“Comparisons to the Diablo series aren’t lip-service; Marvel Heroes plays exactly like a gamma-irradiated puree of Diablo II and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Real-time mouseclicking combat? Check. Tons of loot? You bet! Crafting? Absolutely. Randomly generated levels and loot drops? Stop it, my nipples are getting hard. Speaking as a fan of both franchises (as well as the Marvel universe in general), my time in the closed beta was nothing short of nerdvana.”

- PC Gamer, May 2013

“Not only does Marvel Heroes seem the perfect title to scratch the Diablo-itch; it's also an MMO to please the most discerning Marvel fan.”

“Marvel Heroes combines the best of the MMO genre with the best of the Action RPG genre”

“Marvel Heroes is a beautiful game, and an incredibly fun one at that. It also offers a distinct change of pace for gamers who may dig certain aspects of Diablo III, but are looking for a richer overall setting to while away the hours.”

Heard a lot of criticism and bad reputation about the game and that got confirmed through the fact that I played it a couple of days after it first launched into Open Beta. Im not lying when I say, the game was terrible back then. It was hard to call it a 'F2P Game'. But it did a 180° rotation since then, the F2P model changed alot and the way and the implementation of several characters or costumes etc. that the players suggest via the game forum is awesome. Gaz Entertainment interacts so nicely with the community, which is the only explanation why the game turned into such a good game in less than a year. Every gaming website that reviewed Marvel heroes like a year ago should 're-visit' it immediately. The meta score of 58 doesn't fit to it in any way.

When the game launched, I was surprised by the fact that the game was not even well optimized for weak/medium level PCs. I mean, seriously? Why exactly would you need a good PC, for a game like this? But oh well, so I did not play it for a while and gave it a try again recently.

Hmm, I noticed all the patching really did some tricks. The game is quite playable now and it is kind of funny how there are so many things... SO. MANY. THINGS. to loot in this game. I like the atmosphere of it, which reminds me of the RPGs of the 90s (And this does not mean it is a bad thing. It is for me, in fact, a good thing, a great thing even). And since it is hard to unlock other heroes, or you have to pay, it feels special if you are the only person with that hero in the area you are in. I am right now playing as Spider-Man, and I noticed you can buy the costume of the Superior Spider-Man. You see, those guys know what kind of stuff makes money. Because in fact, I am quite tempted to buy this.

It felt really good when I was fighting Rhino as Spider-Man, and the other guy who was the Superior Spider-Man helping me out and all, it was something like a dream come true for me, Spider-Man and Doc Oc Spidey working together to beat down Rhino? Oh boy.

And it was incredibly fun to beat down Venom with a bunch of X-Men guys as well. I would have to say, this game has potential. The whole combat system is pretty fun, too, and I really like how fast Spidey moves during the battle, it is certainly fun to watch.

This game, is quite interesting. Pretty fun. Even though I am a Marvel fan, if the game sucks, then I would not even think about playing it, but there is something about this game, that makes me want to keep coming back to play again. Certainly a great free MMORPG.

8.7 out of 10

*UPDATED in November 28th, 2013*

Now that I have played this game for over 100 hours, it is about time I wrote a little bit more detailed review. First of all, I really like the fact that the things in the map can be destroyed, for example, all those window glasses and tables and such all get destroyed if you use AoE attacks around, making the whole battle appear a little bit more exciting.

The graphics are one of the best, and quite well optimized nowadays as well. If you have a good PC with a good gaming GPU, it is recommended that you max the settings, as there is a big difference between the lowest settings and the max settings.

I've noticed that after some patches that happened recently, it seems like there are more people than there were in the past, and it's good to see that some new bosses and such were added as well. The game has certainly gone through a lot of changes recently, and I believe they did a great job.

This game will grow, and I can tell. I just wish to see a little bit more costumes for certain characters, like Emma Frost, Jean Grey and Spidey.

It's just, this game needs a little bit more love from more people.

9.1 out of 10.

Marvel Heroes has been one of my favorite games for a while, should I mention it is made by one of the Diablo II creators. It is a great MMOARPG that is completely FREE TO PLAY. Not paying with cash handicaps one through stash space, only thing you have to purchase, you can and I have found several free costumes. One of the things that keeps me coming back is the amount the devs care and update their game, every month a new hero is released (recently 2 this month) and many changes are made. This game is worth a try, forget about other FTP games and any other ARPG (POE, D3, etc) on the market. The reason this game gets a bad wrap is it released in what I would even consider a late alpha stage.

Extremely enjoyable Diablo style game that is a must play for any superhero lovers out there.

The game has been vastly improved over its initial launch just 5 months ago back in June, and with plans of adding 2 new heroes and new content every month, Gaz has also said they have enough content planned for years to come so its only going to get better.

The game is F2P in every sense of the word, all heroes are purchasable with a special in game currency that drops from every type of enemy called Eternity Splinters with heroes starting at 200 splinters and going upto 600 for the more popular heroes like Deadpool and Ironman, you can also use real money to just buy your favourite heroes right away with the games G currency if theres a hero you really cant wait to play as, typically a splinter has been said to drop every 5-10mins of killing enemies so if you have the patience you can get all your heroes for free.

There are some things that do require real money to obtain and they are more costumes, bank storage as well as some cosmetic fluff like pets and xp boosting potions, there is however a rare chance for any of the costumes on the store to drop while you're playing but it is very rare.

The Super Hero "Diablo" that could. What initially was a very lack luster super hero diablo-esque, action rpg has evolved very quickly into a casually enjoyable Marvel experience. Players play as their favorite hero and procede down a condensed set of recent Marvel Comics story arcs written or supervised by Brian Michael Bendis, the prime writer for past and some current Avengers, X-Men and Spider-Man books.

Those familiar with dungeon crawler style Action RPGs will quickly understand the controls and camera perspective.Despite some performance issues, the game is still enjoyable. However some will become turned off by the fact that you and many others can be playing the same hero in the same space at the same time. Once you get past those initial hangups, its smooth sailing.

The Free 2 Play store model sells characters, costumes and services but the player is able to earn them with enough work.
