Are you old enough to have played Master of Magic?

This is Master of Magic. Not 'loosely based on' or 'contains a nod to' Master of Magic... it IS Master of Magic. If you know how to play MoM, you won't even need the tutorial.

Which is fine. I loved Master of Magic. The graphics are much better, and there are a lot of improvements in the way your various campaigns can be set up. You've got adjustable victory conditions, more players if you want them, and you can ally with independent cities for starters. This game is well worth picking up if you like 4x.

Curator Review:

AoW3 is a 4X, Turn-Based Strategy Fantasy game that feels like a mix of Civilization V and Heroes of Might and Magic. Take control of one of the great races and conquer your enemies or make allies to create global peace. Overall, it is a pretty fun game. Probably won't be a staple of the channel but it was fun while it lasted.

The game was surprisingly good! The turn-based element with the rich story line was fantastic. There is a bit of a steep learning curve and it's more difficult than i thought. It's more combat focused than city builder. I don't like the seperate battle system, but that's what auto-battle is for!

Best TBS game ever in my opinion.
+Combat is absolutely EXCELLENT and feels involved and indepth
+Great RPG Elements
+In depth character creation
+Huge Unit variety
+Good DLC with loads of content that only the host needs to own for others to enjoy
+Massive replay value
+Excellent Co-Op

And now negatives

-Graphics are JUST okay and animations are nothing special
-Ingame weapons and armor don't change how your character looks
-DLC is kinda expensive and doesn't go on sale cheap enough, though they are well worth the money (HALFLINGS)

All in all Age of Wonders 3 has loads of character and massive replayability. An absolute "A" in my opinion.

Age of Wonders 3 is an excelent 4x game that focuses heavily on combat but should not be your first 4x title as it's so deep and complex that it will overwhelm you.

This game is very similar to the "Heroes of Might and Magic" games but everything is taken to a next level. There are wide variety of starting races and classes. You even got 3 specilization skills on your leader. There are tons of stuff that are thown to your face right at the begining so I strongly recomend to watch a lets play video on youtube before jumping to a saddle youself. Heroes naturally level up as you proceed and they can be focused to be a healer,a disabler, an aura giver or a creature summoner for example. You can develop your empire to a way wish: getting everything by brute force or with cunning diplomacy. Whatever you choose war is inevitable in the end.

The combat is executed excelent in this game and fighting is something you do almost every turn. Some fighting areas give units buffs or debuffs. Most terrains is also filled with natural obstackles that you can use to your advance. AI plays clever and will kill your units when it have a chance. Every unit has 3 action points and you can drain enemy units APs with diffrent kind of attacks and abilities what makes combat really deep and interesting. There is no pre-battle deployment and your units can get underfire the very first turn. I Feel mixed about lacking this feature: It's annoying to see your leader starting position being on a frontline and taking damage, however even now you still use your first turns to getting your formation up so is there really anything missing?

There are random world wide events that happen every now and then which makes every game feel unique. Amount of items and abilities is just ridicilous and they can really alter you playing style. Not every items is "+2dmg or +3 armor", some give you unique abilities, auras, immunities or spells. You can also develop each race under your rule and try to complete special goals called "empire quests" while playing to get more powerful.

There is no "Technology tree" in this game because most of the new learned things are not linearly linked to each other. This is without a doubt interesting feature when you have played this game a while but I'm pretty sure all the new players find this very confusing as you don't have a clue what you unlock after curent research is completed. Strategic minimap don't give almost any information about the map besides it's shape and location of the towns. I also didn't find any way to enlarge which is unfortunately as it really is a minimap.

If you have patience to really study all the complex game mechanics you are probably going to spend a good portation of your time with this game. On the other hand if you have just played call of duty games and want to try something else, this is not for you. Start with Civilization 5 if you are looking for easy approach turn-based strategy game, because this is made for 4x veterans. Have played some 25 hours when writing this and I have just scarth the surface. Every game I find many items and monster I haven't seen before and develop more efective ways to use my units and vanish my foes.

10 - Perfect game
9 - Excelent game, best of the genre
8 - Good game, worth your time
7 - Average game, nothing really special
6 - Bad game, avoid
5 - Painful to play, completely waste of time
4 - Failed game, unpayable

Love this game. Reminds me a lot of the old Warlords series. Get a hero, build units, create a stack and then go conquer. But there is more complexity then just that. If you like 4x, turn based strategy games like the Endless series, then you will probably like this game. The only con (if you can call it that) is the slow paceing. Games progress very slowly. Large maps can take forever. However it is fun, so I forgive it for being a major time suck.

Without doubt my favourite turn based fantasy strategy game on the market. For those who recall Master of Magic, Triumph Studios have recaptured the wonder of that game and brought it into the modern era. The tactical battle system is in particular a pleasure to play and hasn't got old no matter how many battles I have fought in the process of raising my empire to pre-eminence.

Great game, nice music, nice graphics not that in depth though. Quite shallow compared to some other titles with not that great visuals! But it's good game.

This is the best hex-style turn based strategy game I have played. The game offers very distinct empire classes to play, each with a very unique playstyle and unit set. You can also select a race which augments your class by giving your base units special traits and skills. Every class is surprisingly balanced with the exception of Dreadnought, which is significanty overpowered.

What I love most about this game is its combat system which is very deep but at the same time completely transparent. All units possess unique traits and interactions which if leveraged perfectly, can turn a likely defeat into a flawless victory. Units can level up and earn promotions that give them not just plain stats, but additional skills and traits making them more suited to their combat role. The addition of a wide array of global combat spells also adds depth to the game.

This game is a must buy if you enjoy games like Civ, or if you want a game similar to the HoMM series but with balanced gameplay and game depth.
