About This Game

Cry of Fear is a psychological single-player and co-op horror game set in a deserted town filled with horrific creatures and nightmarish delusions. You play as a young man desperately searching for answers in the cold Scandinavian night, finding his way through the city as he slowly descends into madness. With a strong emphasis on cinematic experience, immersion and lateral thinking, players will be taken on a nightmare rollercoaster-ride through the grim streets of Fäversholm and beyond. Cry of Fear, I can and will say "One of the best Gold Source games in history".
The horrfic atmosphere, the intense action, the depressing story line, the spooks that are too real, we probably stopped at the first camera click jumpscare.
Let's review what I just said.

The Horrfic atmosphere
Looking at Cry of Fear's graphics and lighting, you have got to agree for a gold-source game to be really good and really scary.
How everything looks seems sketchy AF, not to mention how the enemies look in the game.
The cutscenes are decent when it comes to telling the story and animation itself.
To me, it looks like the eternal abyss is ready to engulf me in it's darkness.
72/100

Intense Action
Playing Cry of Fear alone is like trying to trust that sketchy hobo from the street.
The intense action only makes it worse(in spookiness that is).
The limted ammuniton and stupid melee weaponswhy is there a branch as a weapon?
makes me want to quit the game from fear itself.
There are barely any magazines lying around, the melee weapons are garbage, there is limited stamina, everything is dark, the enemies are spooky as F -U C K, I want to play with a friend but it's singleplayer, almost and is slowly making me pressing that escape key and quit.
89/100 would try to find out how to dual wield.

The Depressing Story Line
The story line goes like this,
Simon, a man in his 20's got dumped by his girlfriend as he slowly goes in a sprawl of depression and illusions, Simon starts cutting himself on his arm every day, anywhere.
Suddenly he sat outside, sitting on the sidewalk, cutting himself.
Simon sprawls into an illiusion and starts to fight for his life back.

After awhile, Police officers were ordered to investigate the missing of Simon.
4 Officers found his journal/notebook, and decided it would be best to read his journal/notebook to try to get information and his side of the investigation.
As the 4 Officers started to read the journal/notebook, they quickly realize that they were in Simon's illusion and they as well try to fight for their lives.

That's basically it, pretty depressing eh?
99/100 Just a bit too depressing you know?

The Spooks
Getting spooked in Cry of Fear, is like being drugged by STDs.
I cannot comprehend the spooks.

In general, Cry of Fear is one of those games that you have to try.
It's honestly intresting to play w/o friends, and horrifying trying to comprehend the jumpscares.

I rate this game
100/100

Awful voice acting is really my only complaint. The game is built on the goldsrc (the same one Half-Life 1 runs on) engine, and has tight controls and excellent combat. The scares are really nice, and the jump scares are few and far between. It's very atmospheric, and even has a co-op function. It's also free. FREE.

It'll also even run on potato PC's. So pick this up. What do you have to lose, honestly?

YESSSSSSS
This is the game that introduced me to the horror genre. I am TERRIBLE with guns in games (normally), but I made my way through this one fine. There were a few challenging places, but overall, I could handle it. I love the dark storyline and creativity of the various monsters. Being free makes it all the better! Definitly worth the download and time!

Cry of Fear is possibly the best free indie horror game I've ever played and it still holds up almost half a decade from it's initial release. The game is set in central Sweden, which makes for some very beautiful, yet dark and gritty scenery. The ammount of diffrent enemies in this game is crazy and their designs will be sure to give you plenty of nightmares. For those who didn't know, Cry of Fear was originally a mod for the original Half-Life, but then it became it's own standalone game here on Steam. To see what the developers have done with such an old game engine is absolutely astonishing. Those who don't like this game usually critique it for it's clunky combat, excessive backtracking, and overdone jumpscares. What most people are forgetting is that this game is absolutely free and it's way better than most of the Untiy garbage we have here on Steam today.

I’m a huge fan of Horror, and this was an awesome psychological horror game. It was also free so it was a win win. Good story, graphics are what you’d expect from an older game/ mod. Need more games like this!! Oh, and it’s best to play by yourself in the dark :p
