physics on some of the tables can be a bit wonky, but as long as the program is running well, the physics is consistant and I had no trouble getting used to the occasionally strange ball behavior.
