A title that really stands out in a crowd of adventure games for me.The game that starts out very cheerful but soon dramatically changes its tone.

The story is told through a fictional language and therefore you dont know what the hell is your objective at the beginning. So the only thing you have left is to press on as you first play around with fellow villagers and end up meeting creatures from various fairytales.

The puzzles here are fairly simple and mostly involve simultaneous controll of both characters (much like rest of the game).

+Absolutely beautiful visuals
+Endearing characters
-3 hours long.I always expect the games i play to be at least 5 hours
-Ending is a dissapointment

Overall if the journey beats the destination then the game is a jewel. If you are looking for a challenge, however, you will find none.

Wonderful, beautiful. The only point I was nervous about was the required controller since I'm usually only keyboard and mouse. But adjusting to to it was 100% worth it. Great game.

This is a beautiful game in many ways. The soundtrack and scenery is fantastic. I could just sit and watch the world around me. The concept of playing two characters at one time is not only unique but executed very well in the game. While the main characters barely speak you get emotionally attached to them and the goal they are trying to achieve. The only complaint that I had was that sometimes the camera angles were wonky, but it never prevented me from figuring out the puzzles. Overall, it is a unique, emotional experience that is definitely worth the money.

Had so much fun playing this game with my brother. I used a controller and he used a keyboard. Loved the graphics. The story was too short but that didn't make it any less fun.
I just wish it was made for two players (two controllers).
I hope the game developers work on a sequel or something similar but equally enjoyable.

Fantastic game... the game play is challenging enough without being annoying, and the story itself is touching.
Great scenery and lots of cute surprises keep the pace moving along; puzzle-type games arent my favorite, since they sometimes seem too complicated just for the sake of being complicated. The puzzles here are well presented and the solution makes sense when applied to the problem you need to solve.

You can finish in 3-4 hours.

I got this on sale For $4 and it is worth every penny.
I recommend this game, but being that it can be completed in 4 hours (or less), Im not sure if I would pay $14.99 for it.

My ONLY complaint is that I wish the game would have been muck longer.

Warning: It will hit you in the feels.

What a lovely game.

It has a unique gameplay system, where you control two characters at the same time with one gamepad.
At the beginning it may be a little confusing, but you will get used to it.

The storyline is quite touching. Very emotional, from the beginning until the end.

I must say, this is a must play. You will not be disappointed with this experience.

That's what I would call this - an experience. A beautiful one.

If you like to see a great story than this game is for you. It has muisc and a fantastic looking world and a inovative game play. You play one of the two brothers with just one fo the controler stiocks and actions must be coordianted with both brothers to venture forth thorugh the story. Although this game has no narative it tells the story just with the music and the characters you meet on the way.

The story is a bit short and therefore not worth the 15 €. But if it is in a sale again i would recommend to buy it.

Alright, let's do this.

Take a deep breath. Relax. Now breath out.

As far as things concerned, games of nowadays are making you either angry (or rather frustrated) because of their challenge, or happy (or rather proud of yourself) when those challenges are through. Other then that it's just a bunch of copy-this-and-paste-that mechanics. One can encounter a rare gem of a very good game with an intersting story and compelling characters. They're not making many of them, but still. Amidst those gems is this game. And when I say "gem" about it, I mean "crown jewel".

It's unique. No matter how hardened you are, the game will find a place in your heart, a door long forgotten, and will kick it open with a bang. It will tour you to some dark places, grim and solemn; and yet it will show you that there's always a hope.

It won't give you headache, won't make you feel a real hero and most of all, a winner. But it will give you an experience like no other, the one you will never forget.

Emotions. Now I remember them.

I have to say, Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons has some of the best gameplay elements I've ever seen! It's just like a regular RPG, but as you probably already know, instead of just controlling just one character, or brother, at a time, you control both at the same time. The puzzles that were designed around this gameplay mechanic are awesome and really fun to do, along with the immersing story and well developed atmosphere.

The main plot is set around two brothers, or two sons, that are on a quest to save their father, who is deathly ill. Their mother had drowned previously and the brothers don't want to lose their dad as well, so they set out to find the special liquid from a magical tree, which is the only thing that can save him. There are absolutely no distinguishable words throughout the whole game, apart from some basic instructions on how to control both brothers at the very start, but the story is still super smooth and easy to follow, so the lack of words won't mess up your understanding of what’s going on. No spoilers here, but the story of the brothers and their “adventures” is really good, you might even cry.

There are enough levels included in the game to make it long enough. It's only around 3-5 hours, but I reckon it's just the right length to keep a story as this one interesting. Every level is a new experience and there are always new things to do, even with the basic controls, (you only use the triggers and thumb sticks). Hang gliding, throwing balls down wells, riding mountain goats and sitting on benches and looking at the view are only some of the things you can do to keep yourself entertained in this amazing game.

So, the real question is, should you buy this game? Absolutely, I guarantee you'll have a great time with it. It's a little short, but don't let that stop you from getting it. There a many memories to be made as you play this.

A short and easy game with depressing story and very pretty visuals. I feel like 15€ is a bit too much due to being very short and having no replay value, I recommend getting it if it's on sale.

Also, the notice on the store page is bull****, it works perfectly fine with a keyboard.

tl;dr version - Go get it! And if you can, play with a controller over a keyboard. (CAN be played with a keyboard despite the way it's been advertised)

A beautiful game that's focused mostly on the story and creative ways to play rather than a challenging gameplay.

This game can be emotional, funny, mysterious and epic. The whole game can be completed in a single sitting, yes it's short. But that doesn't make the game any less impressive. The story itself revolves around 2 brothers and the way they've implemented the controller to interact with them is simply brilliant. Hence it's highly recommended to be played with a controller over a keyboard. The game has a deep message behind it, about life, morality and overcoming struggles. And the music, I fell in love with it instantly as soon as I heard it. It's absolutely perfect. It knows when it needs to be serious, epic and just downright silly. The art style the devs went for is great as well. Some scenes are completely breathtaking, combined with the beautiful music scores.

Not a lot of games could pull off what this game manages to do. Needless to say, this game has become one of my favourite games of all time.

When it comes to cons, I don't really have any with this game other than a couple of bug encounters that didn't really pull me out of the game.

After playing this game for a few hours i can tell:
  • Short story game with a simple graphic
  • Nice Puzzle solving game
  • This game taught me how wonderful if we work together
  • And this game will hurt your finger if you use keyboard (better use controller)

the gameplay is preety unique, you must control two characters simultaneously to solve the puzzle. sometimes I'm confused "I must control which one first?". Try this game and you won't regret it, but if you hate puzzle don't buy this game.

Overall Ratings: 9/10

If you ask why 9/10? that because this game is hurt my finger and I take 1 score to heal my hand lol

Atmospheric and emotional adventure game with plenty of miniture puzzles, gripping storytelling and beautiful surroundings.
The simplicity of the controls bundled with the complexity of controlling two characters at once is highly entertaining. Your brain will likely mess up on a million occasions and that is part of the fun. A controller is required to play.
The artistic graphics and scenes give this game warm feeling and will most likely will make you smile or maybe even your jaw drop at times. Rewarding gameplay. Big thumbs up!

It was surprisingly pleasant to play this game. After watching the trailers and screenshots, I thought this was a game I would not enjoy or find interesting at all. It was by pure chance that I found myself playing this title but I am glad I did.
The game is not hard, the gameplay is simple and that gives you the opportunity to focus on the story, the unique levels and the beautiful scenery, which is by far one of the game's strongest points.

“Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons” is an atmospheric adventure indie game done perfectly. The story is rich and includes a few puzzles too. The main idea of the story shortly - two boys who have already struggled with the loss of their mother, and are now faced with the reality of a sick and dying father, must save him by retrieving "The Water of Life". And so their journey begins.

The story is excellent, it immerses you into the world immediately. I've experienced a lot of different emotions - happiness, fear, wanderlust, compassion and grief. The game successfully tells a consistent, intelligible, fulfilling and mature story without the characters saying single word which you could understand because if I'm not mistaken it's in Finnish (which confused me at the beginning, to be honest), but it entirely relies on pure interactive game-play. That genuinely leaves a deep emotional impression on the player.

The world is elaborate, charming and spirited, and despite its story being only ~4 hours long, it takes you through a lot of various environments, every chapter feels fresh, captivating and interesting. There also can be found some mini side-quests that reward you with achievements and extra contents. It would be a sin if I don't mention the brilliance of the soundtracks - truly atmospheric and moving.

You control two individual characters at the same time (the brothers) to solve interesting, varied puzzles in order to progress through the level. Even if it's told that the game is supposed to be single-player, I think that it can be an amazing local co-op too. Playing by myself was unique expierience I have never had before because simultaneously controlling two characters can be quite challenging sometimes. There's a notice that game requires a controller to play - I played with keyboard (wasd, space bar, ctrl and arrows) and I hadn't any problems with that.

“Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons” is truly fascinating game. It had captured my heart. This is one journey you will never forget.
To be honest, the ending has broken my heart. But it was worth it and I'll definetly play this game again.

"One must be strong where the other is weak, brave where the other is fearful, they must be... Brothers."

This game is more about the story than any other thing. Graphics, music, story are beautifull very explicit and made my son cry.

If you search for some diffucult platerformer, this is not for you. The game itself is not really difficult, puzzles goes from easy to medium at most and you can really take your time to do them. And it's a good thing because you control the big bro' with the left side of your controller and lil' one with the right side, witch seems quite odd at the beginning. You can get used to it but not really confortable with it and need to really think sometimes what hand you need to move. Controls are probably the most difficult thing in the game, but this game is not really about difficulty and really about the story and their journey together.

I would recommend this game to anyone who like to take their time to discover a beautiful journey.

Starbreeze Studios aren’t well known for their emotional depth. Responsible for the excellent Riddick games (Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena), the first Darkness (which administered a gut-punch to our soppy bits with Jenny’s death) and the misfiring Syndicate reboot, the Swedish developers have an inconsistent record with both quality and quantity – which puts them in a perfect position to do what many studios can’t: take risks.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is one such risk. A fairytale adventure set in a whimsical land that seems to be assembled from various bits and pieces of Scandinavian folklore, Brothers tells the tale of the titular siblings as they embark on a journey to save their sick father’s life. The target of their quest is the sap of an enormous, enchanted tree located halfway across the world, which they must find and bring back.

Along the way they encounter trolls, both friendly and otherwise, a land of warring giants, a menagerie’s worth of weird creatures and a strange young girl who they rescue from an apparent sacrifice. At the heart of the story, and the gameplay, is their relationship. The boys are tied together not only by the bonds of blood and brotherhood, but also by a mutual desire to save their father no matter how far they have to go or what dangers they have to face.

It’s an element that pervades every facet of the game. The brothers are inseparable, and only through teamwork and trust are they able to overcome the challenges of the world. You control both siblings with one pad: the left stick and trigger control Big Brother, and the right control Little Brother. It sounds simple but is surprisingly disorienting. We’re so used to spinning the camera with the right stick and cycling between multiple characters that controlling both brothers with only four buttons requires some retraining of our automatic responses, but the pay-off is great. Puzzles that require the siblings to work in unison are straightforward, but others, where each brother is required to complete a separate task, can throw you, and several times I found myself working Big Brother like a Trojan while Little Brother stood picking his nose.

Most of the puzzles are very simple, and in fact the game itself is remarkably easy from start to finish. Of a four-hour runtime, the first two are spent travelling and taking in the scenery, and it’s a fair way in before you’re presented with any real peril and even then, it’s easily overcome. Aside a very creepy moment towards the end, Brothers is quite twee about its dangers. Deaths are never shown, for example, despite the fact that some of Limbo’s shock appeal would have translated well.

As you take the boys on their adventure you’ll reunite a Troll husband and wife, navigate the walls of a colossal fortress, fend off wolves, traverse a blood-drenched battleground covered with fallen giants and flee from an invisible ogre. Moments of true tension are exacerbated by the often clumsy controls but lessened by the lack of brutality, leading to an experience that rarely thrills but is always interesting.

The world itself is beautiful, and Little Brother’s ability to see wonder in everything lends it a magical, magisterial gravitas. Benches are dotted around at specific vantage points, and perching on them offers a view of the land. The sense of scale at these times is magnificent, and the backdrops – particularly towards the end – are occasionally breathtaking. Sprinting along a cliff-side as the Aurora Borealis dances in the sky, or watching a pod of alien, tentacled killer whales leap and dive through the cobalt blue waters of a frozen river are two stand-out moments, but Brothers offers many.

The short lifespan is tempered by an ever-changing gameworld. Yes, Brothers is over quickly, but you’ll see so much in that short time that when it’s over you’ll want to go straight back through it in case you missed anything. Stealing a hang-glider and running it off a cliff, or tethering a rope between themselves so they can swing each other around a sky-scraping castle are moments that highlight not only the Brothers’ sense of mutual trust but also their individual bravery.

Little Brother’s phobia of water means Big Brother must carry him across deep rivers, while the older sibling’s penchant for following his impulsive heart leads to trouble more than once. Considering the game contains not a single word of dialogue – spoken or written – it’s incredibly affecting and very easy to follow. Everyone communicates in a kind of broken, hurried Simlish that sounds vaguely European but will require some imagination and attention to understand.

The aesthetics are solid and evocative of the Fable series, using muted pastel colours to give the world a fantastical, dream-like quality, whether you’re looking at an abandoned, snow-shrouded village, a midnight forest or a giant’s bedroom. As I said, Brothers packs a hell of a lot of spectacle into just four or five hours.

VERDICT: From a hopeful beginning to a heart-wrenching conclusion, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is an endearing and emotional adventure that will resonate strongly with anyone who has a younger or older sibling. It may not be the most exciting or challenging game, and it is certainly over too quickly, but it’s also a refreshing, beautifully-realised attempt to do something new.

Absolutely beautiful game, the landscapes are breathtaking, the sky, the water, the snow, the sunlight, a visual delight... The music is so perfectly matched to the setting you're in... The puzzles are relatively easy for the most part, they certainly aren't overwhelmingly challenging... A short game, about 3-4 hours, perhaps even less, but I love to explore and take it all in... 12 easy to obtain achievements as well, easy for those who want 100%

What a ride.

I normally do not write reviews unless the game needs to be avoided or bought immediately. In this case, it's the latter and you should buy it right now.

Pros
+Art, I liked it
+Controls, easy to learn, hard to master
+Story, easy to follow and smooth too
+Innovative, they twisted the controls to make many interesting puzzles that were awesome (Rope was my favorite)
+Emotional, it drew me in and I was not ready

Cons
-Transitions, some of the transitions between puzzles felt repetitive, but this is not a huge game-breaking con. More like a tiny break. On the pro-con scale it's pretty close to neutral.

Conclusion
Should you buy this game? If you like well made simple puzzles that make you think a little, lovable characters, and a wonderous adventure through a world of majesty, then I would say you should.
9/10 if not 10/10
