This is very playable but it wasn't ready to leave early access. As an EA title I could recommend it but it doesn't cut it as a full release. The game just isn't finished.

First review I've written, but I must point out that this game is broken as is. I put a lot of time in to this game during early access and was excited to see it go full release. I understand why the mechanic of goblins tunneling was introduced and it is a good idea, however every time goblins tunnel in to my base the game crashes. I've had to quit playing altogether because this is just too frustrating to deal with constantly. Twice per season the game crashes and if I forget to save I can lose a couple hours of progress. If this gets fixed, I'll pick the game back up and change my recommendation, but until then, I'm done.

Does fun when you know what to do.

Non understandable and frustrating issues e.g. gnoms aren't picking up their tools, are idle instead of transfering items to the stockpile....etc..and you don't know why because UI gives no information.
No tutorial
Highly complicated and confusing UI

Game is far from being finished, it should be pushed back into Early Access.

Definitely a good game, and I enjoyed my 32 hours with it. But the thing that kills it for me is the clunky UI, which makes building complicated things time-consuming, and micro-management inefficient because it's hard to get the information you need at-a-glance to inform your decisions.

I do like the core mechanics and micro-managing everything, but I just can't stand the UI anymore - even with lots of keyboard shortcuts enabled.

If you decide to play the game and aren't familiar with the genre, I'd *highly* recommend reading a wiki because there's tonnes of cryptic things that you need to know about.

+ less micro management than dwarf fortress
+ much easier learning curve than dwarf fortress
+ moddable items and data.
- Walls are impenetrable, and so are one-way traps. AI pathfinding can't deal with this very well.
- If the AI can't find a path into your base it brings a teleporter the next time it comes. The game calls this thing a 'tunnel' but it's a teleporter.
- You can absolutely use traps to prevent surface attacks from ever reaching inside your base (despite above), but your gnomes will probably wander into those traps unless you disable your butcher / corpse pile / scavengers
- enemies with ranged attacks ? haven't seen em.
- wooden rail fences are just as indestructible as Steel walls. more indestructible than steel doors.
- not using path blocking traps is not a viable late game option, but using them properly means enemies have no chance to survive.

If you wanted a very simple version of dwarf fortress - here it is.
A few of the DF annoyances are very hard to solve here - want your gnomes to avoid an area? Sorry.

It's still frustration prone and a huge time sink - but I didn't have 'fun'
