Introducing the Hurt + Heal DLC Pack

It's time to upgrade your options with this Hurt + Heal DLC pack for Ace of Spades: Battle Builder. Adding 2 brand new classes of hero, as well as new weapon load-out options for all other classes, you can really add some punch to your creative shooting.

TWO NEW CHARACTER CLASSES
  • The Specialist: A run-and-gun mercenary with a shady past, this contract killer is not to be messed with. Get in quick, eliminate the enemy then get out even quicker. The Specialist's Fully Automatic Shotgun is the opposite of stealthy, and his Grenade Launcher really brings the thunder. Sticky Grenades and Chemical Bombs complete this highly toxic weapons arsenal.

  • The Medic: Heal up yourself and your team with a powerful Med Pack. Don't make the mistake of thinking the Medic is an unarmed nurse though - this battlefield doctor knows how to soldier their way out of trouble with a high-fire-rate LMG and tough Riot Shield to absorb damage.

NEW WEAPONS FOR EXISTING CLASSES
  • Commando: NEW Assault Rifle
  • Marksman: NEW Automatic Pistol
  • Engineer: NEW Mine Launcher
  • Miner: NEW Blocksucker

Get the pack and get in game to Hurt & Heal!

This game is a laggy piece of trash. It wasn't always this way. THE PURCHASABLE DLC SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN UPDATE. Conclusion; game developers really don't care what crap they serve to their players as long as they get paid.

I'll fix that.

The original free version build and shoot or openspades are both much better. I played a few hours thinking I might have fun, but no, a few hackers and this being completely different than the original makes it real not worth your money.

At best, 3/10.

This game is but a shell of the original free-to-play Ace of Spades. This game was bought out by Jagex and ruined, similar to their other title Runescape. I regret my purchase of this game considering servers are dead, but when servers were active enough to find a game it was interesting playing this coming from the old version. Some of the new additions when this came out were fun but with the recent updates the game has turned to unplayable trash. The new class system Jagex implemented is awful with unbalanced weapons and poor character design. If you'd like to play the game how it used to be, search Google for OpenSpades, a well refined version of the classic that is being kept alive by fans and still has tons of active players and servers as well as graphical improvements over the Steam version.

How do you take an already brilliant, unique and popular voxel-based game that is FREE and mess it up so badly? Ace of Spades was originally an exciting, balanced and fun experience, with many of the maps and gamemodes being user-created.

Then this entire remake killed it for... oh... I don't know... everyone who has ever played the original? Why not just make it like Team Fortress 2, and only have optional cosmetics and skins to purchase. Even now this still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Jagex.
You messed up.

I was a kid when I played the first person.
Than the full game came out.
One year Later.
I got the game.
And I was greeted by Jagex.
They said: "Welcome to COD 9 year-old ripoff".
I quit

6 months later: I got the DLC.
It sucked dingus

2 years later (close enough).
They made the first DLC free, and refunded no-one.
The new update of hurt and heal had 2 new classes.
And I found out it was DLC.
Jagex, go ♥♥♥♥ yourself.
You're bad you nong heads.

Most servers are always empty and the few people that do play are not the community type and tend to just be there to grief or hack. It's not a fun experience in my opinion.

Do not waste your money. Sometime ago, a game was created by Ben Aksoy (the original creator) based off of World War I that slowly evolved into what is now the old Ace of Spades. The game at the time was free to play, and although it had its quirks -- built on the voxel engine, occassional hackers, and so on -- it was routinely updated, simplistic, and took the FPS genre on a new, exciting, and unexplored path.

For a game of its stature at the time, it was quite entertaining and many of these quirks could be forgiven. Players were able to build structures, destroy structures, and the game struck a unique balance that was perfectly calibrated between the two. Fortifications, trenches, castles and towers -- the original Ace of Spades had it all, and beautifully made landscapes slowly turned into grotesque warzones of battered walls, crumbling buildings, gunfire, and holes from grenades.

Vast networks of tunnels made sure you were always on edge; never sure where the enemy would come up, yet constantly haunted by the sound of their digging beneath your feet. War in the old Ace of Spades was raged across towers and peaks, on the ground in trenches and fortifications, and the crowded blown-out tunnels that fed one's claustrophobia.

There was much work to be done about this game, graphically it was very basic. Gameplay, it was painlessly simple, and it had a direction that it was going, but it didn't lie to you about what kind of game it was. Then Jagex, the makers of Rune Scape, had bought the game from Aksoy. At first, many people within the community watched to see if Jagex would take the game and continue developing it further, exploring this unique and unwandered path of the genre. Up until this point, Aksoy had worked on the game alone; the possibilities of what a team of developers could do with such a game had many excited, and some nervous.

The result of what you have here, is the biggest joke a gaming company has ever committed alongside the likes of the E.T. fiasco that has long faded from memory. Rumours surfaced that Jagex had constricted Aksoy to NDAs, especially after he tried to get the game back. (Pay in mind, unconfirmed rumours) The company then went back on promises it made to the Ace of Spades community, migrated it to a new engine, and took the game away from its potential. They built it around classes, changed things, and made it feel more familiar (though they couldn't even do this right) to the arcade FPS genre styles we've seen in places like Team Fortress. The game quickly became sniper-haven, and the community who had enjoyed the old Aos was outraged.

Jagex's Ace of Spades died out within a year, with the servers becoming vacant and the game no longer interesting. It became nothing more than a rotting, putrified carcass horribly butchered by Jagex's developers; and then left out in the open without so much as a courtesy to bury the poor thing. Ace of Spades died with Jagex, and what was an amazing potential for a game to explore was cut short by a parasitic company. Aksoy has subsequently disappeared, his social media accounts, website -- all of it has been taken down.

I played the original Ace of Spades not long after it was first created. And I was one of the hopefuls that were excited when Jagex purchased the game, and I had to fight for a refund from Steam in a process that took about a month thereafter. Many did the same, and Jagex received tons of refunds. The game turned into such a cookie-cutter disappointment, that I've now eternally labelled Jagex as nothing more than a failed, parasitic company with no ounce of creativity. I've resigned myself to never purchasing a Jagex game in the future, and as we've seen with Rune Scape, and now the recent rumours of them being bought out, they're nothing more than a failed company.

What Jagex has brought to light, however, is a growing problem among the gaming market over overbearing companies -- such as Jagex -- that have eyed indie-games like parasites. Companies that see these indev games as being quick money makers; who prey on these starting out or independent developers to fix their financial, marketing, or creative woes because of their poor management and inability to run a gaming company effectively. Jagex has gone down the road of other publishers such as Electronic Arts and Ubisoft, that have become nothing more than jokes to be laughed at, and companies to be gazed at with suspicion for their tendency to screw over the markets.

And this isn't the only problem the gaming market is facing by these companies. People look at Early Access sales with more apprehension, because of developers that have been successful at wooing the community, raking in cash, and then abandoning the projects (Star Citizen has been pulling people's legs for years now). We've seen companies release games that are nothing more than hollow husks, and all of the actual content is in DLCs priced almost as much as the original game. (Elite Dangerous, Civilisation, Age of Mythology)

We've seen parasitic companies, who have no other intention but to bleed consumers dry and destroy a game as much as possible. (Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Microsoft, and Jagex) This has, unfortunately, made people more hesitant towards those developers that are actually trying to produce not only quality but original content, and are just trying to break into the market without having to worry about the market titans breathing down their neck. We've seen this now with both Electronic Arts and Ubisoft attempting to drag people away from Steam's platform with Uplay and Origin, because they want to monopolise on the market. So, if you want to ask what is killing the gaming market, and what murdered Ace of Spades -- you may settle your eyes on the grotesque vultures such as Jagex.

What is left of the old Ace of Spades community has recreated the original game. You can play the original voxel-based version now called Build and Shoot, or you can search for the graphically upgraded version called OpenSpades. Both are free and access the same servers. It's unfortunate that what Ace of Spades was meant to be will never come to fruition, and these two community based versions will never be further developed, but they are still very fun to play and still have populated servers.

I understand this review has come out more as a rant, especially against these companies, but it is especially frustrating to see this happen. The best thing that could ever happen to the gaming market is if some of these cancerous companies went bankrupt, that's about all they're worth. However, such a possibility doesn't seem likely, and instead we'll be forever graced by their disappointments.

Old Ace of Spades was better before Jagex took this over.

Multiplayer is dead.
Only semi-fun gamemode is VIP.
Blocks attract children - Most of this is filled with 6 year old children, if not somewhat older. (I don't have anything against age.)

Just, just don't get it. No one plays it anymore, it's a waste of money. Get Build n Shoot instead since it's the old Ace of Spades and people play that. Oh and it's free.
