While being an interesting concept, this game is pay-to-play despite its "Free-2-Drift" model. It is far to easy to crash, and when you crash, you have to use repair kits and restart the ENTIRE race. Further more, repair kits are far and few. If you choose not to repair your car and quit the race, you also lose your car. The more upgraded your car becomes, the more repair kits it costs, and the higher chance you run of losing the car. This is a free-to-play model of the game "RIDGE RACER: Unbounded" You may as well buy that game for a more solid and fair experience.

The one great thing that this game has going for it is gameplay. The races are fun, thrilling and will keep you at the edge of your seat. You'd think that that's enough to warrant a recommendation but almost everything else in the game seems to have been put there to annoy you.

The most annoying thing about the game is the punishment system. The game penalizes you heavily for totalling your car, which is made worse by the AI's savage programming. If you total your car, that's it, race over. It doesn't matter if you had a huge lead or if the crash was unavoidable, race over, no exceptions. Wanna race again? You have to use your repair kits to fix your car and restart. Don't have enough kits? Kiss your car goodbye. You could spend hours levelling your car and lose it in an instant.

To be fair to the devs, they do provide you with more than enough kits to keep the average driver afloat, but if you run out, you have to pay real money for new ones.

The next thing on the list (atleast according to me) is you are in fact not really racing, you are trying to beat your time. This means that if you somehow manage to do a perfect race on a certain track, you will never win another race on that track until you beat your perfect time. This is made even more irritating by the track unlock system. You only unlock tracks by levelling up, which is fastest achieved by wining races. If that wasn't bad enough, you are attempting to do all this while trying to survive an onslaught from the AI cars.

Lastly, since you are trying to beat your best time, small things e.g. taking a corner too wide adds valuable seconds to your clock. Now imagine the feeling when an AI car sneaks behind you and spins your car. You now know that there is absolutely no way you're gonna beat your time. Restart, right? Nope, you need to spend repair kits to restart.

Like I said earlier, the racing aspects of the game are great, and it's kept me coming back again and again, but the game's politics suck. I'm a huge fan of Ridge Racer Unbounded and maybe that's why I keep coming back, but if I was asked to give an arcade racer recommendation, this wouldn't be it.

Why have I clocked so many hours on it, I only play it to beat my friends' scores on the leaderboard, and some of them are pretty good.

BEWARE! This is the worst game I've played in a very long time! The physics are broken and seem to be designed to make you crash very often! And you will! This game is literally the pay-to-play model in all of its disgust for everyone to go through. This is not a real free-to-play game, and it is seriously broken as a racing game! Go to Need For Speed or the old Ridge Racers if you want a fun experience.

Well when I first started playing this game it seemed enjoyable, the gameplay itself its not to shabby, its got decent graphics some fun arcade car physics and nice tracks, but what it all comes down to is a grind fest. The racing itself is very fun and fast paced, it will keep you on the edge of your seat. There is just 1 problem. You will be forced to play the same tracks over and over to unlock new ones. Sure its fun playing a track a few times to try and set a new record time but after a while you want to try something else, and untill your a decent level you won't have many tracks to chose from. If you crash during a track you will also need to use repair kits, (earned buy winning races or buying them with real money). This wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't seem like the game was just trying so hard to get you to crash. The amount you win doing races in usually too little to actually upkeep with all your crashes and you will need to wait for your daily bonus by logging in / playing the next day. Now here comes the worst part for me personally. If you run out of repair kits and happen to crash your vehicle it will be DELETED FOREVER. All stats earned / time invested into that car will be lost. I learned this the hard way when my game crashed and deleted my lvl 9 car (which took about 5 hours to achieve) forcing me to use a very slow starter car making it feel like I had not progressed at all aside from unlocking a few tracks which I had to keep grinding to unlock more. To me a racing game should have clear progress with the vehicles you are using and customization should be a given. Aside from a few different skins for cars, they count as a whole new car, there is no way to change your vehicle aside from stat points everytime it levels.

Another big note, all the people you are racing will be ghost of other players times. You will be racing no real interactive ai or any actual players as the game has no multiplayer. This makes it feel very weird as vehicles won't really react with each other and sometimes collisions with other cars will end up getting you wrecked. This game may be decent for a while if you have a bit of money to spend, but to someone who wants a true Free to Play game this is a pass.
