Reviews

"This is a quality piece of software. Even without the extra modules, this is simply amazing. The SU-25T is one of my favourite jets of all time, and it is brilliantly realised here, with so much content you feel guilty for getting it for free.

This only goes to show the confidence that DCS have in there Digital Combat Simulator, that they would give you so much for free. Stop reading this and go and download it now!." – Hubpages

"DCS World is a must-have for simulation enthusiasts who want as real as you can get in their home PC." – SimHQ

About This Game

Feel the excitement of flying the Su-25T "Frogfoot" attack jet and the TF-51D "Mustang" in the free-to-play Digital Combat Simulator World!

DCS World is a vehicle combat simulation game created by an inspired development team. DCS World uses a powerful engine that delivers realistic gameplay. The battlefield includes a spectacular mission area - the location of the Georgian conflict in 2008. Fly the Su-25T in a massive, semi-dynamic campaign to achieve dominance in the skies over Georgia! Experience the amazing flight dynamics and interactive cockpit of the TF-51D and understand why the Mustang is often regarded as the greatest fighter of the Second World War.

The huge variety of aircraft, land units and warships are included from countries such as the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, German Spain and others. Units are controlled by sophisticated Artificial Intelligence (AI) and they have an amazing levels of detail. This all allows for the creation of engaging, real-world combat missions in this flashpoint region. DCS is a true "sandbox" simulation that can and will cover multiple time periods covering many types of combat and civilian units.

Your exhilarating experience will be extended through additional DCS modules available through Steam. Such modules include the A-10C Warthog, Ka-50 Black Shark, the P-51D Mustang, UH-1H Huey, Mi-8MTV2, and ground combat control with Combined Arms.

This game can break you or it can make you. You'll know what a real "achievement" is when you take off in a helicopter 7 hours later and realise you know every switch in the cockpit. You find yourself reading books about hydrodynamics, aerodynamics and your reader library starts to look like a spy's wet dream with military plane manuals, charts, quick start guides and startup checklists. You can then distinguish MiG -15bis from MiG-17F, you start talking in abbreviations. Your right hand is getting really buff... because it takes a lot of force to keep that joystick in proper position for horisontal flight as older planes have basic trim and no autopilot. You then try to come back to normal life, but you don't understand why people don't know what Mach 1 is, what is the Bernulli's formula and how it relates to aerodynamics, how translational lift is achieved. Your hard disk isn't filled with porn or memes, it's filled with pictures of aircraft in random liveries that you flawlessly copy in Photoshop, you then learn how to actually use Photoshop properly. Radio talk is nothing new to you - you know What "Fox-1" is and the difference between "right 3 o'clock" and "3 o'clock", you know the distinction between UHF, VHF and what TACAN is. You buy books about seemingly forgotten conflicts, like war in Angola, and you read any bit of information related to airforces, airplanes, pilots. You actually know how to avoid a missile, what every strange beep and tone at every frequency is related to, your normal daily conversations with just about anyone usually start with "Did you know that nearly 50% of all Thunderchiefs were destroyed in 'Nam?" You have a strange aversion to civilian pilots and you cringe when you hear the word "captain" in relation to one of them. You actually know what aircraft are shown in the news... You then separate your steam library into "games" and "DCS".

How to support war against ISIS aka Islamic state.

1. Install DCS
2. Run it, Su-25 dlc is free.
3. Read manual and do some routine train missions: focus on bombing, cause ISIS there are no planes yet, no dogfighting.
4. You're ready to join Russian-aerospace forces
5. Take your real-life Su-25 and bomb ISIS
6. Return home alive and give my review a thumb up for being helpful.

Disclaimer - non steam user review, steam h dont count.

I'm with DCS since its grandpa Flanker 2.0,
I own all the modules and I lost count how many hours I spent on this simulator.

First of all I want to make two things clear:
1- this is single player simulator (MP is a addition) hence any comparison that people makes to War thunder are simply wrong. WT is a MP focused game hence it revolves around balancing - for this reason you can forget about "hard core" realism in WT.

2- about the "DLC`s" and supposed "pay 2 win" - those are not DLC`s in your normal steam understanding.
Apart from Flaming Cliffs aircrafts, every other Module is a in fact a study sim of a aircraft.
(A-10C and Blackshark were in fact stand alone sims)
That means you are getting fully modelled and simulated machine, with all working systems and avionics and with clickable cockpits. In fact to even take off you need to at least read through 10 maybe 20 pages of a manual.
Said manuals are usually 200 or even more pages long.
As far as high pricing is concerned - those planes gave me months or more of entertainment and will be doing so. For me all of them are worth the full price.

And this is why I`m in love with this simulator.
Apart from extraordinary attention to quality of each and every aircraft, DCS is the only simulator next to X-plane that uses "virtual wind tunnel" method to calculate the aerodynamics.
Thanks to this the feeling and immersion is unmatchable - I own many flight sims and addons but only DCS gives me the feeling that I`m in control of a real plane.
Second thing worth mentioning is that helicopter flight model in DCS is unmatchable with any other simulator.
Only maybe some helicopters for Xplane comes close.
I can say more - the flight model feels so great I'm spending half of the time just flying and not doing any combat!

What you get with basic DCS for free is also quite impressive - the two free aircrafts are absolutely above the quality of some X-plane/FSX pay-ware addons.
The TF-51 comes with fully modelled systems and click-able cockpit for example.

Plus simulator has powerful mission editor where you can create from scratch any type of mission/event you desire.

If that's not enough DCS stands for Digital Combat Simulator - you can already drive ground units thanks to Combined Arms expansion.

DCS is the best combat flight simulator on the market today, nothing gets even close to this- if you remember first Janes`s sims - you know what I mean.

Advice - before jumping into the DCS World - familiarize yourself with what the product is, and be prepared for very steep learning curve.
Also it is STRONGLY recommended to use joystick and head tracking device such as Trackir to fully immerse yourself into this sim.

Recommended beyond any doubts to any flight sim enthusiast.

The funny thing is, all the people that gave this game a negative review have 3 or less hours in game.

PS, don't expect to be able to fly within the first 5 minutes.

PPS, get track IR for this game.

PPPS, i suck at this game but still love it.

PPPPS, no seriously... get track IR for this
