About This Content

[p]New adventures await your Sims on the sunny shores and beneath the glistening water of an island paradise! From exploring the tropical isles to creating a five-star resort experience, your Sims can decide to embark on an unforgettable journey or make themselves a new home in this new utopia. Nautical Sims can even take the helm of fully customizable houseboats and set sail between islands! If your Sims would rather be in the water than on it, they can snorkel and scuba dive their way through the ocean. Who knows, they might uncover sunken treasure or befriend a mermaid! With innovative features never before seen in The Sims PC franchise and a world of new possibilities on land and in sea, your Sims will reap the benefits of their own island paradise.

KEY FEATURES

  • Set sail for adventure. Be it by paddleboat or speedboat, your Sims can now leave port to discover new lands and explore like never before, from inter-island travel to discovering their own uncharted island. Landlubbers need not apply!
  • Build and run a five-star resort. Create a family-friendly resort of waterslides and buffet tables, a romantic retreat dotted with minimalist cottages, or a singles resort featuring multiple pool bars where Sims can mingle and flirt. Choose and fine-tune your amenities, set your prices, and wait for the reviews—and Simoleons—to pour in. The higher your star rating, the more popular your resort will be!
  • Life is a beach. See what surprises await under the sea as your Sims build their skills in snorkeling/scuba diving. Your Sims may find themselves on the shore of a new island or discover sunken or buried treasure.
  • Boat sweet boat. Whether your Sims love the water or are just prone to wanderlust, a houseboat may be the perfect abode. Houseboats are fully customizable and can be moored at any open port, so if your Sims tire of the view, relocate to a new locale!
  • New ways to build. New stilted foundations give your Sims the best of both worlds—a home that’s partially on the water and partially on land. Build a resort, create travelling houseboats, and customize your very own island paradise for your Sims!

I can't even open my sims game when I try and make the game not load it. When I first played it the game froze and then would jerk to what I had tried telling it to do. DO NOT GET THIS DLC.

About as optimized as The Slaughtering Grounds. It's a great expansion, but the map that you pretty much need for it to work is a broken, laggy mess. Fixes exist, but this is unacceptable.

I confess, to begin with, I was REALLY against buying this EP because of so many negative reviews. But curiosity got the better of me, I bought the EP, and I was surprised. Yes it does lag for me, yes it sometimes does stick for a few seconds, but honestly... I've barely had any other problems. It's not the kind of lag that would put me off from playing on Isla Paradiso. I can live with it, because the benefits outweigh the negatives for me. I LOVE this EP. The Mermaids are funny to play as, there's some real soap operas on land occuring (x is having affairs with y, and some of the results have been hilarious) and I love the setting. It comes with a lot of cool stuff, and scuba diving is well worth having a go at. All in all.. yes I'd recommend it, but keep in mind a) I run Sims with Nraas Overwatch, Master Controller and Errortrap with Story Progression mods at all times for peace of mind and stability and 2) I moved the Scott family on land (notorious for causing lag).

I was super excited for this DLC. Unfortunately, it was very laggy, even when I played Sunset Valley or another town. It made it pretty much impossible to play. I wish I would've picked up a different DLC instead of this one.

The Island Paradise World can lag/freeze but not as bad but if you can learn how to make your own diving and port lot to another World.. Then this game is okay :)

Its a great DLC but badly let down by serious lag. This can be almost eliminated by following some of the online help available e.g. evicting and rehominging the Scott family. Its a pity that it comes down to players to fix issues but on the whole Island Paradise is an excellent addition to the base game.

Even with a top of the line machine, this POS DLC causes unbelievable lag and caused me to PERMENETLY lose all faith in this franchise. Now that Sims 4 is out, EA will NEVER patch this.

Lots of negative reviews on this one and we were very wary of picking it up because of that, but we are glad that we decided to go ahead and get it anyway. This expansion pack adds a lot of new stuff to do in The Sims 3, from mermaids to a new land and lots of things to do. All of my family really enjoys the functionality additions in this expansion pack. The lag is noticeable, unfortunately, even on a new, fast machine. That part is real, but it is bearable in exchange for all of the new features.

We are glad that we bought this one.

I was hesitant to pick this up due to the negative rating and bad things I've heard about it's performance, but I haven't had a single issue with it so far.

Before purchasing I had read around to find if there were any fixes for the lag players were reporting. For anyone curious, what I found is a combination of NRAAS Master Controller, Overwatch, Error Trap, deleting the Scott family, and evicting + deleting all the houseboats right at the beginning. Doing all that has made Island Paradise into a smooth sailing expansion pack ;)

The resorts are a nice way of being able to make cash without having to send your sims off to work. Once you have a fully functional resort going you can pull in 5k per day without problems. That leaves plenty of time to explore the uncharted islands, scuba dive, or go to work as a lifeguard. It adds a decent number of new clothing options, a good amount of water vehicles, and expands the furniture, but I was a little disappointed that there weren't many traditional "island" themed construction options to choose from (like Hawaiian or Tiki styles).

The expansion's island town is nicely designed, though it is very clearly designed with the resorts in mind. You'll probably want to add a couple lots of your own (like consignment shop) to make other options available.

Overall I would recommend it to anyone looking for something a little different in their Sims game. I can see myself opening resorts in other towns, giving new life to familiar locations.

I recently upgraded my machine so decided to reinstall Sims3 to test whether Island Paradise will finally run....hey it's been a couple of years so I was tentatively hopeful....I should have known better. EA basically released an unfinished expansion. haven't ever tried to fix it, haven't once given the community an apology, they just took peoples money and then ignored the complaints that went flooding their way. Please don't waste your money even on discount because this expansion, however much I looked forward to playing it, is unplayable.

it's fun for like a month but then it kind of gets boring all you really get is scuba diving mermaids resorts and house boats/new transportation it starts fun with createing a house boat and making a resort but then it just drags with the same thing not like seasons where there would be new things to do each season in isla paradisio theres never anything big or fun for your sims happening exept for maybe a book sale or finding an uncharted island whitch brings me to another problem uncharted islands ARE SO FREACKIN HARD TO FIND! I have not found one and the mermaid kelp reward is too many lifetime rewards you will never get it so as fun as I thought it was when I first got it just kinda got boring now do I recomend yes it's not a waste of money it is fun but it just drags on but the thing is you can always come back to the aspects of it.

Do not buy this EP. It is so beyond broken that words cannot describe-- then again, what can we expect from EA?

Moving on to the actual review (And not a red hot poker in the eye of EA), this includes a world hastily thrown together with routing issues galore, guaranteed to freeze your game consistently. My world even lost all grass textures. Literally, I cannot lie. It lost all of the grass and sand textures in the world. Lowering the graphics settings do not help because of the sheer number of stuck sims that will occur with this world.

Buying it for the purpose of playing it in other worlds? Oh sure. If you're okay with paying for a sub-par stuff pack that won't fit in any where else, and a bunch of douchey clothes for men and extremely skimpy clothes for women.

I cannot express my discontent with this EP, let alone EA. But to put it in perspective-- this is the only review I've ever seen as worth writing. Take this as a warning-- go buy another EP, please. Don't waste your money.

Well, I decided not to heed the other negative reviews thinking, "Surely my powerful PC will be able to trounce any performance issues this expansion causes!"

    Turns out I was wrong.

Don't get this expansion. It causes a profoundly annoying hitch in framerate that is most noticable when you speed up time. It makes it look like they are in a stop-motion film and now when my sims are all asleep, night lasts for an agonizing amount of time.
It also causes the "Save and Exit" to last from just under 30 seconds to at least two minutes! No, I don't have anything better to do than to watch the saving process complete and to ensure my sims lives don't disappear into oblivion (like mine... GOD I love these games).

After playing around with this expansion, its features aren't terribly thrilling. Yes, you can run your own resort. Yes, you can make a houseboat. Yes, you can make sweet love to the mermaid sims. I found these features to not NEARLY compensate for what I pretty much consider to be the cause to a pretty devastating blow to the game's immersion.

Please don't get The Sims 3: Island Paradise.
