“Smartly built, endlessly entertaining, and unexpectedly heartwarming, Dadliest Catch manages to turn an utterly ridiculous concept into one of the most surprising games in recent memory.”
9/10 – EGM

“Octodad is a great example of a game that conveys a message through gameplay. In conjunction with its story, characters, and setting, the controls offer an empathetic look into the life of an extreme outsider trying to fit in and trying to do right by his family. I love that. Gaming is growing up, and Octodad is some of the best evidence of that.”
91/100 – VentureBeat

“Octodad: Dadliest Catch has one of the great comic premises ever attempted in video games...For much of Dadliest Catch's playtime, everything works in a kind of chaotic harmony, creating comedy out of every day situations that are, unsurprisingly, ludicrously challenging for a cephalopod in a suit.”
4/5 – Giant Bomb

About This Game

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a game about destruction, deception, and fatherhood. The player controls Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about his life. Octodad's existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodan nature a secret from his human family.

In this sequel to the splash hit Octodad, our cephaloprotagonist has gotten himself in a bind between his wife’s mounting mistrust, and a disastrous trip to the local aquarium! Are you dad enough to control the titular octopus father as he strives to hide his nautical nature from his family while keeping his tangled tentacles intact?

In Octo-ber 2010, a group of university students released the original Octodad into the world. Despite everyone being convinced that the game was about a normal human dad, the game was a cult hit, gained critical acclaim, and was an Independent Games Festival Student Finalist in 2011. Octodad received enough attention that the team decided to run a Kickstarter, form the game studio Young Horses, and create a bigger, better, more polished game about Octodad. Two and a half years after beginning production, Octodad: Dadliest Catch is ready to flop awkwardly into your arms.

Key Features

  • Octodad’s wacky physics create hilarious moments that are different every time. Be surprised by the randomness of Octodad’s flailing or express your own sense of humor by making Octodad do silly things.
  • An all-new adventure that explores Octodad’s world, relationships and backstory.
  • Complete Octodad’s sartorial style by collecting and wearing a variety of hidden neckties.
  • Gather family members and/or friends to control Octodad's limbs in co-op mode with 2 to 4 players. Up to 4 times the limbsanity!
  • Gain access to the (Windows Only) level editor that the Young Horses used to create Octodad: Dadliest Catch. Create your own ridiculous levels for Octodad to squish and flop through and submit them to Steam Workshop.
  • Play mod levels created by the Steam community and the creators of Octodad on Steam Workshop. (PC/Mac/Linux)
  • Experience Dadliest Catch’s unique control scheme with various control inputs, including X360, DualShock4, Mouse + Keyboard, Mac multitouch trackpad, Windows 8 touchscreens. For gamepads, XInput is best supported, as DirectInput requires manual remapping in most circumstances.

This game was absolutely stunning. I have played this game 5 times over and collected all the ties. It is a massive improvement over the original Octodad and I think it is at a great price. The multiplayer was fun and the storyline was deep and emotional, it wasn't afraid to bring up problems with society like beastiality.

Ok in all seriousness it was actually very fun and I think that it has a great replay value with friends because it's different each time when you select what limbs people have control over.

I just wish it was longer

A fun game that can be a bit frustrating. It's a pretty short game but I definitely got my $3.00 worth. I haven't messed with any of the Workshop items so I can't comment on how much that adds.

This game is really fun, but I don't like the fact I have to start over a check point when ever I go back on. For example, if I'm halfway done the store, and I have to go to school, and later I log back on, it makes me start at the beginning of the store, not the part were I was. Other then that, great game.

Dear Beginners/ Future Octodad:Deadliest catch owners,

Not even an hour spent on this game I have already gave up trying to exit just a single room. I can tell you this, though, this game is pretty hard to master. If you use a track pad PLEASE, I mean PLEASE DO NOT dare play this as you will have longer times than usual completing a single level. Even for people who actually have a mouse, I have concluded that it's difficult. Although once you get the hang of the whole control scheme, you will have a better time playing and more likely a less frustrating experience. That means that you know how to walk at least 2 steps without getting stuck and being able to transition to your arms relatively quick to open something, like a door or a cabinet for instance. If you find yourself getting bored or feeling like you should give up, don't, always be consistent this game takes a lot of hard work, so just maintain consistency.

But the reason why I recommend this game as a "Yes"... is simply because the game itself is interesting and, of course it's a puzzle game, which is fun for those of you who want to use your brains a lot. This puzzle game involves common sense and it actually tells you objectives as to what you're trying to accomplish. Doing this with friends are more fun, despite that it may take longer, it's pretty comedic probably because of the physics established in the game. When Octodad does an accidental split or turns his body in an awkward position it can be hilarious. Oh I haven't even expressed how fantastic the local coop is, all I'm gonna say about it is it's HILARIOUS, that's pretty straight forward.

For those of you that hate hard games, go play something else, this game is not for you I asure you

You will experience cancer as this game is meant to prevent you from succeding its objectives, that's just my point of view. Impatience is what will cause you to rage quit, just because you completed a level doesn't mean you're going to get through all the other ones at your desired time.

Pros:
Original gameplay
Comedy
Varied levels
Solid exploration of game mechanics

Cons:
Fairly short game (About 2 hours)
Camera views can be a bit obnoxious to work with

Overall, I'm glad that I bought it, but you should probably wait for a sale considering how short it is.

Octo Dad is a metaphor for fatherhood. You start out having no clue what you're doing but you bumble through it for years until you suddenly realize you're pretty good at it.

Look. This is Tiny Octopus and this is one of my favorite games on Steam. (duh.) If you ever wanted to know the trials and tribulations of walking around on four legs when you should be on eight, or trying to keep from being made into Odori-dun by some psychopathic chef, this is the game for you. Whether Tiny Octopus is hurling apples at people's heads or dumping chocolate milk all over the carpet, this game is as accurate a presentation of what it's like to be a cephalopod out of water.

Keep at it. You can do it. Soon, you'll understand what it is to be an octopus, and when we rise from the oceans, you will be ready to accept us as your cephalopodian overlords. Just, no lemons, and no calimari.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch isn't just another silly casual game with purposely goofy controls and a gimmick that dies out after five minutes.
Octodad is more than that. There's a story behind it, and a pretty nice message too.

I don't normally write reviews, but I felt like I had to for this game because I feel like I could personally relate to it in my own little way. Although this is purely subjective I believe that behind the story is possibly one of the most powerful messages about love and acceptance.

If you want to hear my conclusion of the message behind the story then read the spoilers below.

Throughout the entire story Octodad is trying to hide his identity as an Octopus in his attempt to fit in with the humans and keep his happy family together. All through the game he messes up, he's a walking disaster, he can't do anything without destroying half of the things in his path, you can hear people talking about his "sliminess" and general negative comments, along with the chef constantly trying to kill him.

I think we've all felt like this at times, and maybe even wondered if we're worthy of love if this is all we do and so many people dislike us. but his family still love him. They still love this "Slimy" "disgusting" octopus-man even though nobody else, and possibly himself understood why. They saw the good in this kind and caring being that he most likely didn't and loved him despite his octo-flaws. I guess you could say they also gave him a reason to believe in himself, to defy the odds and ultimately reveal his true self to his family, to love himself exactly the way he is and live that happy life we're all searching for. Ultimately I believe that although many negative comments and hurt may be thrown our way by other people, it doesn't make the good we and others see in ourselves any less real.

I dedicate this review to my wonderful girlfriend, who saved me like Octodad's family saved Octodad.

The game is awesome in itself, but much more when played in local coop.

At this point you probably already know what the game is about so I won't go into that.

My only problem with Octodad: Dadliest Catch is how short it is. The rest is stupid fun but actually has an objective and doesn't get boring in 30 minutes like goat simulator (i should be shot for relating goat similator to this game, this game is so much better). The controls aren't that bad at all. Instead of making you rage, it makes you laugh and somehow makes you feel more accomplished with each level. It's not "Press W to walk forwards" it's "manually move you're legs in that direction" which makes you feel more involved in the game.

It's worth 15 dollars but if it's on sale, GET IT.

I typically don't like games that seem gimmicky and have limited appeal for the player base. OCTODAD has interesting mechanics and couch side co-op is a blast. I haven't had this much fun flailing around solving puzzles and laughing in years. Great game definitely worth trying.

I loved the concept of the original Octodad student project. This game builds on that with a deeper story, controller support and better controls overall. Finished the game in three hours the first time and speedran it many times since then. Always fun.

This game has a bit of humor in it and was a lot of fun to play. It's also the only game my GF has ever shown any interest in, so I can say that it's a lot of fun to watch someone else play too. I'll probably start this up whenever people come over.

I would definetly recommend it, however I should point out that this game is very short. I think I beat it in about 3 hours.

I recommend Octodad, or at least, I recommend it for the £3/$5 it cost me. At full price, you'll feel a little cheated by the lack of content: it lasts about two hours, and it's replay value depends on how invested you are in finding collectibles, or satisfying bonus objectives to get achievements.
What's here, though, is good. I found it very playable will both controller and keyboard/mouse playstyles. The game doesn't torture you with the difficulty in controlling Octodad: it presents amusing, fun environments for you to generally make a mess of. It demands very little to complete, but nicely ramps up the difficulty if you want to "see everything" - collecting ties, etc.
Overall, Octodad is a light-hearted, fun diversion that I'd recommend easily at a reduced price. If you're desperate to play you won't mind paying full, but if this is a bit of a whim purchase for you, hold off for sales.
As a word of caution, though, since I could not find this information anywhere before I bought it: it really doesn't work well with the Steam controller.
