About This Content

Do you think your character has an ugly beard? Trim it! (And get a haircut while you're at it...) Want to change the name of your kingdom to 'Awesomia'? Do it. Does your faithful vassal have a stupid dynasty name or shield? Customize them! The Customization Pack allows you to alter all of these things in-game. It has no effect on gameplay, but perhaps on your peace of mind.

Key Features

  • In-game barber shop: customize hair and beard.
  • Rename children born to all your descendants (not just your own children)
  • Name bastard dynasties
  • Rename duchies and above, with adjective form

Great add-on to allow you to really help build your own character.

Actually this is an excellent addition to the game, even though it seems to be a little buggy.

Some changes you make to your character's face don't seem to last, because when that guy is dead and you continue as the heir, the changes are sometimes lost when you restart the game.

When this product was first announced, I was very excited about it as it sounded very cool. The reality of the situation is, that this product is nothing short of a scam, a waste of money and false advertised.

The core features of the product were the following:

1. The ability to customize your character, at any point during the game. This is misleading, as you can only change your hairstyle and (if you are a male ruler) your mustache/beard. This doesn't provide you with the in-depth customization that you would expect with, for example the Ruler Designer.

2. You are suppose to be able to change your dynasty name (IIRC: at any time during the game). However, you can only do it, IF you are the head of your dynasty. This means that if you have been playing for several generations, you can forget being allowed to change it.

3. You can design/change your Coat of Arms to whatever you wanted it to be (within the boundary of the customizer’s ability). As of the recent patch (2.2) and with the introduction of the Charlemagne DLC, this core feature was REMOVED!!!

Paradox Development Studio (PDS) response to this was that “This is currently WAD, as the you are not allowed to change your CoA to a shield that does not belong to your religion. This was made like this as the game makes a check on start up and if your shield was of the wrong religion, gave you a random one instead.” (Yes this is a direct quote from their Dev & Q/A team) So instead of fixing the problem, they decided to “remove a core feature” from the Product....

The worst part about this situation is that this product has been on the market for 15 months when Paradox Development Studio (PDS) made the decision to remove one of the core features of this product. Serious... What the ♥♥♥♥!!!

I would highly recommend NO ONE to buy this piece of ♥♥♥♥ DLC.

UPDATE
It appears that in the last patch 2.2.1.3, that PDS has reversed their decision regarding this DLC and has patched back and "fixed" the features that they removed. It still doesn’t change my viewpoint with this review, as they should NEVER have removed the feature in the first place.

What adds insult to injury is the fact that they actually fixed the problems with the COA being replaced on the startup of the game, if your religion was different. I don’t see why they didn't bother to just fix it, instead of removing it.

This is the sort of thing that should be in the game already. Everything available in this DLC can be done with Notepad and some knowledge of the game files.

I still bought it anyways

Crap product.....
This is basically a shield designer only. It will let you change names of children and most grandchildren, but if you have a long reigning character and/or there is even a moderate 'shift' in your line of succession due to early deaths, you will find yourself constantly playing characters with those awful computer generated names. There is also no way to alter the name of your starting character or his/her child.

You can change city, castle, county etc names but only o the map - message boxes for those areas will still use the original name (e.g. you change the county of Chester to Boogieland, you will get a message that says 'Viking raiders have attacked Chester", Earl Bob has inherited Chester from Dave etc etc)

Shield design works and is super....but has 0 impact on game and you don't even notice the tiny shield 99% of the time.

I suggest you use the money to buy a Starbucks coffee instead as it represents better value.

Eh, get this one on sale. A very useful and convenient tool for those who like to roleplay, but this does seem like a money gouging exercise.

On the one hand, this is so overpriced it should come with an apple logo, but on the other hand I find that I use it quite a lot. Get it in a pack or on sale, or if you feel like spending money.

It's good when you're making timelapse and you don't like random country names. But I think that this and Ruler Designer should been same mod.

Just to put that right : unlike what another evaluation says, the possibility to design your coat of arms is still there. I guess it has been broken at some point, but now it's fixed and works perfectly well.

Overall, the DLC isn't a must-have, but is worth its price IF bought in sales (I mean, -75% sales)
