About This Game

Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes. Featuring the talents of comedian, actor and musician, Jack Black as super roadie Eddie Riggs, as well as cameos by some of the biggest names in metal music it's a wild ride in the belly of the beast that is not to be missed by gamers and Metalheads alike.

Included as a free bonus in the PC version of Brütal Legend are both the Hammer of Infinite Fate and Tears of the Hextadon multiplayer map packs.

Story

The vivid and wildly creative world of Brütal Legend is brought to life through a spate of chrome, leather, rocker babes, epic music, fire-breathing/stud-wearing beasts, mountains made of guitar amps, and more. Follow Eddie as he embarks on a tour of epic destruction with an axe, a guitar, and his minions as he commands the power of rock in epic band battles. It’s lighter-flicking awesomeness that will melt your face clean off.

Combat

Brütal Legend’s combat is a combination of classic action slasher and real time strategy mechanics. Melee and ranged combat come from your double-sided broadaxe and demon-slaying, pyrotechnic-creating guitar. Add that 1-2 punch to a guitar solo mechanic that can summon objects, buff your teammates, or cripple your opponents, and you have a deep, gratifying core gameplay combat loop that is fun for the hardcore and accessible for the casual. On top of that, players will journey from Roadie to Rock God by commanding legions of metalheads into Brütal Victory and sending troops charging into battle.

A Streaming Open World

Brütal Legend gives you the freedom to walk, drive, or fly anywhere in a fully streaming open world whose art style is inspired by some of the most iconic and hilariously rad metal album covers ever created. Every vista in the beautiful universe of Brütal Legend looks like it was pulled from a Frank Frazetta painting.

Packed With Cameos and Voice Talent

Brütal Legend is full of cameos from gods of metal like Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Lita Ford, and many, many others. It has a MASSIVE metal soundtrack from every era of metal music: 1970’s classic metal to 1980’s hair metal to the scarier cousins of 1990’s metal. And of course, Jack Black pays the ultimate homage to metal as Eddie the Roadie, continuing the theme from the work of his band, Tenacious D and his previous films like School of Rock and High Fidelity.

Multiplayer Mayhem

4v4 "skirmish" multiplayer marries action combat with a strategic unit-control mechanic. As the leader of one of the factions in the game, the player will direct his armies in a Battle of the Bands where the trophy is survival. Brütal Legend’s multiplayer is online-enabled, so you can conquer your friends online (broadband connection required for online play).

Music

The music in Brütal Legend is truly massive. Made up of 108 of the most rocking tracks from 75 different bands representing every sub-genre of metal, it is something to experience in and of itself.

Brutal Legend can be the greatest tribute ever made to the Heavy Metal music genre. The landscape, the characters, the history, the gameplay and of course the soundtrack merges brilliantly to deliver a game that is a must play for fans of the genre.

Although the RTS can be annoying at some times, it is easy to get the hang of it. The playability on the controller is infinitely simpler than on the PC, so I strongly recommend you take out the dust of your joypad for this one.

To summarize, ♥♥♥♥ING EPIC!!!

PS.: As many have stated, yes, you can ride a mammoth. And a black panther that shoots lasers through his eyes.

Brütal Legend is Jack Black's open world, Metal Apocalypse, video game. His finger prints are definitely all over it which I was glad to see. He plays the main character who is a roadie, wielding his guitar as a ranged weapon and his literal axe as his melee weapon. It was a very entertaining game, I loved the voice acting and cut scenes. His humor comes through in a great way and in my opinion was the shining feature of the game.

There were some different styles of gameplay incorporated. In the main campaign there are some battles that turn into an RTS type of showdown. I was surprised by this at first but it actually played pretty well. I do have my problems with some of the gameplay though. The traversal was something that just didn't really feel all that great to me. The handling of the car wasn't so good and you would have to drive it in narrow places at times and that became very frustrating. I also thought they could have done a better job of incorporating combos in the hand to hand combat, it just didn't have that type of connected feeling where you could string together a bunch of attacks and counters.

Those beefs aside I did enjoy many different features in the game. You play guitar riffs, in a way that I thought was reminiscent of Ocarina of Time, to accomplish different tasks. You can pump up your army in the RTS mode, summon your car, or melt the faces off of your foes with a wicked solo. They also have a pretty sick upgrading system for your character and car that is introduced and run by someone that you might find familiar.

There were some really cool little legends that you can listen too that sound like some kind of Metal Mythology. I thought this was a nice touch and it gives some background to the strange land you find yourself wondering. All in all it was a very Jack Black game, and I totally enjoyed it and was glad to have given it a shot. It didn't strike me when it first released as something for me, but the almighty power of the Steam Summer sale made me reconsider. It proved itself to me as a legit video game and not just some celebrity endorsed junk.

Brütal Legend is a game that tries to combine hack-and-slash with real time strategy. The end result is a cluster♥♥♥♥ that lacks both the mindless brütality of butchering your way through hordes of enemies, as well as any real strategic depth. I ♥♥♥♥ing love metal, and the game's aesthetics and humor, character design, soundtrack - it's amazing. Everything about this game is amazing, except the gameplay. I really enjoyed the start of the game, where it plays solely like a hack-and-slash. Cranked up the difficulty to max and comboed my way through hordes of enemies, and fun bosses. But then the game shoves its weird psuedo-strategy thing in your face, and from that point on most of the game consists almost solely of these so-called "stage battles".

The strategy ultimately boils down to rushing down your opponent all day every day, with one huge blob of units. Even if there was room for more elaborate strategies than "send all the dudes forwards", your overview of the battlefield, combined with the hectic hack-and-slash pace of it all makes it impossible to stop and focus for any given moment. You'll find yourself in a situation, then, where you're just trying to charge at enemies and at least enjoy the hack-and-slash - only to realize that everything the game has taught you so far about combos, timing your blocks, and so on, is ultimately pointless. Your only way to make any sizeable difference in a fight is to use "Double Team" - ie. taking control of one or several of your units and spamming their one or two attacks. At least solos are still fun.

Bottom line, this game, on paper, might just be the best video game ever made. Though in practice it turns out that hack-and-slash and real time strategy simply do not blend. If we ever get a Brütal Legend which focuses solely on one type of gameplay at a time - preferrably the hack-and-slash - then I might just give the team my entire wallet and call it a day. Until then, might wanna dodge this one.

We all love heavy metal, we all love a good open world game and we all love a good hack and slash game. When a game has all these combined, how could you ♥♥♥♥ up?

Well, simply put it, our man Tim Schafer, found a way to do it.

This is a game that tried to combine 3rd Person Hack and Slash, with strategy. The game expects you to enjoy exploring it's world while killing enemies, and then decide to ♥♥♥♥ing release ♥♥♥♥♥torm each time you progress in the game to a boss fight. The boss fights are terribly made RTS battles that have no enjoyability, and will only ♥♥♥♥ you off. Incredibly easy to win technically..., but moving around and navigating in them is a real pain in the ♥♥♥ making winning the battles insanely hard and annoying.

Oh, but you get wings to help you navigate on the RTS parts... Except that you will use to travel to help your army every second, and thanks to that they give you absolutely no advantage or help, just more things you need to do. Fun.

The side missions are repetitive, and after a while there will be the same old lines stuck in your head for they repeat the same sentences each side mission. After listening to the same sentences each time you get the same mission as the other side missions. Also super fun.

Car controls are also absolute trash and after a while might give some motion sickness. At least my friend felt like puking. The handling is god awful and looks terrible.

This could have been great if they just made this your average hack and slash game if they added more actual content and instead of shoving RTS in there... Just make the boss fights normal like every other game, just didn't work at all for this game.

No, this game having metal in it doesn't justify how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it is.

Brutal Legend is a very charming game filled with funny moments and feels like it was made with so much love.

Unfortunately, as funny and as cared about the game is, the fact that there is basically 3 missions in the game, that just slightly reskin and increase the difficulty, gets very tiresome after a while.

The three missions are - Heard up a wild beast, Escort a van and protect it from attacking monsters and RTS tower defence type mission. For a while it was fine but after 6 hours of the same 3 missions, it got too repetetive to bare. I had a lot of fun with this game for about 5 hours, so it might be worth picking it up on sale, but don't expect something groundbreaking and prepare for monotony.

Pretty great game. Battle can get a little repetitive, but you can continually unlock new attack combos and weapons for your car, which helps keep it interesting. Also, I'm only (I'd guess) a quarter way through the main storyline, so keep that in mind.

Excellent voice acting, so even the cut scenes are entertaining, and the option of whether to include or censor swearing and gore made me laugh, but also - pretty cool that you can choose.

Compelling storyline has me pretty hooked, and the game is open world in between quests - you can drive around in your car (or walk/run if you prefer...) across the landscape, smashing ♥♥♥♥ up and discovering relics and making mad ramp jumps :D

There's not really anything that is a turn off about this game. Even as someone who never really listened to much metal, I'm enjoying a lot of the music in the game and can always turn the car radio off or skip a song which is appealling.

All in all, highly recommend. This game is so metal.

The concept seemed fun and awesome so I bought it. 15 minutes into the game, I was already regretting the purchase. Controls are clunky, and very unnatural. I just plainly didn't have fun playing it.

All your crazy Metal fantasies put together in an awesome game. A mix of 3rd person and RTS.

Lots of references and jokes only fans will understand.

Even if it's not perfect it's worth the 15€ just for the sake of Metal.
