About This Game

Cry of Fear is a psychological single-player and co-op horror game set in a deserted town filled with horrific creatures and nightmarish delusions. You play as a young man desperately searching for answers in the cold Scandinavian night, finding his way through the city as he slowly descends into madness. With a strong emphasis on cinematic experience, immersion and lateral thinking, players will be taken on a nightmare rollercoaster-ride through the grim streets of Fäversholm and beyond. Not everything is as it seems...

Cry of Fear originally started out as a Half-Life 1 modification, set in the same vein as the classic survival horror games of old. 4 years in the making and picking up several modding awards on the way, it is now a free, standalone game for anyone to enjoy. Beware though, it's not for the faint of heart.

  • Multiple endings and over 20 different unlockables to keep you playing

The CoF campaign was scary and kept me on edge throughout the entire game, and I love how choosing to fight bosses and doing other things shape what your ending is going to be, whether you commit suicide from all the stuff you've been doing, or stay alive and have Simon be like "everything's going better" and all that.

This is my list of what Cry of Fear did:
+ Spooky soundtrack and audio kept my heart pounding
+ Unique enemies and bosses
+ Different endings/Results
+ Achievement unlocks for how well/what you did during your gameplay
+ Custom campaigns for unique experiences and scares
+ Spooky level designs
+ Gold Source (Half-life 1 era engine) game/mod that really stands out
+ Easter Eggs (i.e. Stephano from PewDiePie's Amnesia series)
+ Free to play
+ Disturbing and scary atmosphere
- Multiplayer requires hamachi (for me atleast), and whenver I enter certain areas, the players disconnect, and the only thing I am able to play MP on is cof_suicide 1, 2, 3, and 4 (4 works the best since players dont get kicked out after losing)

Also another thing, I found it better to play singleplayer for the custom/original campaign because MP seems to be bad for me, especially on Manhunt and the hotel area on the CoF MP campaign.

I absolutely enjoyed playing this game for the scares, story, and fun. Definitely worth playing especially for a free game, and I hope that Team Psykallar make a sequel (or prequel) for this in the future

Hey, you know what, this game is pretty good, except when you cant connect to your freinds games because of "STEAM validation rejected".
I love the game, but it really sucks when you cant play it.

Awful voice acting is really my only complaint. The game is built on the goldsrc (the same one Half-Life 1 runs on) engine, and has tight controls and excellent combat. The scares are really nice, and the jump scares are few and far between. It's very atmospheric, and even has a co-op function. It's also free. FREE.

It'll also even run on potato PC's. So pick this up. What do you have to lose, honestly?

CoF is scary and is an improvement from previous mod Afraid of Monsters with two of the developers being part of this team. There are many original enemies and it used the GoldSrc engine from HL1 in a good way with different mechanics and movement. Levels are original and you fight many bosses. There are also co-op and an alternate story mode with more endings, counting a total of 6 endings (4 from original single player and 2 from these other modes). 10/10

YESSSSSSS
This is the game that introduced me to the horror genre. I am TERRIBLE with guns in games (normally), but I made my way through this one fine. There were a few challenging places, but overall, I could handle it. I love the dark storyline and creativity of the various monsters. Being free makes it all the better! Definitly worth the download and time!

I’m a huge fan of Horror, and this was an awesome psychological horror game. It was also free so it was a win win. Good story, graphics are what you’d expect from an older game/ mod. Need more games like this!! Oh, and it’s best to play by yourself in the dark :p
