Sign-ups for the upcoming Championship Tournament are now open!

The date of the tournament is Saturday, 1st of August and it takes place at 6pm GMT/7pm BST/11am PST.

The tournament is a bit different from previous ones, so again make sure you read the rules before signing up!

In this tournament you are playing hot seat, one who manages to beat every other participant without being defeated on his killing spree will emerge victorious.

To be precise: we will use Arena 1 of the duel map and every participant will fight there; newer players will particpate before older players; we will seed the order of participants, mostly by skill level. You are allowed to use Arena 2 for training if it's not your turn. We have a tournament time limit so that if there is no clear winner it becomes sudden death.

The tournament type is double elimination. Here's what that means:

A double elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost two games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only one defeat results in elimination.

The winner of the tournament will receive a class-related cape.

All players who are interested in taking part should first read the tournament's official thread before signing up.

About This Game


Prove you are the world's greatest swordsman in Blade Symphony: a slash-em-up featuring a highly detailed and in-depth sword fighting system. Face down other players in tactical swordplay, 2 versus 2 team duels, sandbox FFA, or the Control Points game mode!

Choose your fighting style

Each of the four characters have a unique fighting style suited to how you want to play.
  • Phalanx, a fencer gladiator hybrid, attacks with long range stabs and a versatile array of side attacks
  • Judgement, a knight crossed with a samurai, uses hard hitting forward attacks and wide strafing attacks
  • Ryoku, a vagrant street ninja, attacks with break dance moves and a signature reverse blade style
  • Pure, an acrobatic wushu style assassin that attacks with flips, cartwheels, extremely mobile
  • Vanguard, a quick-footed champion that uses leaning plunges to push opponents into her blade

Each character has four combat stances and over forty different attacks.

Choose Your Sword

Pair your character up with a sword type to completely change your way of approaching combat.
  • Katana, cause massive damage when parrying your opponents
  • Longsword, a well-balanced, hard hitting and adaptable sword
  • Rapier, a piercing, high damage forward thrusting weapon great for parrying
  • Scimitar, a weapon based on turning and performing as many cuts as possible
  • Jian, an agile, responsive weapon great for combos

Tactical Sword Fighting


There are no unlockable advantages in Blade Symphony. All unlockables are cosmetic. You care about proving your skill and so should your game.

Every attack has openings that are determined in real-time and efficacy is entirely up to you. Did you start an attack too early? Turn away and end the attack in a safe location. Did your opponent stupidly use a lighter stance? Go in and punish him! By switching stances mid-combo you can chain attacks into your own flurry of death.



The fighting system is open for your exploration, you can dash, jump, do an air attack, land, swing sideways with a heavy stance, parry with a light stance, and then roll away.

Every attack flows from your blade in true three dimensional space. As does your opponents! Swords collide in mid-air and you will need good timing and aim to defeat your opponent.

Advanced Character Customization

Customize your character with skins, masks, swords, and multiple attachments streamed directly from Steam Workshop.

Fight as a Team

Play in the new Control Points game mode and participate in team-based sword fighting.

Remember when you first got Jedi Academy and you jumped into the multiplayer and hit up a few servers and had a blast just whaling on dudes with your lightsaber and backflipping all over the place because WOW YOURE A JEDI NOW and you loved it? Remember that day when you finally got to play the swordfighting video game you had been dreaming of all your life? That was a good feeling.

Now you're in your mid thirties, unmarried and childless, with a career that isn't really going anywhere. It's Friday night and, if you were back in your college days, you'd be at a party, drinking cheap beer on the floor of your best friend's furnitureless apartment, maybe feeling up that chubby but cute girl whose been sending you messages on Friendster. But you're not back in college, you're middle-aged and sitting at your computer looking to download a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ video game to play because THIS IS WHAT YOUR LIFE HAS LED TO: FILLING YOUR MINUTES WITH DISTRACTIONS TO PAD OUT THE HOURS BETWEEN THE TIMES YOU GET TO SLEEP.

So you download Blade Symphony, thinking that you'll get to relive the awesomeness that you felt when you first became a Jedi in Star Wars: Jedi Warrior Jedi Academy. And you know what? You do relive that awesomeness.

For fifteen or twenty minutes, anyway. Then it dawns on you why first/third person swordfighting games always devolve into these super-serious multiplayer servers with very strict rules and Bushido codes where the admins kick anybody who doesn't stick to 1v1s. That reason is because only 15 year olds enjoy playing on a server where it's a free for all and everybody just runs around whaling on everybody else, and you can only be fifteen for so long. Eventually you have to either quit the game and play something more engaging, or you have to join one of these tryhard swordfighter servers to breathe fresh life into the game.

I give this game a thumbs up because for those first fifteen minutes I didn't feel like a middle-aged man playing ♥♥♥♥ing video games on a Friday night in my tiny loft apartment.

Jump in for the technical, challenging facets // Stay for the civil community and rivalries

+ Relaxing, contemplative soundtrack; it's the kind of soft music that helps one to focus
+ Each selectable character has a different play-style that can be accentuated with the right weapons and use of fighting stances
+ Can chain various stances together for combos during combat; can be quite fluid and practiced after enough time in the ring
+ Dueling servers make for very focused, civil engagements between players; there is an overall atmosphere of respect surrounding the player-base
+ Heavily skill-dependent; gameplay is generally very well balanced and, save for practice and dedication, there is little that another player can do to hold a significant advantage over others
+ Exceptionally friendly and inviting in-game community
+ Very mod-friendly; this feature can actually supplement the act of unlocking in-game weapons and appearances
+ Character emotes (such as bowing) help to keep duels expressive; these are gratuitously used to show respect to other players, and this keeps the experiences generally positive
+ Combat mechanics feel solid and are well-implemented
+ Plenty of aesthetically pleasing unlockables available
+ No microtransactions
+ Crisp, minimalist UI
+ Throwing items, feints, and grab mechanics do well to keep gameplay feeling fresh
+ Game heavily rewards strategy, timing, and finesse
+ Interesting environmental designs and character models

- Some animation sets are stiff and awkward
- Moderately small active player base (only 2-3 active servers during the making of this review)
- Fairly steep (though rewarding) learning curve; while I don't necessarily consider this a bad thing, I recognize that it may be enough to turn away more casual players

Dead game. There's one server, maybe two where people still play. The achievement doesn't even work.

All of this is a damn shame because this is one of the most interesting and beautiful games in terms of mechanics and aesthetics, form and function, that I have seen in a long time. It is innovative and competitive and calls on reflex, skill, and intelligence. Unfortunately, it has gone unrecognized and unsupported. Maybe the controls are too weird or it took too many steps outside the comfort zone of the average gamer.

I will say that it doesn't feel natural to control this game with a mouse and keyboard; pressing buttons isn't enough. Maybe with better technology and tactile control, this game would work better. I hope that a game like this appears when we have the hardware interface to support it.

What a beautiful game. This is a highly competitive hack'n'slash beat'em'up. There is next to no singleplayer apart from the tutorials but that isn't a bad thing (at the moment) since the community is still strong.

I was able to jump straight into a thirtytwo player match and start slashing and dueling people. It will take a few hours before you can even go toe to toe with anyone, and even then you probably will still get beaten. I have been playing for five hours now and I have only won about ten duels out of about a two hundred.

The graphics are truely amazing, and sound effects fit perfectly. Pick this up if you enjoy PVP in any sense of the word.

If you need to be convinced to buy this game, you won't play it for long. If you buy it instantly after looking at the trailer, you'll probably play it long enough to be satisfied with your purchase.

Pros:

Tight nit community that will make up for not being a large community if you fit into this niche

Solid combat system. There are some flaws but those won't matter to you unless you're talented enough to understand them. You'll likely be satisfied with the current combat system if you fit into the niche.

Pretty good graphics, especially for a 10 dollar game.

Workshop allows you to add in your own custom sword, mask, and armor designs.

Since this game is built on the source engine you can make your own maps

You can mod in mechanics to an extent




Cons:

There is almost no chance the community will grow past 30-50 active players. If you like the game and want to experience it with a larger community, that won't be a possibility.
