Brothers is a deceptively simple puzzle platformer that has quite a bit going on under the covers. Its story is told almost entirely wordlessly, with a lot of little side excursions that paint a world of fairytales that is actually quite dark. Don't let the bright graphics and cartoony characters fool you -- while there are some funny and uplifting moments, this is not a feel good game. It's not deliberately out to depress you either, but it's more brothers Grimm than brothers Warner. I'm not saying you shouldn't let your kids play it, but I am saying you may want to look over their shoulder if they do.

Believe it or not, this is the game I bought a controller for. I borrowed one to see if the game was any good (it was) and then I completed it after buying one for myself. It's not easy to convince a hardcore mouse and keyboard guy to twiddle the sticks, so it deserves credit at least for that. It deserves some more credit for possibly being the very first game to use its control scheme to evoke an emotional response. I can't get into details (spoilers!) but you'll know it when you get there. It's beautifully done, and you'd need to have a heart of stone not to be at least a little bit affected. If you remember "press F to pay respects", this is pretty much the exact opposite of that.

The gameplay is just about right. It's not very challenging, but it's not a cakewalk between cutscenes either. The game does make the most of its controls, and coordinating two characters requires your full attention. Liberal use of checkpoints means you're not likely to get frustrated from having to replay bits, though. If the game was much longer the mechanics might wear thin, but its length works to its advantage here. My only gripe, if I can have one, is that one or two achievements are almost impossible to obtain without a guide, not because they require skill but because they require some very unintuitive actions. Still, this in no way detracts from the experience on your first playthrough, and the game allows you to replay chapters at will, so those who want the achievements can get them easily enough.

Whether you want to pay the full $15 for 4-5 hours of game is up to you, but even if you want to wait for a sale (or another bundle), this deserves to be in your library at some point or another. Two thumbs up, one big and one little.

Not family friendly!
Nonetheless, a great short game with great mechanics.
The views are absolutely beautiful.
This game is emotional.

Also, it is best to play it with your friend, or even better, your BROTHER.
Worth my money.
Have my thumbs up, Starbreeze

Damn this game hits you right in the feels.
Sure, the 2 player mechanics may be awkward at times but they really incorporate the controls into the story.

Definitely a must-play for anyone with a 360 controller.

Weird game to be honest, not a usual type of genre i would play, however after playing this, it really makes me want to play similar games, as this couldnt keep the fun going long enough.
The only bad point about this game is it's length but i got it for $1 through Humble Bundle so i am not complaining.

Everything else is brilliant, from the artstyle to the gameplay mechanics. Really intuitive, therefore i would hightly recommend this game to anyone wanting a nice story...

Summary:

Short indie adventure from Starbreeze that perfects the unique art of telling its compelling and evocative story through its gameplay. A gorgeous world, stunning soundtrack, and a truly captivating finale which will leave you speechless really make this title stand out. The emotionally powerful ending alone - again sculpted by the player controlling the gameplay - makes this is not one to miss. Controller heavily recommended.

Rating:

1 - A masterpiece. An essential purchase for everyone.

2 - Great game. Highly recommended to most people.

3 - Fairly good game. Recommended mainly for fans of the genre or when on sale.

4 - Poor game. Not recommended but has a few merits.

5 - Awful game. Would not recommend to anyone in their right minds.

IT'S BEAUTIFUL!

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons is an immersive single player adventure/puzzle game.
Small (About 2 or 3 hours of gameplay) and easy to play, also doesn't require a powerful machine, its recommended to anyone.

It's beautiful at all, the history deals with the death of loved ones, and how the protagonists deal with it. The design is simple, but at the same time; awesome. AESTHETIC And the soundtrack... oh man, it's one of the best soundtracks I ever listened.

If you are the kind of person who likes a sentimental history, I highly recommend this game.

The side-quests achievments kinda breaks with the tragedy plot, but at the same time fun, making me laugh sometimes, I don't consider that as a negative point, but it can breaks the immersion.

In conclusion, that game is amazing, it puts me in a sad but happy strange mood, wasn't expecting all this when I bought it. Would buy again.

It's short but it's sweet. I feel like it's the perfect length for what it set out to do.

A lovely story game filled with heart, beautiful graphics and great music.

My only complaint would be that puzzles aren't really challenging but that doesn't really detract from the type of game that Brothers - Tale of Two Sons sets out to be.

Oh, this game.
Let's cut to the chase, it's short, You can play through the story on less than 2 hours, so don't buy it if you want a long game. I played the first hour myself at home, and I was quite surprised at the shortness of it, tbh.
That's pretty much the only negative thing I can actually think of though.

The visuals are amazing, Starbreeze did a fantastic job, and the story was surprisingly good and so much darker than I had imagined when I got it. Josef Fares made good movies, but they're comedies, so like, I didn't expect much of a deep story from him. I'm glad I was wrong.

OK, story time! I have an eight year old cousin, and since he likes to play Mario and other of Nintendo's more puzzle-ish games I thought he and I could play this one together. Those of you who have tried this game know how the controls work, and it's actually easier to play this game with two hands from two different bodies than two hands from the same body(all puzzle games should have a ♥♥♥♥ed control system that takes 5 years to get used to, it was fun as hell ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) so we had a go at the game.
And then we came close to the ending, and that's when you suddenly realise that the game has PEGI 16 for a reason, first one in a while eh, and holy ♥♥♥♥ was it ♥♥♥♥ed. I know my cousin had played GTA and ♥♥♥♥ with his friends who are blessed with teen brothers, but this is not that kind of "justified age limit". Long story short, after this game he and I discussed life, death and depression.

Replayability is high on this one, the stages are really fun, and to try to replay the toughest stages and get all the achievements are just two reasons to replay. When you've finished the game you can choose with chapter to play, if you want to do just that!

All in all, if you love medieval styled games with depressing stories about love and loss, and incredibly designed strategic puzzles, buy this. If you want a long game though, maybe you should stay away.

I liked the storytelling, but as a game... it's not much more than a walking simulator, when got used to play two characters at once.

<SPOILER>
And I thought, do I really have to finish this defenseless spider...

Excellent game so far. However, if you're planning on playing with a Steam Controller, you're going to have a bad time. As others have stated, you'll really need a gamepad with 2 analog sticks. I got stuck at a portion of the game that won't work unless I use a controller with two analog sticks.

Find a few hours to play through this game. Masterfully done, profoundly heart felt, and does a better job of marrying game mechanics to narrative than any game I've ever played. Best played through in one sitting in my opinion. About 3 hours start to finish. Controller absolutely required.

Very enjoyable and atmospheric game.
Beautiful scenery, music and story.
You get rewarded for exploring and interacting with the world.
Somewhat short, and you need a controller to play, but that shouldn't stop you from playing it.

Interesting and original puzzles, incredible one-of-a-kind storytelling, marvellous soundtrack.

You definitely should play and complete this game. It's rarely to find that much worthy of doing so.
