Stress test your PC

Introducing 3DMark Stress Tests

Did you know that you can use 3DMark for more than just benchmarking? Over two-thirds of users turn to 3DMark to check the stability of their overclocks. And more than half use it to test system cooling performance.

Now we've made it easier than ever to check the stability of your PC by adding a dedicated stress testing feature to 3DMark.

The aim of stress testing is to place a high load on your system for an extended period of time to expose any problems with stability and reliability. It can also help you identify faulty hardware or the need for better cooling.

The best time to run a 3DMark Stress Test is after buying or building a new PC, upgrading your graphics card, or overclocking your GPU. If your GPU crashes or produces visual artifacts during the test, it may indicate a reliability or stability problem. If it overheats and shuts down, you may need more cooling in your computer.

3DMark now includes four levels of stress testing based on Sky Diver, Fire Strike, Fire Strike Extreme, and Fire Strike Ultra.

Each 3DMark Stress Test runs for 20 loops without pausing for loading screens or other breaks. A test takes around 10 minutes to run, which is usually enough to uncover any stability or cooling issues.

After running a 3DMark Stress Test, you will see your system’s Frame Rate Stability score. A high score means your PC's performance under load is stable and consistent. To pass the test, your system must complete all loops with a Frame Rate Stability of at least 97%.

In the example above, you can see that the system failed the test because its average frame rate dropped from 59 FPS to 51 FPS after the GPU reached its peak temperature. 3DMark shows that the system was not able to maintain a consistent level of performance under load. It had throttled down its performance when hot, suggesting that better cooling may be needed.

About This Software

3DMark includes everything you need to benchmark your hardware. With its wide range of benchmarks, you can test everything from tablets and notebooks to the latest 4K gaming PCs. It's the most powerful and flexible 3DMark we've ever created.

3DMark is for gamers, overclockers and system builders who want to get the most out of their hardware. When you buy 3DMark on Steam you unlock all tests, settings, and features.

Better benchmarking with 3DMark

The right test every time
We've made it easy to find the right test for your PC. 3DMark automatically scans your hardware and recommends the best benchmark for your system.

Choose your tests
3DMark grows bigger every year with new tests. When you buy 3DMark from Steam, you can choose to install only the tests you need.

Hardware monitoring
Detailed charts show you how the CPU and GPU temperatures, clock speeds, and the frame rate changed during your benchmark run.

Custom settings
Explore your PC's performance limits with custom benchmark settings. You can change the rendering resolution and quality across a range of settings.

Benchmark Tests

Fire Strike - For high-performance gaming PCs
Fire Strike is a showcase DirectX 11 benchmark designed for today's high-performance gaming PCs. Use Fire Strike to test dedicated gaming PCs, Fire Strike Extreme for high-end systems with multiple GPUs (Crossfire/SLI), or try Fire Strike Ultra, the world's first 4K Ultra HD benchmark.

Sky Diver - For gaming laptops and mid-range PCs
Sky Diver is a DirectX 11 benchmark that is ideal for testing mainstream graphics cards, mobile GPUs, integrated graphics and other systems that cannot achieve double-digit frame rates in the more demanding Fire Strike test.

Cloud Gate - For notebooks and home PCs
Use Cloud Gate to test the performance of notebooks and typical home PCs with DirectX 10 compatible hardware.

Ice Storm - For basic tablets and smartphones
Use Ice Storm, Ice Storm Extreme, and Ice Storm Unlimited to compare smartphones and tablets across platforms.

Feature Tests

API Overhead feature test - Compare the latest graphics APIs
The 3DMark API Overhead feature test is the world's first independent test for comparing the performance of DirectX 12, Mantle, and DirectX 11. See how many draw calls your PC can handle with each API before the frame rate drops below 30 fps.

Stress Tests

Check the stability of your system
Stress testing is a good way to check the reliability and stability of your system after buying or building a new PC, upgrading your graphics card, or overclocking your GPU. Stress testing can also identify faulty hardware or the need for better cooling.

VRMark Preview

Is your PC ready for VR?
Experience an interactive preview of VRMark, our upcoming virtual reality benchmark. In this preview, you can explore two VRMark test scenes with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. But don't worry if you don't have a headset. The preview works with your monitor too.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • OS:Windows Vista*
    • Processor:1.8 GHz dual-core
    • Memory:2 GB RAM
    • Graphics:DirectX 9**
    • Storage:3 GB space

Please refer to the DLC pages for the system requirements for each individual benchmark test.

    * Windows Vista users will need to install the DirectX 11 platform update from Microsoft.
** You can use 3DMark to test DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 compatible hardware, but you will need a DirectX 11 compatible video card to run all of the tests. DirectX 9 hardware needs Shader Model 3.0 support, 128MB video card memory and WDDM 1.1 drivers.

I spend more time trying to fix the run errors and trying to fix program issues than actually benchmarking.

Support page is useless.

This software is very useful and can be used to compare the relative performance of one's setup. It's sometimes marked down as much as 50% off during a steam sale. For that price, it's definitely worth it. It's also an important tool for figuring out what prospecting future PC upgrades are the best for you price/performance wise. Lastly, it's simple to use and gives detailed and accurate information that allow one to be informed regarding the best options on the market regarding PC components.

I rate it 9/10. This is a piece of software that should be included in any PC ethusiast's library.

3DMark is very good BUT Steam doesn't register when the program is closed and thus can not close. I have to terminate it with the task manager. This is really annoying, pls fix. Then I'll give it a thumbs up.

This is a good benchmarking suite that uses realistic workloads and I consider it the gold-standard of benchmarking as of now. Grab this while it's still 80% off on Steam!

They say the moment you start going to the gym is the moment you become forever small, this benchmark is kinda like that. The moment you install and run it is the moment your computer will never be good enough, doesn't matter how many supplements upgrades you throw at it.

My review

This is an excellent benchmark software for the modern PC. Even in the year 2016 it is still up to date with benchmarks that can make even SLI setups beg for mercy. The online system provided allows for comparison with similarly equipped PC's so you can see if your setup is up to par or if something is wrong. If you constantly build or are building a PC, this software is a must have in my opinion.

This game is the most pay-to-win game I have ever played. To have any hope of getting near the top of leaderboards you will have to spend at least 4-5k of your hard earned cash, and, to add to all of this, there is no gameplay to be found, just a series of cutscenes with no relevance to eachother at all. This is a grim sign of where the industry is headed.
