Reviews

“Smartly built, endlessly entertaining, and unexpectedly heartwarming, Dadliest Catch manages to turn an utterly ridiculous concept into one of the most surprising games in recent memory.”
9/10 – EGM

“Octodad is a great example of a game that conveys a message through gameplay. In conjunction with its story, characters, and setting, the controls offer an empathetic look into the life of an extreme outsider trying to fit in and trying to do right by his family. I love that. Gaming is growing up, and Octodad is some of the best evidence of that.”
91/100 – VentureBeat

“Octodad: Dadliest Catch has one of the great comic premises ever attempted in video games...For much of Dadliest Catch's playtime, everything works in a kind of chaotic harmony, creating comedy out of every day situations that are, unsurprisingly, ludicrously challenging for a cephalopod in a suit.”
4/5 – Giant Bomb

About This Game

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a game about destruction, deception, and fatherhood. The player controls Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about his life. Octodad's existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodan nature a secret from his human family.

In this sequel to the splash hit Octodad, our cephaloprotagonist has gotten himself in a bind between his wife’s mounting mistrust, and a disastrous trip to the local aquarium! Are you dad enough to control the titular octopus father as he strives to hide his nautical nature from his family while keeping his tangled tentacles intact?

In Octo-ber 2010, a group of university students released the original Octodad into the world. Despite everyone being convinced that the game was about a normal human dad, the game was a cult hit, gained critical acclaim, and was an Independent Games Festival Student Finalist in 2011. Octodad received enough attention that the team decided to run a Kickstarter, form the game studio Young Horses, and create a bigger, better, more polished game about Octodad. Two and a half years after beginning production, Octodad: Dadliest Catch is ready to flop awkwardly into your arms.

Key Features

  • Octodad’s wacky physics create hilarious moments that are different every time. Be surprised by the randomness of Octodad’s flailing or express your own sense of humor by making Octodad do silly things.
  • An all-new adventure that explores Octodad’s world, relationships and backstory.
  • Complete Octodad’s sartorial style by collecting and wearing a variety of hidden neckties.
  • Gather family members and/or friends to control Octodad's limbs in co-op mode with 2 to 4 players. Up to 4 times the limbsanity!
  • Gain access to the (Windows Only) level editor that the Young Horses used to create Octodad: Dadliest Catch. Create your own ridiculous levels for Octodad to squish and flop through and submit them to Steam Workshop.
  • Play mod levels created by the Steam community and the creators of Octodad on Steam Workshop. (PC/Mac/Linux)
  • Experience Dadliest Catch’s unique control scheme with various control inputs, including X360, DualShock4, Mouse + Keyboard, Mac multitouch trackpad, Windows 8 touchscreens, DirectInput, and XInput controllers which all can be remapped to any configuration a player may want.

Synopsis: Will you be able to successfully blend into the human world even though you are really an octopus?

YEA!
-Fun to play
-Loveable characters
-Controll Scheme is hard to use and master, but a blast anyhow

MEH!
-How they not know your a octopus!
-Better yet how did they reproduce?
-Some things are a pain to accomplish

BLEH!
-Too short

The Lowdown:

In octodad you play as as, well a octopus who must hide the fact that he is an octopus from his family. Yes, an octopus married a human and somehow had human kids! Doing so is not easy though as you must complete your every day chores and activities without raising suspicion. The control scheme involves you independantly moving your arms or feet to move accross the area and grab things. Sounds easy but ends up being difficulty to master. Neverless it is entertaining resulting in hillarious situations or screenshot moments.

The story is quite short and only will take a few hours to complete, But it makes up for it in all likeable characters, from your reporter wife who is too dumb to know your a sea creature, the loveable daughter who is the only one with a brain who knows your a sea creature. Then you have the main villain the sushi chef who wants to make you into his main course! Oh yea there is a son in there but he is the lame forgetable one...

Verdict: Will keep you entertained through its short playthrough that should be picked up at any sale price

I couldn't find the milk, so I destroyed the whole fridge, tossed ♥♥♥♥ around and pummeled my daughter with crayons. I'm still a better father than Chris Benoit. Wait, I'm supposed to say if you should buy Octodad? Oh, sure, go ahead and buy it, it's a really good game.

Psst, ever wanted to be a perfectly normal dad? Now, before i bore you to death, it gets better. Play as Octodad, a octopus disguising himself as a normal human dad, the controls are bad on purpose, but once you get used to them it really is not that bad.
With the new shorts having been added, there is even more reason to play this game. The steam workshop adds a bit of extra content aswell, but keep in mind that compared to a workshop like Skyrim, there isn't much good content to choose from in the workshop, arguably.
Despite the fact the look and screenshots may put you off due to the 'bright and happy' (Maybe not the right words) you should give it a try.

You play as a loving father who cares much for his wife and kids. You wake up, do your chores, shop for groceries and take trip to the local aquarium. The thing is though, you have a secert life. Everyone doesn't know it, but you are a drug addict. Go about your day, trying to do everyday things while as high as the Empire State building. It is a very emotional game about a father trying to cope with his problems. Very fun game, but sadly a short one. Buy it when it is on sell. I don't know why it's called Octodad though, the main charater is completely human.

Why do I keep thinking of Portal? Is it the bright, clean aesthetic? The bevy of fun puzzles based around simple, easy to learn mechanics? The amazing quotability? The amount of character and personality squeezed from every last thing in the game? The incredibly catchy song? The short game-time with huge amounts of replayability?
Oh yes, that's right. It's all of them.

blurb blurb blurb blurb BLUUUURRRBBB!!!!

octodad is one of my personal favourite indie games out there! its original and no other games have the same design. octodad is a game where you are an octopus (obviously) but no one knows that! they all think you are a normal human, but whats under the suit?? theres not alot of missions to do sadly, BUT there ate ALOT of things to do once the story has been accomplished. There are 3 ties in each level which you can collect and try get them all, and theres many achievements to earn! some may be challanging but still worth going for. alot of fun comes from this game and its well worth your money, but some sales bring the prices down sooo low!! to sum this up, octodad is unique, weird (in a good way) and loads of fun!!

I'm not that good at writing reviews, but I'll give it a go.
This game is one of the funniest games I've ever played, as well as one of the most charming. And it's incredibly fun, though I wish it was more fun on your second playthrough. Some people will probably find good mods to entertain themselves after beating the game, but I haven't found any that are nearly as good as the main storyline.

Honestly, when I bought this game I thought it'd just be a ♥♥♥♥ty joke game and I'd play it for an hour. Boy was I wrong. This game was worth every penny, there was so much dicking around to be done! The intro scene was really good too. Buy this game now or you will regret it years later pls 666/10 better than jeebuz
