Test DirectX 12 with Time Spy

Benchmark the DirectX 12 performance of your PC today with 3DMark Time Spy

We're excited to announce that 3DMark Time Spy - our new DirectX 12 benchmark test - has been released on Steam. Time Spy is available now as a free update for all Windows editions of 3DMark, including the Steam demo.

Developed with input from AMD, Intel, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and the other members of our Benchmark Development Program, 3DMark Time Spy is one of the first DirectX 12 apps to be built "the right way" from the ground up to fully realize the performance gains that the new API offers.

DirectX 12, introduced with Windows 10, is a low-level graphics API that reduces processor overhead. With less overhead and better utilization of modern GPU hardware, a DirectX 12 game engine can draw more objects, textures and effects to the screen.

With its pure DirectX 12 engine, which supports new API features like asynchronous compute, explicit multi-adapter, and multi-threading, 3DMark Time Spy is the ideal benchmark for testing the DirectX 12 performance of the latest graphics cards.

Start benchmarking with Time Spy

If you have the 3DMark demo, just download the latest version to get the Time Spy update.

If you bought 3DMark on Steam before July 14, 2016, download the latest version to get the Time Spy update or you can add it to 3DMark from the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark DLC page. The optional Time Spy upgrade unlocks additional features including Time Spy custom benchmark settings, the Time Spy Stress Test, and the ability to skip the Time Spy demo.

On July 23, the price of 3DMark will increase from $24.99 to $29.99. Until then, we have a special launch promotion offering 60% off the normal price.

3DMark Windows v2.0.2809

  • Fixed further compatibility issues with the Steam launcher and some specific operating system configurations that could cause the 64-bit version to refuse to start.
  • Fixed an issue with result file processing that could cause the benchmark to hang with a black screen at the end of a demo or test on some systems.

Benchmark Tests

Time Spy - DirectX 12 benchmark for Windows 10 PCs
With its pure DirectX 12 engine, built from the ground up to support new API features like asynchronous compute, explicit multi-adapter, and multi-threading, Time Spy is the ideal benchmark for testing the DirectX 12 performance of the latest graphics cards.

Fire Strike - For high-performance gaming PCs
Fire Strike is a showcase DirectX 11 benchmark designed for today's high-performance gaming PCs. Use Fire Strike to test dedicated gaming PCs, Fire Strike Extreme for high-end systems with multiple GPUs (Crossfire/SLI), or try Fire Strike Ultra, the world's first 4K Ultra HD benchmark.

Sky Diver - For gaming laptops and mid-range PCs
Sky Diver is a DirectX 11 benchmark that is ideal for testing mainstream graphics cards, mobile GPUs, integrated graphics and other systems that cannot achieve double-digit frame rates in the more demanding Fire Strike test.

Cloud Gate - For notebooks and home PCs
Use Cloud Gate to test the performance of notebooks and typical home PCs with DirectX 10 compatible hardware.

Ice Storm - For basic tablets and smartphones
Use Ice Storm, Ice Storm Extreme, and Ice Storm Unlimited to compare smartphones and tablets across platforms.

Feature Tests

API Overhead feature test - Compare the latest graphics APIs
The 3DMark API Overhead feature test is the world's first independent test for comparing the performance of DirectX 12, Mantle, and DirectX 11. See how many draw calls your PC can handle with each API before the frame rate drops below 30 fps.

Stress Tests

Check the stability of your system
Stress testing is a good way to check the reliability and stability of your system after buying or building a new PC, upgrading your graphics card, or overclocking your GPU. Stress testing can also identify faulty hardware or the need for better cooling.

VRMark Preview

Is your PC ready for VR?
Experience an interactive preview of VRMark, our upcoming virtual reality benchmark. In this preview, you can explore two VRMark test scenes with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. But don't worry if you don't have a headset. The preview works with your monitor too.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • OS:Windows Vista*
    • Processor:1.8 GHz dual-core
    • Memory:2 GB RAM
    • Graphics:DirectX 9**
    • Storage:3 GB space

Please refer to the DLC pages for the system requirements for each individual benchmark test.

    * Windows Vista users will need to install the DirectX 11 platform update from Microsoft.
** You can use 3DMark to test DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 compatible hardware, but you will need a DirectX 11 compatible video card to run all of the tests. DirectX 9 hardware needs Shader Model 3.0 support, 128MB video card memory and WDDM 1.1 drivers.

Nice and all but I wish they would go back and easier to use and look at results browser that does not have to be online\use a browser.
Ala 3dmark 99 pro. That was the best and easiest to use.
Still its an Ok benchmark even if the results browsers is far less flexible and more annoying to use then the one they made 17 years ago. 100% serious here. If anyone at futuremark reads this, put your offline result browser back in!!! It even had the ablity to make charts! and graphs! I don't care about others seing my results online, I just want an easy to archive local benchmark.

An unstable stability testing program is not exactly a glowing recommendation, is it now? I'm no stranger to stress testing and the pressure it puts upon equipment, and this is not someone with a normally functional computer on light loads who is enraged that his system is not up to the task when put to stress testing. I know these things. I have stress tested my PCs with programs such as Prime95 and AIDA (both free, by the way), which put severe stress upon components. Never had a problem. 3Dmark crashes when starting. 3Dmark crashes before starting any test, on the settings. 3Dmark crashes at random times. Futuremark's solutions have been tried, and failed. Seeing how the PC is stable both with games as well as other intensive stress test, I'd call this a waste of money and a failure. To add insult to injury, Futuremark has released a single DX12 benchmark as paid DLC, even for owners of the full, for-pay version. Perhaps they should devote more time to fixing bugs than milking the benchmark with dlc.

An absolute pain in the A$$ to install through Steam. I've been trying to run this damn thing for over an hour now. Constantly locked up when I would open it. Wouldn't recognize a valid/activated key... and kept wanting me to email sales@futuremark.com (i'm assuming because it wasn't recognizing a valid key). What a mess.

Website is horrible try to search for 16/14nm cards they wont show up on time spy.

Also benchmark doesn't time spy is horrible at measuring how well a card does parallel work.
Nice write up: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/627538-3d-mark-time-spy-benchmark-is-not-using-async-compute-as-we-know-it-new-report-suggests/

I'm not sure why people are complaining about having to pay for the dx12 benchmark. i'd much rather have "3DMark" in my library and pay $10 or so for the new benchmarks than pay full price each year for 3d mark 2015, 3dmark 2016, 3dmark 2017, 3d mark 2018 etc.

Product received for free
Most peoples dont understand why they should pay for test programm when thears free alternatives. I have used 3dmark from 1999 they always have got database. So lets face it you got notebook full of test results??? NO you dont coz we are lazy.

Only problem is over-overlocked in 3d mark results and users. They think they results are valid only coz they can run 3d mark. I got zero respect to thease kind users and this scane.

I mostly only look my own results. I always test 3dmark when i buy new computer part.

No one is forcing you to buy 3dmark. Most negative commets are from idiots and cheap peoples. Program do everything it promise.

New DLC feels like money-grabbing, especially considering you added achievements that can only be completed by buying the new DLC. This is in spite of your devs having received complaints about bad achievements, that actually require people spending money on new (or old) hardware just to complete, and you knowing full well that many people care about average completion rates. It just fells like a giant f*** you to your customers.

This game is the most pay-to-win game I have ever played. To have any hope of getting near the top of leaderboards you will have to spend at least 4-5k of your hard earned cash, and, to add to all of this, there is no gameplay to be found, just a series of cutscenes with no relevance to eachother at all. This is a grim sign of where the industry is headed.

Just when you think you have a pretty good rig. This program will smack that thought right out your head, Stomp on that dream, and crush any hopes of possibly obtaining that Master PC status again until tax time. 10/10

3. Go buy CPU/GPU.

4. Run it again.

Some people don't seem to understand the purpose of benchmarking software. If that is you, then 3DMark probably isn't for you. Most games pre-render their cutscenes, as some computers can't handle them. 3DMark renders extremely complex scenes locally on your system. This allows you to measure the power of your setup, and see how it will perform in games. The other advantage is for overclocking. You can get a score before and after the overclock. This will give you a baseline to see how much improvement you've squeezed from a device with your overclocks. Additionally, an overclock isn't always stable once a card reachers higher heat, or you push it to its limits. 3DMark can also be used to test your stability. If you can run it for a few hours without a crash, your overclock is probably stable! On top of that, the scenes are a joy to look at, and really fun for showing off your computer when friends come over! If you are more than a gamer, a computer enthusiast, pick this up! You won't be dissapointed. If you want a free alternative, check out the "Unigine" benchmarks. They are fun too, but won't give the indepth details that 3Dmark will. -PR0XIDIAN

Steam version uses slightly more memory since it runs above Steam, so turning off Steam download while running 3dmark and turning off Friends (no overlay) is recommended while running the tests.

Recommended ONLY for PC savies or top notch benchmarkers to see how far their overclocking ability goes up to.
also recommended for high textures games (mobile too) developers.
If you do not understand about clocking or new at benchmarking, don't buy this software, just use the free version.
Because, every money worth to its penny, and buying stuff that one unsure how it is supposed to work is a waste.

For anyone who bought this software,
do NOT let it dictates you on what your system is lacking. You only upgrades hardware that YOU need, not what 3DMark wants.
Finally, dont take it personally if 3DMark tells you that your system is below average,
afterall, YOU are the one playing those games, not 3DMark

this is great to compare your system to others and really push it to its limits. Especially now that you can test your system at 4K without having a 4K monitor to see if you even have a chance of playing games at 4K is a cool feature. This is also great to test how much of a performance increase your overclocking will get you.
