Test DirectX 12 with Time Spy

Benchmark the DirectX 12 performance of your PC today with 3DMark Time Spy

We're excited to announce that 3DMark Time Spy - our new DirectX 12 benchmark test - has been released on Steam. Time Spy is available now as a free update for all Windows editions of 3DMark, including the Steam demo.

Developed with input from AMD, Intel, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and the other members of our Benchmark Development Program, 3DMark Time Spy is one of the first DirectX 12 apps to be built "the right way" from the ground up to fully realize the performance gains that the new API offers.

DirectX 12, introduced with Windows 10, is a low-level graphics API that reduces processor overhead. With less overhead and better utilization of modern GPU hardware, a DirectX 12 game engine can draw more objects, textures and effects to the screen.

With its pure DirectX 12 engine, which supports new API features like asynchronous compute, explicit multi-adapter, and multi-threading, 3DMark Time Spy is the ideal benchmark for testing the DirectX 12 performance of the latest graphics cards.

Start benchmarking with Time Spy

If you have the 3DMark demo, just download the latest version to get the Time Spy update.

If you bought 3DMark on Steam before July 14, 2016, download the latest version to get the Time Spy update or you can add it to 3DMark from the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark DLC page. The optional Time Spy upgrade unlocks additional features including Time Spy custom benchmark settings, the Time Spy Stress Test, and the ability to skip the Time Spy demo.

On July 23, the price of 3DMark will increase from $24.99 to $29.99. Until then, we have a special launch promotion offering 60% off the normal price.

Feature Tests

API Overhead feature test - Compare the latest graphics APIs
The 3DMark API Overhead feature test is the world's first independent test for comparing the performance of DirectX 12, Mantle, and DirectX 11. See how many draw calls your PC can handle with each API before the frame rate drops below 30 fps.

Stress Tests

Check the stability of your system
Stress testing is a good way to check the reliability and stability of your system after buying or building a new PC, upgrading your graphics card, or overclocking your GPU. Stress testing can also identify faulty hardware or the need for better cooling.

VRMark Preview

Is your PC ready for VR?
Experience an interactive preview of VRMark, our upcoming virtual reality benchmark. In this preview, you can explore two VRMark test scenes with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. But don't worry if you don't have a headset. The preview works with your monitor too.

Requisiti di sistema

    Minimum:
    • OS:Windows Vista*
    • Processor:1.8 GHz dual-core
    • Memory:2 GB RAM
    • Graphics:DirectX 9**
    • Storage:3 GB space

Please refer to the DLC pages for the system requirements for each individual benchmark test.

    * Windows Vista users will need to install the DirectX 11 platform update from Microsoft.
** You can use 3DMark to test DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 compatible hardware, but you will need a DirectX 11 compatible video card to run all of the tests. DirectX 9 hardware needs Shader Model 3.0 support, 128MB video card memory and WDDM 1.1 drivers.

Waited an eternity for Time Spy for it to be a gimped benchmark that caters to Nvidia. AMD have the forethought to plan for Async Compute on a hardware level whereas Nvidia didn't. Your algorithms shouldn't give Pascal/Nvidia a helping hand ever. It defies the entire point of a neutral benchmark.

I wouldn't recommend this software unless you find it on sale for a couple dollars for Firestrike like I did. GG Futuremark.

started this up after 8-10 months or so and after running time spy demo the software failed in running firestrike afterwards. firestrike quickly went into windowed mode after starting up and it was just blank with a window border as the software was in the background. cant explain it, but systeminfo or something like that was apparently running into a wall. i am quite sure it had something to do with the gathering of pc info (hence) resulting in the hanging of my steam (r.i.p) being unable to actually close it. i will not verify this because i probably wont be running this software again because i don't really care enough seeing that those months before, the benchamarking went very smoothly even with unstable overclocks on my graphics card. to be specific on this point, time spy did some weird black screen and horrible color meshing in the gpu test 2 instead of my driver failing from a bad overclock (which was more than stable at the time of testing)...i'd suspect its an inherent bug. Even if it is a one-of thing happening to me however, i really don't care seeing as furthermore time spy isnt an actual dx12 benchmark and that its p2benchmark.

2/10 made me care less about benchmarking my system in general

I have had problems trying to use this program for the last few months. It gets stuck on collecting system info and 1 out of 10 times actually ran. I don't know what happened but until it is fixed don't throw your money away on something that doesn't run.

This game is the most pay-to-win game I have ever played. To have any hope of getting near the top of leaderboards you will have to spend at least 4-5k of your hard earned cash, and, to add to all of this, there is no gameplay to be found, just a series of cutscenes with no relevance to eachother at all. This is a grim sign of where the industry is headed.

Some people don't seem to understand the purpose of benchmarking software. If that is you, then 3DMark probably isn't for you. Most games pre-render their cutscenes, as some computers can't handle them. 3DMark renders extremely complex scenes locally on your system. This allows you to measure the power of your setup, and see how it will perform in games. The other advantage is for overclocking. You can get a score before and after the overclock. This will give you a baseline to see how much improvement you've squeezed from a device with your overclocks. Additionally, an overclock isn't always stable once a card reachers higher heat, or you push it to its limits. 3DMark can also be used to test your stability. If you can run it for a few hours without a crash, your overclock is probably stable! On top of that, the scenes are a joy to look at, and really fun for showing off your computer when friends come over! If you are more than a gamer, a computer enthusiast, pick this up! You won't be dissapointed. If you want a free alternative, check out the "Unigine" benchmarks. They are fun too, but won't give the indepth details that 3Dmark will. -PR0XIDIAN
