A very beautiful game which has a lovely emotional story and all controlled in a very unique way that tests how ambidextrous you are. A must buy.

Brothers is a fantastic visual experience and tells a simple but touching story in about 3 or so hours. It's got a fantastictly designed and living world that makes for wonderful exploration.

However, the gameplay isn't nearly as good... The "single player co-op" is certainly an innovative design choice, but as it turns out it's a nightmare from controlls perspective. It's confusing and bothersome to controll both characters at the same time... I guess they made the puzzles super easy to make up for that, but really, I think a challenge would have been welcome now and again at least.

And for such a linear experience, there's quite a few bugs all arround. Nothing game breaking, but stuff that might force you to restart the chapter...

So bottom line, as a visual and narrative experience, Brothers is FANTASTIC! But as a puzzle/adventure game... There are many, many other games that do that better and will last you longer than 3 hours.

The only word to describe this game is: beautiful. The art direction, soundtrack, color patterns, interaction with the world, controls... everything is beautiful. Especially interactions and the responses of the items or people (wouldn't like to call them NPC's in such a game) depending on the brother you're interacting at that time makes this game astonishingly brilliant. Being directly involved in some major happenings (like at the giant tree, near the end of the game) makes it more than a simple platformer and enhances the game's influence on your emotions as you are doing those specific actions. Preference of using the player's involvement rather than showing those kinds of events as cutscenes turns this simple story to a bond between the game and the gamer.

Only negative points are:
Mostly holding LT and RT buttons might become tiring for fingers after a while.
Controller direction settings are set for XBOX gamepads, which are different than most of the gamepads on the market in terms of locations of digital and analog movement buttons, therefore while you're controlling a brother with analog, you'll control the other with digital and this kinda diminishes the revolutionary control system.
Game is too short and would love to play more of this.
Puzzles could have been harder (?).

At the end, it is a great experience to participate in the tale of two brothers.

Rating: 10/10 must buy - worth full price and then some ( WORK OF ART status)

Summary: Emotionally charged and beautifully designed adventure puzzle game. Can be played without controller but dont do it, use a 2 stick controller. Hits right in the feelings in the best possible way. No one will be left unmoved by the game.

Long review (SPOILER FREE):
Game is set in a fantasy world in which you play as two brothers on a epic quest to acquire a certain item. It is a very mature tale about growing up, brotherly bonds, effects of trauma on a young person, overcoming those traumas and acceptance of death as part of life.

Art direction is really good and make the world seem very alive which in turn makes you get really immersed in the game. Game is not long around 2,5h (4h if you stop to take in scenery) but in that short time it will take you on a emotional roller coaster ranging from heartwarming to heartbreaking. You will not feel like you were cheated by how short it is in the end, it will feel perfectly timed.

I can honestly say this is one of the few games that ever induced such deep emotions and cathartic feeling at the end. I am talking about The Walking Dead Clementine affection or MGS Sniper Wolf death scene level of emotions. This game will stick with me for the rest of my life. Please play this game in ONE sitting.

Characters in this game speak in a made up language and there are no subtitles yet design is so masterful you will never not understand what is happening or get lost or not understand a puzzle. In fact i was impressed that i developed such strong feelings for the brothers despite it. Puzzles range from easy to medium. Sometimes they are a bit "hard" just because you are most likely not used to controlling 2 characters at once using both analog sticks and R2 L2 triggers. Personally i did not find them clunky it worked really well for such a design.

Most impressive thing that really hit me in the feels was how the game managed to incorporate emotions into actuall controls. That blew my mind and if you play until the end you will know what i mean by that.

Only criticism i can possibly give would be that you should have a controller. Everything else is perfect at least for me. I will follow future similar releases from this studio. This game is a work of interactive art that can not be done in any other medium except video gaming.

GO BUY IT !!!

"Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons" is a beautiful gem of a game. You're controlling their adventure through tension, joy, shock, friendship, sadness, fear and wonder in an exciting little tale which circles around a matter of life and death.

I want to especially highlight the following aspects:
  • touching and immersive story with a powerful message as the core of the game
  • gorgeous designed characters
  • fantastic, detailed environment carries you into this Scandinavian fairytale
  • original controls and clever mechanics with full gamepad support
  • soundtrack and atmosphere perfectly match the different emotional situations
  • just the right level of difficulty for a challenging but never frustrating gaming experience
If you haven't played "Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons" yet, you definitly should do so!

This game put me off in the beginning with the weird, nonsensical voice acting, but I'm really glad that I stuck with it. In fact, I think this game would actually have suffered with understandable voice acting. The puzzles weren't incredibly challenging, but they were fun, and I felt good after I completed them. There were some weird moments here and there where the puzzles only seemed to come from poor design choices on the part of the game's inhabitants, but they were outweighed by the rest of the game in a big way.

The only real con is that the game is pretty short. It is one of my more expensive games in terms of dollars per hour, but picking it up during a sale really helped to ease that pain.

I really enjoyed the world depicted in this game. It looks like a fairy tale and is wonderfuly brought to life with an amazing soundtrack.
The singleplayer cooperation mechanic is really awesome, and it makes the ending that much powerful.
Few games have been able to sucessfully marry gameplay and narrative, and that is a feat I feel is done right here.

It's a short but superb and emotional adventure.

Get it for the story; play it for the puzzles. Get stuck, find the soultion, laugh, try not to cry, fall to the floor, cry your eyes out.

This game is an amazing work of art. It's a fantasy adventure // puzzle game, where you play as 2 brothers on a quest...without giving spoilers. This is a must have.

Beautiful storyline, art and sountrack. The controls are easy and the camera offers no problems. A brillant result when art and gaming embrace.

It's poetric, deep, cute and innocent, yet plain scary and creepy at times. You smile and cry with the main characters feeling their emotions from the beginning to the end.

One of the best games I have ever played...and it goes amazing with a cup of hot chocolate.

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons has a personality of its own. Unique and fantastic game.

Stunning game, I don't usually like puzzle games, but this one is different. It's not too difficult and the focus is on the story line; not the puzzles.

While not as impactful as the game's hype would lead you to believe, Brothers is worth playing for its world, its mind bending controls, and a clever resolution.
