About This Game

Say hello to the creative shooter. Ace of Spades: Battle Builder is the first-person shooter that lets you create your battleground, destroy it, then create it again. Up to 32 players choose from seven unique classes and jump into team-based, multiplayer mayhem across an endlessly evolving battlefield, to construct, destruct and take out the opposition.

Key Features

  • CONSTRUCTION, COMBAT AND CREATIVITY - Complete strategic and creative freedom is at your disposal to annihilate the enemy however you like.
  • MULTIPLAYER MAP CREATION - Ace of Spades: Battle Builder includes a map creator mode, which allows you to collaborate with up to 23 friends and make your very own Ace of Spades battleground! Custom tools and over 400 prefabricated structures will help you build the ultimate multiplayer maps, which you can upload and share via Steam Workshop.
  • CUSTOM GAME MODES - Play the way YOU want to play! Host your own match or create your own mode using the wide selection of settings available to you. From fine tuning your favourite mode & classes, to turning TDM into a Spade-only grudge match with predefined teams, as a lobby host you can:

  • Sort players into specific teams – great for clan matches, or for playing on the same team as your friends
  • Choose the map you want to play, official or player made
  • Set the size of the match, and it’s duration
  • Set up vanilla game modes or tweak them to suit by using an extensive set of customisable game rules

    Tons Of Insane Game Modes

    • Capture the Flag – No FPS is complete without CTF. Protect your flag, take the enemies’.
    • Demolition - Demolish the enemy’s base before your own is decimated.
    • Diamond Mine - Dig up precious diamonds & defend the diamond carrier as they attempt to cash in their discovery at your team’s base for points.
    • Occupation - A game mode that pits offence against defence. The defensive team must protect their teams based in the green occupied area of the map while the attacking Blue team try to destroy the enemy position by successfully detonating bombs.
    • VIP – Play in 1930’s era Chicago or LA’s Alcatraz and protect your mob boss from the opposing Mafioso.

Just The Basics:
(POV below)

Title: Ace of Spades
Release Date: December 12th
Availability of DLC? Yes, but may not be everyone's cup of tea.
Recommendation: Wait for a sale.
Multiplayer? Yes!
Genre: Multiplayer shooter, character based shooter, builder/fighter hybrid with Minecraft esque graphics.
General Match Length: A couple minutes/varies depending on host choice.

My Point Of View (Pro's And Con's):
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
+Sandbox construction elements, can be used to create beautiful structures if patience is a virtue.
+Multiple gamemodes including: Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Base Infiltration, and Zombie Defense.
+Multiple character-based classes including a Commmando, Marksman, Engineer, and Miner.
+Graphics are Minecraft-esque, Sound quality is good with Weapons having various sounds and quips from characters.
+Variety of maps and inclusion of workshop content -------> Replayablity *Check* (Even better with DLC)
+You can build your own maps!

-Campers, often.
-DLC is only compatible with Windows, leaving players on Mac, for example, unable to play the DLC even with the game playable on Mac.
-Some characters may seem more overpowered than others.
-The server system ranges from usuable to terrible; player ping can shoot through the roof.
-Few Players now-a-days.
-Servers may not be available in other countries.
-Price for content can be debatable at times.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personal Experience?
- Here's the setup... playing the Zombie gamemode on Big Ben inspired map. Im climbing as a Marksman up the inside of the Big Ben which was designed with actual content inside of it such as cogs scaffolding, occasionaly picking off scrubs that would try to bite me as zombies to turn me before I shot them in the head. So close to the very top of the tower, working my way across some portion of the upper tower, when in a split second my platform fell out from underneath me and I fell from the top of the Big Ben to the ground below, dead of course when I hit the bottom. Turns out they destroyed the base of the entire Big Ben, causing the entire thing to fall and eternally crush me. They wrecked me, although I felt like a bird for a split second.

Final Verdict:
- Overall, if you are looking for something fun to pass the time, Ace of Spades is right up your alley. Im not hardcore, and certainly not open to change, which is what most of the other negative reviews can be based on. Just wait for a sale and youll feel like you got your money's worth on this game.

This game, before Jagex took ahold of it, was a very light, simple cult classic. It was so beautifully simple in concept and in visuals; but there was still depth and skill involved. Jagex took an amazing game and turned it into a kiddy-friendly Minecraft/Call of Duty crossover. This game is absolute literal garbage.

How can a company screw such a game so bad?

At least use some lube next time, Jagex

I have yet to see a complete ♥♥♥♥ - ing 200% downgrade as much as this.
The original was a fairely nice looking game with good graphics, animations, going down the realismish look.
Ace of Spades: Battle Builder is slower than the old one despite looking crappy ♥♥♥♥ - ing EVERYTHING.

And to top it off the first one was free while Ace of Spades: Battle Builder is $15 AND the develepers have a DLC for $8.

Do not buy this. period.

I love this game, I just ♥♥♥♥ing love this game. The only thing it needs is couple of fixes of bugs and more weapons and classes! This is one of my favorite games, but I barely get to play it now, because of the bad optimization. It laggs a lot sometimes.

Was a very good game when it first launched. But Jagex then nerfed snipers to much, and took too long to make updates that could made the game really fun. Because of this the community for ace of spades dropped significantly since its launch and now has very little people playing it in multiplayer as it once did. overall 3/10.

This game had a legacy before it was turned into kiddie crap by Jagex, who still list it as "Indie" for whatever reason. Ace Of Spades, in its infancy, was a rougher, uglier, and all-around funner game that ran on the already-old VoxLap engine (by Ken Silverman, the same mastermind behind Duke 3D's Build Engine), so simple and resource-light that even a crummy Pentium 4 could play any map at full speed. It was a cult-classic, and a smash hit with many internet communities of all sizes.
It was developed mostly by a single hobbyist, one Ben Aksoy, who developed it as freeware and updated it, not to cash in on gimmicks or appeal to unfunny children, but because it was his passion to improve the game wherever possible. There were no classes, only a selection of two– later three– primary weapons, along with a shovel, grenade, and pickaxe to reshape or collapse the world.
This isn't a review of that game from 2011, this is a synopsis of what a nightmare it became after it was picked up by a bad publisher. The game was acquired by the extremely reputable Jagex Ltd., a publisher and developer with absolutely no past reputation of taking any popular games and ruining them for fast cash. The result took the planned OpenGL engine for the original game, intended to provide sharper graphics and shading, made it sluggish (It initially didn't even work on most AMD graphics solutions) and added a slapdashed class system with grating, corny voice lines worse than a manchild cartoon reviewer doing impressions on YouTube. The ability to procedurally generate a map was also absent from the "final" payware release on Steam, in favor of some amateurish prefab maps.
At this point, I purchased the game at full price at launch, naîvely expecting that it would be mostly a rehash of the original with some visuals and polish on top to attract new users. It was quite a while before Jagex finally "added" a [worse] version of the original game mode to the product, to compliment the diamond mine mode, and obligatory "zombie" mode. The game is not early-access, nor has it ever been, but it has always felt unfinished, even compared to its prerelease forerunner. Version 0.75 felt more like an old PC game from the heyday of CS 1.6 or Quake III. It never got stale between the little updates, maps could be edited, characters and weapons could be skinned, and you could play against new people again and again.
This proprietary release has barely improved after more than three years, despite generating revenue, in contrast to the original freeware version by Ben Aksoy. Jagex's three improvements I can testify for are: Fixing the issue where the game was a blank screen on many GPUs, adding a dumbed-down "Classic" mode that's still a shell of the former game, and finally adding a way to make maps during the "Battle Builder" rebrand, a feature that the 2011 beta ALREADY HAD.

The good news is, you, as a consumer, can just ignore this slaughter of intellectual property. Just go search for "Build & Shoot", or if GNU is your thing, try "OpenSpades".

This game used to be amasing. I loved to play it, but then Jagex decided to ruin it. This game has a lot of potential, and I wish Jagex knew that.
