This game is an experience that every person should have. From the start to the finish, from it's narrative to it's visuals and it's mechanics, Brothers will hook you. It's a gut wrenching tale of two brothers who set out on a story to save their father. With absolutely gorgeous visuals, a story that'll tug on your heart-strings, and the only example of a game that uses it's controls to tell a story, I cannot recommend this game enough.

*It is highly recommended you play this game with a controller.

I purchased this game for 1.00$ on the Steam Summer Sale and I have never received as much value from spending 1.00$ on anything in my life. The game only takes about 4 hours to complete but it was an enjoyable experience for the whole ride.

The controls and gameplay are simple enough and easy to learn, but uniquely rewarding in a relatively addicting way. You control both characters simultaneously (through each half of the controller being dedicated to one of the brothers) as they explore a fully-fleshed out fantasy world on their quest to obtain a mythical medicine to heal their sick father. The gameplay is puzzle-exploration oriented with fluid control over the characters that's just a pleasure to play.

It's very much an artistic game with the environments all exquisitely designed and full of details to appreciate or interact with. Each chapter of the game takes you through unique settings with it's own creative aesthetics that all feel superbly fleshed-out, making every step of the journey its own jubilant experience. The soundtrack is beautiful and does well to tie everything together from an artistic perspective.

With regards to the story, it's very rare for a game to have as good of a story as this one. There isn't actually any formal dialogue in the game and yet the characters manage to say more with their emotions and body language than most story-driven games are able to with hours and hours of recorded voice-acting. By the end of the game I was emotionally invested in the well-being of the characters and the outcome of their quest and the game had done an unprecedentedly good job of making each of the two brothers their own unique individual.

By the end of the experience you'll have no regrets about playing this game. For one dollar on sale, I can't recommend a better way to spend your money. Even payed at full price, this is a unique classic that you don't want to miss out on. I honestly have zero complaints about the game.

My advice - I fully recommend you purchase and play this game. Thanks for reading and enjoy!

The best exaple, how games can have their own narration i have seen so far. Even the controls are a huge part of it.

10/10 would cry at the credit screen again

PS: Awesome Soundtrack,

[Spoiler tags are actual spoilers]

It didn't hit me when he died.

It didn't hit me when it made me bury him.

It hit me when it made me take his controls.

You will likely never get used to how this game controls, but I didn\'t realize just how strongly something so simple as keybindings could support a narrative.

There is and will never be a platformer as emotionally devastating as Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Truly, it is a remarkable experience that won't hit you where it hurts until it needs to.

● Superb storytelling.
● Lovely visuals.
● Simple but interesting puzzles.
● Subtle but pleasant soundtrack.
● And perhaps most importantly: innovative gameplay mechanic which ties the controls to the narrative.

I proclaimed this my game of the year in 2013 when I played it on console and replaying it on PC now I would still rank it highly among my video game favourites. Such a unique, spectacular game.

I have bought the game maybe two years ago, when I read good reviews about it and when it went on sale on steam. I have just played it on my new lenovo gaming laptop. I am only mentioning this because I thought the visuals were gorgeous, and it deserve to be played on a good PC. (Mine comes with Nvidia 960)
I was amazed by the story and emotions involved in the game. It might not be very obvious at the beginning of the game, but trust me it surprisingly gets epic. Although the game has no narrator nor it uses a known language, it communicates the story very fluently through the scenes. I want to say more but I think I might run into spoiling the story for the reader.
I highly advise buying and playing this game. I also highly recommend playing it with a joypad. I first played it with a keyboard and I almost gave up on it. It was really confusing to play on a keyboard and I couldn’t control the players properly. The puzzles seem to be more enjoyable when played with a joypad, and it seems that the way the creators intended it to be.
If I ever want to criticize anything about the game, it would be that I wanted to have more puzzles and a little more complication to come with them.
Final verdict:
9.5

A beautiful, moving story woven into a masterful piece of artwork. The gameplay mechanics are creative and fun to play, once you get the hang of it. The lack of tutorials might be bothersome in the beginning, but makes the game much more immersive till the end. The soundtrack is illuminating as well. Has some replayability value too, though they could've included some more achievements. A must have in your library!

A fantastic novella-length adventure game, in which the clever gameplay is ultimately just a question of unfolding the story rather than an end in itself. I often dislike games of the scripted, on-rails type, but this one is perfectly paced and uniquely immersive. It lacks the courage and follow-through of what I assume must be its inspiration in Lindgren's "Brothers Lionheart", and because it is mute it is more abstract and like a fable, but as far as narratives in games go, this is 10/10.

A work of extraordinary beauty and imagination. The epic story, gorgeous world and poignant moments more than excuse a few wonky puzzles.

Amazing story, good controls that tie in to the narrative. A short yet enjoyable game.
Note: A controller is required for the best experience.
