Nascar The Game: 2013 brings us a door2door oval racing experience that can be challenging, but it's frustrating due to problems it has.
Yes, I've played this game a lot. When you get into it, it's not just "driving to the left", but it does provide decent amount of challenge with Ai drivers (when they work as they should), and adrenalline filling experience by trying to get better position. There are 43 cars on the track and it's easy to crash into somebody and cause a pile up. Well, sounds great, doesn't it? But there are lots of problems that we just simply cannot overlook. First of all, Ai. Sometimes they're over-agressive, sometimes they are too slow, and sometimes they are stupid enough to blindly crash at certain tracks into a wall causing a Caution and restart. This is pretty stupid, considering that when the Ai works, game shines, gives you decent fun and challenge. When cars start to crash into your rear quaterpanel, it gets frustrating to the point of even shutting down and deleting the game from HDD. Game is VERY unbalanced. On some tracks Ai is slow, on some it's too fast even on easy difficulty. When you're qualifying, sometimes you end up first even on hard, which is unnaceptable because I was playing on keyboard. Sometimes Ai is too agressive and doesn't use brakes at all and crash into you or other opponents, causing massive pile up. They just slam into you. If it weren't for ai, this game could be best NASCAR game to date.
Graphics are Ok. Textures are nice, not that blurry. Models are nicely detailed. Game has awesome audio departament. When you even touch car in front, it actually feels like it and has a decent "punch". The mechanic on radio who gives you instructions doesn't annoy you, he is helpful enough to make you aware. Damage could use some polishing too because while sounds are great, deformations and effects of collions are not really good. You can blow tire and need to pit. Sometimes you just scratch the wall and you end up disqualified due to damaged vehicle (which is stupid). You can also DNF other vehicles, but it's rather rare and unrealistic. Overall damage model is bad and should be improved in next game. Optimisation-wise it's nice, but a lot people report crashing when pitting which is annoying, considering that this issue was acknowledged by developers but hasn't been resolved.
Career mode is lacking too. It does have car upgrade, but nothing more than that. You cannot even use you own repaint (even if there is nicely done paint booth that gives you countless possibilities to make your own dream repaint). You're forced to one that game dictates you to. There is also no crew improvement or management which is dissapointing.
Physics are well done. Car reacts to bumps, has nice suspension work, and actually has the feel of weight. Xbox 360 controller works here OK, but there are lots of people that have problem setting it up. It's worth mentioning that some of the common steering wheels doesn't work, which is also stupid, considering that this game is meant to be played with a wheel to get most out of it.
Multiplayer is really buggy and unplayable with more than 1 player. Other players often are miles ahead of the actual position, there are lots of lags, and fake crashes (game shows that player spins, but in fact he does not). There are TONS of bugs, which is shame.
Overall, game lacks a lot. Lots of promises by Eutechnyx that hasn't been delivered. Repaint DLC's are not worth the asking price (5,99 Euro each), and game itself is not woth the price aswell at this point. Developers tried to resolve issues with this game, but they failed, and there are no more patches after DLC's releases, which is dissapointing because this game has a lot of potential. In it's current state it's barely 5/10, but in beta it was much better, reaching even 8/10. There is no excuse for it now, as it is released.
Waste of money, and sadly waste of potential. It's pretty sad example of game abandoned too early by developer trying to grab our money for product that barely works.
