Here!

If you wish to participate please leave a message in the Sign-Up Thread.

What is Team Deathmatch Showdown?
Team Deathmatch Showdown is a variation of Battlechess. 2 teams with 5 players each fight each other. Both teams decide on which player to send out to fight. Then those selected players will fight each other in a 1v1 duel. We'll use Duel Box as our map, no FFA and only 1v1 duels, one player per team at a time. Each player only fights once per team matchup. A team wins if it scores 3 wins. For more detailed information have a look at the Rules-Thread. Subject to change!

A cape for the first place's team. Everyone in team will get a cape and get a game from the prize pool.

How do I check in?
Join the group chat 2 hours before the tournament begins. Just one member has to check in, and if need be, inform of any team changes / subs. Any team who did not check in 10 minutes before the actual tournament started is disqualified and removed from the brackets.

I can't find a team / I'm missing a member for my team?!
No problem, have a look at this thread.

I don't live in Europe. Can I still participate?
Of course, everyone can enter this tournament, as long as they find a team. There might be different servers for US and AUS, but that has yet to be decided.

Can I donate for prizes?

About This Game

Prove you are the world's greatest swordsman in Blade Symphony: a slash-em-up featuring a highly detailed and in-depth sword fighting system. Face down other players in tactical swordplay, 2 versus 2 team duels, sandbox FFA, or the Control Points game mode!

Choose your fighting style

Each of the four characters have a unique fighting style suited to how you want to play.
  • Phalanx, a fencer gladiator hybrid, attacks with long range stabs and a versatile array of side attacks
  • Judgement, a knight crossed with a samurai, uses hard hitting forward attacks and wide strafing attacks
  • Ryoku, a vagrant street ninja, attacks with break dance moves and a signature reverse blade style
  • Pure, an acrobatic wushu style assassin that attacks with flips, cartwheels, extremely mobile
  • Vanguard, a quick-footed champion that uses leaning plunges to push opponents into her blade

Each character has four combat stances and over forty different attacks.

Choose Your Sword

Pair your character up with a sword type to completely change your way of approaching combat.
  • Katana, cause massive damage when parrying your opponents
  • Longsword, a well-balanced, hard hitting and adaptable sword
  • Rapier, a piercing, high damage forward thrusting weapon great for parrying
  • Scimitar, a weapon based on turning and performing as many cuts as possible
  • Jian, an agile, responsive weapon great for combos

Tactical Sword Fighting

There are no unlockable advantages in Blade Symphony. All unlockables are cosmetic. You care about proving your skill and so should your game.

Every attack has openings that are determined in real-time and efficacy is entirely up to you. Did you start an attack too early? Turn away and end the attack in a safe location. Did your opponent stupidly use a lighter stance? Go in and punish him! By switching stances mid-combo you can chain attacks into your own flurry of death.

The fighting system is open for your exploration, you can dash, jump, do an air attack, land, swing sideways with a heavy stance, parry with a light stance, and then roll away.

Every attack flows from your blade in true three dimensional space. As does your opponents! Swords collide in mid-air and you will need good timing and aim to defeat your opponent.

Advanced Character Customization

Customize your character with skins, masks, swords, and multiple attachments streamed directly from Steam Workshop.

Fight as a Team

Play in the new Control Points game mode and participate in team-based sword fighting.

I do NOT reccomend this game.

-the characters feel floaty
-the battles are one sided to who can spam the better attack with 1 character, even though the game features 5 playables characters.
-the game has a lack lustered offline mode
-online connection even with a half decent ping is one sided to spamming attacks

the one good thing I can say for the game, is the weapon designs are very varied, sadly it takes forever to unlock even 1 of them. taking an hour or two just to get 160 notes to purchase it, while some weapons take up to 1,600

Great swordfighting game, easy to play but hard to master the mechanics. Smooth gameplays and nice sounds.
Only problem is the small player base, since it is multiplayer only.

The whole game is just damn fun. I just wish there were a bit more people on then Usual numbers.
- The music is beautiful as is the environments and blades.
- Game play is simple but hard to master depending on your character that you choose.
- Workshop has some cool things for you like Maps and different blade sets for you to have fun with.

Not what i expected. In a bad way.

The amount of content is very bare. Because it's all about 1v1 pvp duels. WHICH I DONT LIKE BECAUSE ITS £7!! I just feel like there should be more.
I think the animations are a bit off at times which is weird since its a combat oriented game, it should spend more resources on animation.
Has good music (i think).
It's not realistic incase anyone thought of that. Just typical holywood fencing theme.

The community is pretty much dead and in a pvp-only game (unless if you count training bots) that sux.

I got bored and quit.

Have not touched this game for awhile and i don't really have any desire too but i have far from a negative opinion on it a few friends and myself would sometimes switch from playing Darksouls PvP to this and it was a refreshing change combat is pretty good and that's basically the main factor here so i have little else to say.

It looks like it could have been a beautiful, engrossing fighting game. There aren't any players on, however. The learning curve on the game is very steep, and the people left online have clearly been playing the living daylights out of the game. Most matches I was lucky to get a single hit in. I want to like it so much, so perhaps I'll spend a little more time with it to see if I discover some other facet of it, but I can't picture the game having any real staying power.

Edit: I tried spending some time fighting bots to get a better handle on the game. They are more difficult than the only three other players that were online. In three matches I was able to hit the AI once.

Awesome game: combat is fluid, the graphics are beautiful, the maps are large, the characters are diverse and can be heavily customized. But the active playerbase is very very small. If the game had a larger playerbase it would be much better.

Good/Bad Review

Good: Flashy sword animations with an extensive combo system that varies between swords make for a unique fighting game that is unlike most others.

Bad: Small community, rarely play against someone who is also on the same skill level as you.

They say it requires too much skill to play this game... I can only tell you that those people are call of duty hipsters that rely on pulling a single button and killing their foe. This game is like a trophy, perfectly polished and made just right. but sadly it has been washed away, broken, rusted. It is like and isolated town that should be full of people, Its like going to disney world and seeing knowone there. There are the few people that still play this game and i am one of them. Though running about the only two or three servers whith players on them. I feel like this game does not have much hope in becoming popular these days, but I still love this game with all of my heart.

A good concept that's died off.

Before you start on me, yes I know people still play.
People who've been playing for a long time.

It's important to know that if you're a potential buyer on the fence about this game, the community now is comprised of the odd newbie checking out the game, or veterens. You'll either have other noobs to practice with, or vets destroying you.
The latter will be moreso.

My Playthrough
The Review
I can not recommend this game in it's current form as it is a multiplayer only game so if this game don't have a big enough community then it's unplayable. The devs did not do anything to keep the community big or thriving. So at this point you would be lucky to even fight someone in this game. If you want to play a better multiplayer only game I would suggest TF2.

This game NEEDS just a hint of marketing!!!
-the player base is small enough to where its a bit of a problem.
-Solid, straightforward yet difficult to master mechanics, Character customization is more expansive than Mortal Kombat but of course less than Soul Calibur, and its visually beautiful without being heavily dependent on good hardware.
-I want to see this game get bigger! Devs, If you each spent an hour blasting youtube, forums, and your gamer friends with a well made cinematic trailer (I KNOW you can do it the existing videos have good production quality, and hard to beat a bangin soundtrack such as this) we could very well see the player base double in a matter of weeks. do it while you're on sale and call it triple! you know its not the "game's" fault when every commentator's post is about the player base and nothing to do with performance issues.

Played 420+ hours so surely it's been worth my time, was dank, but I do have other things to say about it aswell

Anyways gonna put a TL;DR right here if you too lazy
Of course, Blade Symphony is a swordfighting game, the same way Arma 3 is a FPS
Is good gameplay wise, but sometimes there are a lack of players, if you want players just buy when the game is on sale there are tons, plenty of victims ;^)
Play if you want to get serious about getting better, don't if you think button mashing is the ♥♥♥♥
Be prepared to spend a lot of time if you want to get anywhere
Unless you spam vanguard ofc
You will ragequit like tons of times, some players are pieces of ♥♥♥♥, and tons are ready to help
If you feel some attraction to this game keep on playing, getting better is worth it

Pros
- Characters, swords, and workshop items are diverse
- Anyone can create anything in the workshop
- The game has a large focus on skill
- When you win against someone really good it's like the greatest feeling ever
- Capes (but so expensive, one could say it is a testament of skill since you need to win to get notes(ingamecurrency, in duel 10 notes per win & 1 note per loss, in FFA 1 note per win & no notes per loss, ranked matches only, and yes there is ranked FFA, but you don't suffer any loss in ranking))
- Gameplay surely different compared to others, don't start if you don't like losing alot
- Ranking up by fighting someone in your own rank, makes alot of the battles way less tense and you don't get sweaty and nervous every fight. Note that not all fights will give you points in ranking, 2v2 and 2v1 matches where all players have the same rank won't give any points at all, but they give notes, however I wouldn't recommened 2v2 cause is god damn tedious fighting 2 people at the same time while they spam attacks and your team mate isn't doing anything or is already dead. At the same time 2v2 is pretty good if you want to fight someone your level without losing elo/ranking
- Alot of players are pretty cool and willing to help you out, also the ryoku clan mentors are pretty useful for many people young and old (not just for ryoku players it's just a name)
- Somehow has become a weeb game, even vanguard starts speaking japanese all of a sudden
- Sprays, ez anime boobs ingame
- A lot of people are trying to bring the community together
- Hidden code of honour (Bowing, GG GF WP, no shurikens when starting, etc.)
- Nobody really knows how good you actually are. The elo ranking system turns the ranks into leaderboards rather than seperating players by skill, so it's pretty fun to go defeat new masters who think they are good
- You can only buy cosmetic items in the customization menu, no items that give you an advantage
- fug4life (the life force of blade symphony)

Cons
- Vanguards who spam (idk why they aren't less spammable nowadays, it's insane)
- It's frustrating to get on the right track especially when you don't have a mentor or someone(/thing?) similar
- If your ping is too high then the game is f*cked up (grabbing from 10m away, you can't hit anybody, random damage done to you) if you are under 100 ping it should be fine
- Empty community most of the time (When there is a sale of some sort there are tons for some reason, so play during sales if you want to play with tons of people)
- Spamming gets you up the ranking system pretty fast
- Not many servers and most are for FFA and Duel, never get to play on many others with good ping (unless you're in EU or NA)
- Some characters make a real good fit that it's pretty easy to rank up with them (Rapier & Phalanx, Rapier & Vanguard) they also are really hard to beat sometimes, I'd see this mostly being trouble for new players
- Players learn more through playing random matches at first than through the tutorial, never got to finish the tutorial myself. It approaches you with a very technical mindset, but for someone who just bought the game trying to have fun you're better off learning by going into FFA to duel people, trying new things out, and asking people how stuff work
- People on the forums who complain that the game is dead but don't actually play the game
- There isn't that much new content in each update, however I do believe that this could be for the best considering most people find tons of reasons to hate on new characters
- If you stop playing for several days it's painful to get back to your original skill level (cries)

While said in Cons that spamming gets you up the ranking system pretty fast, alot of people can get stuck between Diamond and Master. When you get Diamond the first time don't expect to keep it too long as there is a massive skill gap between players when you reach Diamond. If you're lucky you'll focus less on ranking up and instead actually getting better.

Additionally the game gets very technical sometimes, reading up the patch notes is a good idea if you want to improve your techniques/tactics/whatever. Sadly you can't 1 hit with a katana anymore ;^)

So, this game is pretty good gameplay wise, and there aren't that many issues if you enjoy the game like me, vanguard is still a ♥♥♥♥♥ when abused, but there are some players that respectably use her. I'd say that this is game is the best game at the moment for people who want to play a sword-fighting game that requires real skill. It really gives you a feel of improvement everytime you beat someone through hard work and training. So I'd say go for it, knock yourself out.

Anyways please fix vanguard

TL;DR - If you want multiplayer, don't bother. If you don't mind sparring with an AI over and over again, get it.

Let me start by saying that this game is absolutely amazing, the footwork, the timing, the swordplay is all fantastically executed, probably better than in any other game I've ever seen and it pains me to see that thumbs down...

That being said, the problem with this game is the players, or... lack thereof, and the league of those who are still around.

I am an Australian, and the playerbase is probably 0.1% Australian, perhaps the Aus vs. US tournament that has begun is changing that but as it stands no such luck, there are very few servers and the ones that are there lag like nothing else, and in this game, lag is a big deal.

Lag the difference of whether or not you can snipe that quick hit, or make that jumping lunge, or make the decision to dodge or block your opponents att- Oh wait he already jumped back and you couldn't tell, oh wait she already hit you before you could even consider making a decision, The lag makes this unplayable.

On top of this, the players who are left are all of the elite, beaten countless opponents and have their swordplay honed to a razors edge, and they will beat you down time after time without fail, because they know all the ins and outs, all the skills and tactics and how to counter them all.

And I end by saying this, if you enjoy skill based games, believe you can bear the lag and believe you can weather through a thousand soul crushing defeats for a single victory, I say without question to get it.

If however you cannot, then find something else I'm afraid.

Its surpisingly good. I'm a sword fighting, close combat type of guy and I didn't expect much from this since a lot of the games on steam ( except The Way Of The Samurai 4 and Gunz 2 - The second duel ) Been relatively bad, and slow paced. If you are looking for a skill-based game and extremely good community, this is the absolute best game for you, ON MY WORD!
