Short version: very bad sliding controls, you slide all over when you land and take constant environmental dmg, lousy boss fights that are pure trial and error memorization, and very short (beat it in 2 hours) so $7 is overpriced by about four dollars. Also, Adult Swim games and shows try way, way too hard to be amusing and they are just not funny at all most of the time. AS shows and games are just the dreams of drug-happy hippie barista new age pretentious hipster dudes. "Like, one day my dreams will become a reality on TV, man! That'll be $17.50 for that large latte, dude!" I should clone myself and make my clone do five trillion jumping jacks while watching videos of sleeping vegetables. What I just said makes much more sense than any show or game Adult Swim has ever made. I have no doubt that if they read it they will take it and turn it into a show.
Super House of Ice Skating is what this should be called since you slide all over badly. It is extremely hard but for all the wrong reasons. My guy moves way too fast and slides all over the place which makes me constantly careen into things and get hit. But how the ♥♥♥♥ can I NOT do that when I'm in a ♥♥♥♥ing hurry because the whole game is on a timer? God I hate twitch-play nervous-play timer games. Because of the sliding and other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you take unavoidable dmg from bosses until you get it by trial and error after a bunch of tries, and constantly by normal enemies and environment hazards. Some skill can be put to use if you have such, but in reality no true gaming skill is involved in this game. It is just purely trial and error memorization.
The biggest problem I had with the game and is what killed any fun that was left is, like I said, the horrible control. I'm using a wired 360 pad, as keyboard controls are out of the question for this game. The entire game feels like you are jumping and sliding around on ice. After you land from a jump, when you stop running, precision jumping, all have to be done with the sliding effect taken into account, and it makes the game simply a hundred times harder than it should actually be. Even standing on a ledge and barely tapping the dpad to face another direction has a significant risk of sliding off. One specific issue I can remember is during the last boss fight you have to stand on these purple things that get slammed down (most of the time giving you a unavoidable hit) and you can easily slide off them into the acid and take major dmg.
When you play you are on a timer which of course sucks being rushed. It isn't too terrible because you can pick up timer reset items and meet a ghost who resets the timer, but for me personally that kills a lot of the fun, as I despise nervous twitch-play timer games. To be fair, if the timer runs out you lose only one life drop, but you need all the life you can get for the sucky trial-and-error memorization boss fights.
The enemies and environments are just pure frustration at its worst. Every enemy and every environmental hazard has a extremely high possibility of dealing an unavoidable hit to you because of the sliding effect of movement. With practice they could become unavoidable, but with the combination of having to rush because of the timer and the awful sliding feel of the movement, they will stay nearly unavoidable and this game will stay a piece of crap.
With practice I beat it, but did not have very much fun doing so. It's far from being a great indie game, or really even a good game generally speaking. Even if it was good, it is very short. I have 3.6hrs in it, taking away the time I was alt+tabbed out waiting for the rest of the card drops from it, I beat all of it in about two hours or less. Look elsewhere for your next great indie game and stay far the ♥♥♥♥ away from any adult swim games because they are all just weird drug-induced nonsense like their nonsensical shows. It might be somewhat funny if the games were good but no adult swim games are. All adult swim games and shows are just not funny unless you are either 12 years old or on drugs.
