Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes.

About This Game

Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes. Featuring the talents of comedian, actor and musician, Jack Black as super roadie Eddie Riggs, as well as cameos by some of the biggest names in metal music it's a wild ride in the belly of the beast that is not to be missed by gamers and Metalheads alike.

Included as a free bonus in the PC version of Brütal Legend are both the Hammer of Infinite Fate and Tears of the Hextadon multiplayer map packs.

Story

The vivid and wildly creative world of Brütal Legend is brought to life through a spate of chrome, leather, rocker babes, epic music, fire-breathing/stud-wearing beasts, mountains made of guitar amps, and more. Follow Eddie as he embarks on a tour of epic destruction with an axe, a guitar, and his minions as he commands the power of rock in epic band battles. It’s lighter-flicking awesomeness that will melt your face clean off.

Combat

Brütal Legend’s combat is a combination of classic action slasher and real time strategy mechanics. Melee and ranged combat come from your double-sided broadaxe and demon-slaying, pyrotechnic-creating guitar. Add that 1-2 punch to a guitar solo mechanic that can summon objects, buff your teammates, or cripple your opponents, and you have a deep, gratifying core gameplay combat loop that is fun for the hardcore and accessible for the casual. On top of that, players will journey from Roadie to Rock God by commanding legions of metalheads into Brütal Victory and sending troops charging into battle.

A Streaming Open World

Brütal Legend gives you the freedom to walk, drive, or fly anywhere in a fully streaming open world whose art style is inspired by some of the most iconic and hilariously rad metal album covers ever created. Every vista in the beautiful universe of Brütal Legend looks like it was pulled from a Frank Frazetta painting.

Packed With Cameos and Voice Talent

Brütal Legend is full of cameos from gods of metal like Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Lita Ford, and many, many others. It has a MASSIVE metal soundtrack from every era of metal music: 1970’s classic metal to 1980’s hair metal to the scarier cousins of 1990’s metal. And of course, Jack Black pays the ultimate homage to metal as Eddie the Roadie, continuing the theme from the work of his band, Tenacious D and his previous films like School of Rock and High Fidelity.

Multiplayer Mayhem

4v4 "skirmish" multiplayer marries action combat with a strategic unit-control mechanic. As the leader of one of the factions in the game, the player will direct his armies in a Battle of the Bands where the trophy is survival. Brütal Legend’s multiplayer is online-enabled, so you can conquer your friends online (broadband connection required for online play).

Music

The music in Brütal Legend is truly massive. Made up of 108 of the most rocking tracks from 75 different bands representing every sub-genre of metal, it is something to experience in and of itself.

Brütal Legend is awesome and metal. Brütal Legend is also a mediocre and forgettable open world/hack & slash/strategy game. A prime example why Steam needs a “meh” button for the reviews.

Long version:
Brütal Legend is a tribute to metal. Not cash-in whiny pop metal, but real, classic, early seventies, head-banging, engine-worshipping, leather-winged heavy metal. It is a temple for bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, or Motörhead– just to name a few from the in-game soundtrack.

This game is so metal that its cast has such names as Jack Black as the protagonist, Rob Halford as the first main boss, and Ozzy Osbourne as the shopkeeper. This game is so metal that the entire landscape is never-ending scenery of heavy metal album covers. This game is probably as metal as metal you can get without dipping your computer in molten steel.

Brütal Legend is also incredibly mediocre. It wants to combine three genres: GTA style open world exploration/driving, hack & slash brawling, and real-time strategy. The problem is that it isn’t remotely good in any of those.
The brawling is dumb, although fun: you mindlessly mash two buttons and hope that the enemy runs out of health faster than you do.
The RTS part consists of spawning an endless stream of units until one army reaches the end of the battlefield to wreck the opponent’s production stage. To be frank, it is downright boring.
Still, the driving takes the cake. The controls are worse than you can imagine (worse than Borderlands could ever be), and when you have to race on narrow platforms over bottomless pits… get yourself a pack of Xanax.

I wouldn’t call Brütal Legend bad… the soundtrack and most of the plot about leading a metal-fuelled revolution against the demon-like oppressors can easily entertain you from start to finish, but you will always have the feeling that the game mechanics could have been a lot better.

As Giant Metal Fan, you can name me Metalhead with short hair and not looking like night without moon, i got INCREDIBLE fun playing Brutal Legend, it was piece of Metal, sandbox, rts, racing ♥♥♥♥ing metal/viking/fantasy adventure, that got me sucked in. Game is ♥♥♥♥ing greate, fun sandbox with giant world, much thinks to do, with little boring fight system, fun racing, fun strategy, good lenght story and list goes bigger. As you can see, i loved this game, i never give a rating on games, so instead i will give lyrics for most man metal song ♥♥♥♥in ever. (Oh, and of course game have best soundtrack ever, just if you dont know.)
Quit my job this morning said forever
I would hold my head up high
Cause i need metal in my life
Just like an eagle needs to fly

So i walked outside into the street
From a hall i heard thunder and screams
I walked inside so i could hear
And the guy beside me gave me a beer

He had his fist up in the air
And called me brother said my friends
Are over there

They call themselves immortals
They’re the truest of the true
And in that very moment
I was born again like you

They said hold your head up high
Raise your fist up in the air
Play metal louder than hell
Louder than hell

They can’t stop us
Let ’em try
For heavy metal
We would die!

Brothers stand beside me, there’s a battle on
Know my words are true
There’s a battle for true metal
They’re marching; they’re marching on
Me and you

Ten thousand strong are here tonight
With twenty thousand fists up in the air
The power of true metal’s calling you
It’s everywhere

Hold your head up high
Raise your fist up in the air
Play metal louder than hell
Louder than hell

They can’t stop us
Let ’em try
For heavy metal
We would die!

Burtal Legend:
Well.... THIS GAME ROCKS!! LITERALLY!
I have to admit that at first I though this is another little kids game, but once you play it you really cant stop.
The gameplay is really fun and it has a great story and all, but the best part of the game is, of course, the music.
The music of this game is actually the whole point of the game, that you're a rock legend that needs to fight the evil with the power of Rock N' Roll and Metal (OZZY!!!).
The Soundtrack of this game, the songs and bands, so many bands that I love like DragonForce and Black Sabbath.. Oh man... To all the rock and metal music lovers among us - This game is highly recommended!!!
