Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is an amazing game. You feel like your part of the adventure, not just controlling it. Everything is beautiful. The story, the characters, the setting, the soundtrack... It's just beautiful. I'm probably going to get hate, but I stand by this - it's so much better than games like GTA. This leaves an impact on you. It changes you, it leaves something in your heart. It is something words can't describe. That's the pure magic of gaming.

About

A great story with cheerful and melancholy moments wrapped in an adventure game. The game has very simple design and gameplay mechanics thus its puzzles never take too long to figure out. The natural environments are gorgeous—they are diverse and beautifully executed. This game, similarly to Gone Home, is almost entirely about its story—this means you can basically wander around and interact with things (and your brother) occasionally. Don't expect hard platforming sessions and puzzles that take half an hour to solve. It's not for everyone, but if you are someone who enjoy playing games only for their stories, then Brothers is for you.

Pros
  • Spectecular environments
  • Emotionally diverse gameplay
  • Great story that unfolds as you progress
  • A really fitting score
  • Easy controls
Cons
  • Sometimes the sticks can be confusing
  • Way too short
Rating

8/10 — Very Good

The game have a sad, but beautiful story, touching, full of meaning. The graphics are awsome, made me feel like I was starring an animation movie. And we can see how careful the developers were to make you feel, almost like live the landscapes and the adventure.
In the beggining, it was a little difficult to coordinate the two characters at the the same time, but it's a great excercise, and over time you get used to it. That's not a bad thing, because you can attach better to the history than if you were just trying to do something, and even so, there are some challenges.
It is a short game , but the experience is valid. I finished the game nearly 4 hours, than played again some chapters for the achievements LOL. I recommend this game with all my heart <3<3<3

First of all, the game doesn't require a controller to play it. It will still run without a controller, and you can control both characters using only one keyboard. WASD with Space Bar to control big brother, and arrow keys with right CTRL to control the young brother, so both hands can rest comfortably on the keyboard.

Controlling 2 characters at the same time might be tricky in some situations, requiring some skill of coordinating both hands. Or you can have someone else play it with you, like how I played it with my nephew and we sure had lots of fun together!

The game is a light and cheerful adventure. Puzzles/obstacles are easy and they are not meant to be more than that. Younger players will love the game, but adults will find something interesting in it as well.

Very recommended!

Okay, I believe I owe the game of giving it a proper recommendation instead of just writing "BUY. THIS." Even if it demands sacrileges, like telling you to forget everything you know about it – noramlly one would urge a responsible customer to factor in every information one has got about the product from reliable sources –, or drop all of your expectations – one should have at least some, reasonable expectations towards a product.

So here I am, telling you to do exactly that: forget everything you know about Brothers and drop all expectations. Instead, do yourself a favour , buy this game, free 3-4 hours for yourself on a weekend evening and play it whole with short brakes, with facebook closed and steam in offline mode. No, seriously, the length of this game is intenional and chosen with great care, specifically so that one could complete the game, from start to finish in one sitting. Why, you ask?

Because this game is... a magic trick.

Hence another heretical thought I must emphasize: you can only appreciate this game if you played it (PLAYED, not watched someone else to play it) from beginning to end. And no, NOOO, HEY! NNNNO! Don't go ahead now and play this game thinking 'oh, so the ending is what matters! Better rush ahead to find out about that epic closing of a game!' NNNNO. BAD PLAYER! BAD! I said, the WHOLE game is, what matters and its so hard to explain why, without ruining the game for you. But here's my final advice: after you finished the game, stand up from your computer and just... go, be somewhere else where you can have a few minutes of undisturbed thinking, and then think about what the game did to you and how it achieved that.

Your mind will be blown.

This game took me completely by surprise.

Which is really surprising because, after the first few minutes, it was nearly a disappointment: graphics fine but not sophisticated, a touching story which did not seem very promising and characters too simple. And then I let it drop in a corner of my library and forgot about it until I decided to get back on it more than a year afterwards, mainly because the achievements were easy to get.
And finally, this game astonished me and was clearly much better than I expected it to be.

I was totally absorbed by the unique atmosphere that characterizes it. I’m not surprised it has the tag "Atmospheric". With the atmosphere somewhat childish of the beginning, I was not expecting to discover a universe both gloomy, melancholic and yet very colorful afterwards. This conjunction of the theme of death on a bright picture painted with softened features worthy of a children's story is quite striking and almost unsettling. And let’s not forget about the history of these very young characters which ends up tearing your guts out.

The harmony that unites the two brothers is at the heart of this adventure which has a rather special gameplay where the two characters must be controlled at the same time to progress. I play with the keyboard and it took me some time to get used to it especially as one of the two protagonists requires a qwerty keyboard but I just had to manually switch it to azerty with Shift + Alt, and you get the hang of it really easily.

Clearly, I was blown away and I highly recommend this little gem.

One of the most touching games out there.

One of the most beautiful,touching and relaxing video games out there.Brothers-A Tale of Two Sons is a co-op adventure game wich is played by a single person,simultaneously controlling the two characters.The game itself is not very long,but it's totally worth it.

Here are the things I liked the most about the game.

  • The visual style is very appealing and colourful.

  • Great soundtrack and little bit of humor.

  • A story that is not complicated at all,but will leave you sad for eternity. :D

  • The two characters have different skills wich you often have to combine to traverse trough the level.

  • Puzzles wich are hardly challengeing,but fun to solve

  • Five or six environments through wich you travel,all very different than the previous one.

  • Although the controls are not very bad on keyboard I strongly recommend playing with a controller,your expirience will be much better.

    These are the things I liked the most.The game is fantastic and although small,I'll always remember it as one of the best games I've played.

Though there is no clear language spoken in this game, its pretty much understood that two brothers are set out on a journey to find some miracle cure for their father. What makes this game unique is you must control both brothers at the same time, which with the keyboard is especially challenging. Beautiful scenery and a simplified story line make this game worthy.

Aside from the challenging game play with the keyboard, which I'm told having a controller is much easier, the gameplay is interesting and amazing. There's not any real fighting per se, but some simple puzzles you must solve to continue on. Took me about 3 hours to complete it but still well worth the money.

stupid ninja onions made my face wet near the end.

This is a really short and sad game, with a good story, different gameplay (you control two characters, the brothers, at the same time, yes SAME time), beautiful visuals, etc.
Maybe it's a little too expensive for such a short game, but if you buy it in a sale, it's worth it. At the beginning it's a little hard to control two characters at the same time, but you'll learn that fast, I promise. Emotional people, maybe you can save your tears to the end...

An absolute masterpiece that, in the beginning, can be questionably dull- Awkward mechanics can drive some away, but put a little time into it and the result is an emotional piece of art. 10/10, Everybody should play this.

To be honest I underestimated this game. I thought that it would turn out to be overrated.
This is a truly beautiful game. This game made me feel genuine happiness, sadness, horror, and awe. This game gave me goosebumps, many, many, many cold chills, and even a few tears.
And it did all of this in a few hours. And without a word of English.

"Brothers - A Tales of Two Sons" is a very enjoyable game and it's not like the other.

Each chapter takes us into diverse, enchanting and different worlds. These worlds contribute to give a traditionnal tales aspect to the story. Not a Disney tale... It's more a Grimm tale. For example the death is present, explicit and not hidden.
The visual identity is very pleasant and reinforce the immersion in the story.

The gameplay is a little special but easy to pick up. We control the two characters in same time. We have the impression to be the invisble hand of the character's destiny during their epic and dark quest.

I advise to play with a controller. Each stick controls one character's movement and the trigger controls their actions.

It's possible to play with keyboard, yet harder. That adds the possibility to play with another gamer.
WASP + Space for the older brother.
Arrow keys + Right CTRL for the younger brother.
Play two gives a pleasant side to somes puzzles reflexes where you need a good coordination.

In general, this game is easy and very pleasant. The specific actions to each brother go together and are a part of the coherence of the story.
This game is short. 3 or 4 hours. Achievements are easy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Brothers - A Tales of Two Sons" est un jeu fort sympathique qui sort du cadre des jeux habituels.
Chaque chapitre nous plonge dans des univers différents, variés et enchanteurs qui s'articulent autour d'une histoire reprenant les codes du conte traditionnel. Cependant, pas de mièvrerie ici, on se rapproche plus des contes de Grimm, où les thématiques telles que la mort nous sont lancées au visage.
L'identité visuelle du jeu est très appréciable et permet de manière assez efficace l'immersion dans ce conte.
Le gameplay bien qu'un peu particulier à prendre en main est assez simple. Nous contrôlons les deux protagonistes en même temps. Cela donne l'impression d'être la main invisible du destin qui dirige les pas des deux frères à travers leur périple à la fois épique mais également très sombre.
Je conseille fortement une manette pour jouer. Chaque stick permet de diriger un des deux frères. Chaque gâchette permet de leur faire réaliser les actions.
Il est possible, bien que plus complexe au niveau de la prise en main, de jouer au clavier. Cela apporte surtout la possibilité de jouer à deux. Chaque joueur pouvant alors d'une main contrôler un personnage.
Touches WASP + Espace pour le grand frère. (Implique de passer le clavier en Anglais. Pas de possibilité de changer les touches).
Touches fléchées + CTRL droit pour le petit frère.
Jouer à deux apporte un petit coté sympathique dans certains Puzzles qui demandent quelques réflexes et où il faut réussir à se coordonner.
De manière générale le jeu est simple et très agréables, les actions spécifiques à l'un ou l'autre des personnages se complètent bien et servent l'histoire et les liens entre les personnages.
Le jeu est assez court. Environ 3 ou 4 heures. Les succès ne sont pas difficiles à obtenir pour ceux qui les chassent.
