About This Game

Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes. Featuring the talents of comedian, actor and musician, Jack Black as super roadie Eddie Riggs, as well as cameos by some of the biggest names in metal music it's a wild ride in the belly of the beast that is not to be missed by gamers and Metalheads alike.

Included as a free bonus in the PC version of Brütal Legend are both the Hammer of Infinite Fate and Tears of the Hextadon multiplayer map packs.

Story

The vivid and wildly creative world of Brütal Legend is brought to life through a spate of chrome, leather, rocker babes, epic music, fire-breathing/stud-wearing beasts, mountains made of guitar amps, and more. Follow Eddie as he embarks on a tour of epic destruction with an axe, a guitar, and his minions as he commands the power of rock in epic band battles. It’s lighter-flicking awesomeness that will melt your face clean off.

Combat

Brütal Legend’s combat is a combination of classic action slasher and real time strategy mechanics. Melee and ranged combat come from your double-sided broadaxe and demon-slaying, pyrotechnic-creating guitar. Add that 1-2 punch to a guitar solo mechanic that can summon objects, buff your teammates, or cripple your opponents, and you have a deep, gratifying core gameplay combat loop that is fun for the hardcore and accessible for the casual. On top of that, players will journey from Roadie to Rock God by commanding legions of metalheads into Brütal Victory and sending troops charging into battle.

A Streaming Open World

Brütal Legend gives you the freedom to walk, drive, or fly anywhere in a fully streaming open world whose art style is inspired by some of the most iconic and hilariously rad metal album covers ever created. Every vista in the beautiful universe of Brütal Legend looks like it was pulled from a Frank Frazetta painting.

Packed With Cameos and Voice Talent

Brütal Legend is full of cameos from gods of metal like Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Lita Ford, and many, many others. It has a MASSIVE metal soundtrack from every era of metal music: 1970’s classic metal to 1980’s hair metal to the scarier cousins of 1990’s metal. And of course, Jack Black pays the ultimate homage to metal as Eddie the Roadie, continuing the theme from the work of his band, Tenacious D and his previous films like School of Rock and High Fidelity.

Multiplayer Mayhem

4v4 "skirmish" multiplayer marries action combat with a strategic unit-control mechanic. As the leader of one of the factions in the game, the player will direct his armies in a Battle of the Bands where the trophy is survival. Brütal Legend’s multiplayer is online-enabled, so you can conquer your friends online (broadband connection required for online play).

Music

The music in Brütal Legend is truly massive. Made up of 108 of the most rocking tracks from 75 different bands representing every sub-genre of metal, it is something to experience in and of itself.

Beatings, lawn, Heavy Metal and strategy? Double Fine united all in Brutal Legend.
A strange, hybrid of hack’n’slash action, real-time strategy and open-world racing/exploring.
The laughs leaving you with a story that is cool and bizarre but lacking in the bite of the opening scenes.

Graphically the game looks a bit better than the console versions due to the increased draw distances and a few other small improvements, but it is not visually impressive. I like the art style. Heads are chopped off, blood is splattered, and faces melted, but it's all in good fun. It looks OK for a game that came out in 2009, but it's 2014 now, so I think most people will expect more.

Brutal Legend follows a metal freak, which takes on an appropriately fantasy world. The first time you take control of Eddie, one might feel as if you are playing a rather standard action game, because mashes from simple combos is your way to bloody slaughter groups of enemies. The story takes plenty of twists and turns along the way and deals with some interesting themes of quiet heroism and personal sacrifice. There is a great open world where you die if you touch water and the only thing to do outside of the storyline is cloned minigames offers me the scope to go ♥♥♥♥ing nuts that it thinks it does. Collectors and obsessive compulsives will find plenty to do in Brutal Legend. There are many side quests (could be more variety) waiting to be accepted, appear helpful on the map, so you do not have to search around.

Brütal Legend looks wonderful, and it feels wonderful, but it isn’t quite wonderful, not really.
The game combine humor, music, clever gameplay and the voice is a great work. You haven't played a game like this before and won't want to miss it. Its not perfect but unique!

Score: 81 / 100

Awesome soundtrack of the best metal songs ever,
Awesome Hack'N'Slash gameplay with RTS elements,
Fantastic Heavy Metal open world,
Amazing voice actors ranging from Jack Black and Tim Curry to Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy.
The humor are just incredible, easily one of the best games ever.

One of those games that are smarter than they look.
Inside there is a ton of references, cool gameplay
moments, and good old METAL! Certainly give it a shoot,
for if you know who's the Great Ozzy is, or what is "Motorhead"
you will have a good time. And it's also one of the best
"in-style" games I've ever seen. Just look at the menu!!!

4 out of 5

One of the coolest games around. Brutal Legend combines Heavy Metal, Rock, Hack and Slash and RTS all in a massive and gorgeous apocalyptic open world.

Featuring a 20+ hour storyline and plenty to do after. Brutal Legend is definitely a gem in Double Fine's crown.

Loses points sadly due to requiring a controller to play, the keyboard and mouse is...do-able, but when it takes you three hours to do a simple racing mission, it's arguably not worth it.

I wish I would've played this sooner! I started it a long time ago, but it got lost in the backlog of steam sales and humble bundles, now the multiplayer portion seems pretty much dead. it is a shame too, because it is really fun. The campaign really grew on me too. It was an action game with a unique storyline and Brutal mode lived up to the name in my opinion. Money well spent.

This game is awesome. And so metal. Sooooo metal. The mix of free-roam, tactical skirmishes, strategic battles, hack&slash, and music works amazingly well. A huge surprise was that the characters were actually interesting and the story well worth playing through, unlike most games of this type (more like the games it draws from, because there are no other games like this).

This gets a recommandation without hesitation from me. My only regret is how long it took me to start playing it.

Heavy metal, women, more heavy metal, gore, battles, booze. your guitar shoots electricity and can summon a giant burning zepelin to crush them demons, summon your all migthy beast (car or animal) and ride them, f**king enemies up, more heavy metal, wield an axe that you may upgrade (with the rest of the stuff) to be a holy soul eating fu**, more heavy metal, swearing, teach the future chick who will kill you to french kiss, did i mention heavy metal?

PROS:

-SOUNDTRACK: Great soundtrack(the heavy metal songs and the overworld ones, very relaxing), actually a lot of ppl listens to heavy metal because of this game( like me)

-VOICE ACTING: Fu**ing great! It has JB( Jack black, Leader of the band Tenacious D with Kyle, actor in films like King Kong 2005 , The Pick of Destiny and voice actor of Kung Fu Panda, as Po) as Eddie Riggs, Kyle Gas( partner of Jack black) as the Cannoner and the random bat dad guy, Ozzy Osbrown( or something) as the keeper of secrets, Lemmy Kilmister as Kill Master, etc...

-GAMEPLAY: Good hack-n-slash game with an axe to hack and a guitar to shoot electricity because that rocks! You may summon your car (druidplower) and ♥♥♥♥ your enemies. The main missions are good, but a good propotion of them is to escort the Tour bus with your car and the battle Stages, that i will talk later. The side missions are also good, but some repetitive. There are the Ambush, Race, Hunting record and Cannon defence + the unique ones, but of there are only one each.

-COLLECTIBLES: Yes, there are dragons to free, with the gods of metal reward you with tribute and for every 10 dragons a upgrade (Health, regen, etc), Legends, to look the past and how was everything created, artwork, the Metal Songs, that add more songs to your soundtrack. and fairies, that give you tribute if you catch them.

-METAL FORGE: It is were you go and purchase upgrades for your car, axe and guitar + paintjobs(for the druidplower or your jacket), purchase cool moves and get some statues + Ozzy is in there...yes...

-STORY: The story is amazing, simple, but amazing, with a very good twist at the end( after the secondlast battle), tho it leaves you wanting a Brütal Legend 2( tho i doubt there will be).It is a 10-15 hour game, at least for me.

DLC( included in the game and only in the PC version): Adds some skins for Eddie Riggs, your car, axe, guitar, and statues+ 1 new weapon and a new ram for your car+ an eye that points you in the direction of a collectible, helps a lot.

CONS:
-GAMEPLAY: There's another part of the gameplay, it is the RTS one. In the Stages( battles) you can create units by getting fans from merchandise booths in fan gysers, and basicly your objective is to destroy the enemy Stage. It feels like it is out of place fot this type of game, but it is fun non-the less, gets repititive tho.

-MULTIPLAYER is dead, tho there are those 2 random persons from the forum who decided to do some achivements, the multiplayer is dead, tho it doesn't suprise me, as it is only the RTS part of the game, and as i said, it is out of place for this type of game and has a rly poor ranking that it also feels out of place. Only good thing is that it let's you try the other 2 factions (Tainted coil, my favourite, and the other one).

-BUGS: Yes, there are bugs, not a lot of them, but some, some haves you stuck between invisible walls.

-DIFFICULTY: It is easy even on Brütal( Tho the final Stage battle took me 3 tries, and with them i found the trick to beat it). Ofc you will need to get upgrades for your axe, guitar( tho for the final hours of gameplay you should have it upgraded to the max upgrade) and the Dragons for health upgrades and whatnot( if you don't get those ofc it will be hard).

Conclusion: Heavy metal will never die, 9/10.

After Psychonauts (which I personally loved) Double Fine amazed us again with this awesome title. Brütal Legend!!! In my opinion a game that every Metalhead should play. Many hours of action and some simple strategy gameplay, which I found exciting and interesting of course. Starring Jack Black (As Eddie Riggs), with the guidance of various Metal Gods (for example : Rob Halford) and with an long and marvelous Metal playlist you will have lots of fun. The game amazed me

I give this game 9/10

Brutal Legend is better than it’s ever been, both as a single-player open-world game unlike any you’ve ever played and as one of the best unique takes on real-time strategy since Sacrifice.

The most f*ing metal game you'll ever play.

Do you really need more than that?

Seriously?

Well, okay. The game is a bit of a mix between open world adventure and strategy game, all played in 3rd person mode, so if you don't like mixed games or specially dislike some of those parts you might not like the game. Otherwise, is a fantastic piece of art.

An adventüre game püblished by EA, Brütal Legend püts you in the shoes of Jack Black who finds himself in a fantasy world after a serious accident. I like how ünique this world is - it is inspired by hündreds of heavy metal albüm covers. Of course, the müsic is just metal - you have a cüstomisable hot rod and when in the car excellent müsic is being played.

Jack Black's character has to become the leader of the hümans of this world and must lead them against some süperhüman beings. The game is like GTA i.e. free roam üntil you approach a güest giver NPC. Then a cütscene is shown and after that your mission begins. You have a guitar and you have a chance to acquire some unique abilities - the game employs real-time strategy elements, too; controlling troops is important as you alone cannot always complete the mission.

I have yet to complete the game, but it is sooo ridiculously over the top that it is a müst have!

Put simply, this is one of the finest games I've ever played. A solid third-person brawler with RTS and RPG elements, it tops off its winning formula with a killer soundtrack comprised of 70's metal and 80's hair band tunes that will be running through your head for hours after a play session. Look for cameos by major names in the music industry, including Ozzy as the Guardian of Metal! Main character Eddie, a rodie-turned-messiah, is voiced by Jack Black and is one of the most likable protagonists in years.Lemmy Kilmister as Kill Master and many others too.Thank you Tim Schafer and Double Fine for this game!!!And metal history too!
