Choosing one of seven unique warrior classes, the player must battle head-to-head with other players in a bid to free their god from the clutches of The Devourer. Armed with a set of devastating abilities as well as powerful allies, each warrior must overcome the varied challenges of Forge where every kill is a sacrifice and every sacrifice brings them one step closer to freedom.

key Features

MMO meets FPS: Combat takes place in MMO PvP Arena Style battlegrounds using FPS mechanics and aiming to create a deep, visceral, team oriented experience.

Skills pay the bills: Winners are determined by skill, not character level. No more waiting for your friends to level up so you can play together! Forge evens the odds between new players and max level veterans. Leveling up gives players new attack variants, but it does not provide power increases like other RPGs.

Free to Slay: Forge is free with no “pay to win.” The currency, Ore, is only used to buy cosmetic upgrades, so players get full access to the meaty combat for free. Invite your friends to join in the battle!

Class based combat: Storm the battlefield as the Assassin, Pathfinder, Pyromancer, Shaman, Warden, Tinker or Ravager. Each plays a crucial role on the team, so choose wisely!

Character customization: Spend your hard earned Ore in the Forge store to customize your favorite characters with spectacular armor!

Deep Steam integration: Achievements, Stats, Skill Based Matchmaking, Steam Server Browser, Valve Anti-Cheat, VoIP and the Steam Overlay.

Ever expanding: While Forge has the accessibility and low time requirements of a first person shooter, it will also receive new content on a regular basis like most MMOs.

Short version:

A very well polished arena-based 3D fighting game with lots of variation due to the classes being unique and useful on their own, flawed however by a steep learning curve that not many will bother to attempt. If you are going to perservere, your partience is going to get rewarded. Or else, you're going down in no time.

Long version:

Forge is a fighting game that is highly reminiscent of games like World of Warcraft, for the pvp aspect and the skills you have, and also a MOBA due to the classes being unique and being very well thought out, so much that it's sadly common to never have wardens or proper tinkers. The amount of detail on each class is very noticeable and you'll enjoy experiment each one of them, eventually focusing on only one: I spent most of my gametime playing one class, and I still haven't mastered it completely and I always found new things to learn. Definitely, that alone is a great thing. In addition each arena is big and you're also able to wall jump away, a very well common tactic in a lot of fights to escape the enemy. Too bad the maps are too few.

If anything, the flaws comes out when you play the game itself, in particular the class setup: I hardly saw wardens around and most of the times it was pathfinders, pyromancers and assassins. Yes, no shaman either, or tinker or ravager: that alone makes each team so hard to variate and a lot of times if your team has no shaman, you can die if your enemy does.
In addition a lot of people complain that some classes are useless, like the warden, while I actually saw several owning the battlefield, since "I" was healing it and helping him: in a way, she was like the heavy from TF2, meaning that without support she dies, as well as the other classes, like a true team based game. And here's the problem: it's a team based game, and as such you'll have to rely on your team to win...and as we all know nowadays people pretend to be one-man army all of the sudden and skip other classes for the easiest one. As much as I can't blame them, at the same time it's also why the game is very shallow at times.

And let's not forget the big issue...a lot of people complain that this game is hard and so they quit it. Well, like I said in my short version the game has a learning curve, as you have 9 skills and most of them can be glyphed to make their effects work differently. You can't expect simple commands here and you'll need to practice the more you play, and is sad because that's what makes this game fun.

In addition the game is NOT Pay-To-Win and the only items you buy are armor and boosters for experience, and levels only makes you able to unlock glyphs and change the stats of your character (which don't make the class overpowered, but just fit your needs). And the game has a huge lack of players which is really sad, but the game has a solid community of players (and haters too), so I highly recommend to try this game.

I do not recommend if you don't like fighting games, arena-fighting games and in general don't want a team-based game.

This game had (has?) promise and the devs ran it into the ground, IMHO. The community/devs, for the most part, are zealous and toxic towards those that question how the game/community is run. The population has died off dramatically and for a game that's 99.99999% meant for online multiplayer (unless you like bots), this might be a death sentence. This game, in the beginning, was not F2P, but made the transition roughly a year later. "Compensation" was doled out to those that previously purchased it, but for a game lacking in content and with such a sparse community, this was not a smart move at all. Other means of financing the game could have been brainstormed instead of the F2P debacle that this game has become. There have been far worse F2P schemes for sure, but this game could have been so much more and the devs shot themselves in the foot. It's too late now - it's not like they can change the name of the game and make it a paid game again lol. They would have been better off, if they wanted to make it F2P, making players pay for more substantial expansions and utilizing in/out of game advertising to fund the game, but apparently whoring games out with cosmetics and boosters just as they reach their stride is in vogue these days. There was/is literally purely cosmetic armor sets for over $40... I don't think I paid that for the game initially lol.

Good:
-Combat/Classes are pretty good
-Graphics are ok
-Nice change of pace for lovers of PVP

Bad:
-Community/Devs
-Cash Shop Foolishness
-Dying Population
-No Offline/ Singleplayer Modes
-Transition from Paid to F2P left me, personally, feeling sour.

Score: 3/10

UPDATE - 6/30/14 - Game/Devs still suck (well, mostly the Devs), but it would seem a decent amount play it now according to Steam Charts. I wholeheartedly do NOT recommend this and would suggest looking into Nosgoth for a great pvp experience with a darker feel to it. Nosgoth has better balance, not perfect, but better, and already shows more promise in its beta state. Nosgoth understands how to market itself, the Psyonix team knows what its doing, and you can actually voice your opinion or report abuse without being mocked and banned.

I love Forge, yes the current state of the game is really messed up, but dont let that deter you from picking this game up, its developers are more than friendly and are trying to make this game a great thing, with the new addition of teams and guilds will hope to make this games playerbase new and veterans flock back to this game, which I personally hope works, and I know I will be there!

It's actually a pretty good game. I don't understand why it isn't more popular than it is. If you're even considering playing this, just do it. It's free and you have nothing to lose. The graphics are good. I haven't experienced any bugs. The only thing that sucks is the community is small. Which is a shame. Try it out and have some fun.
